    After I changed the impeller, I started this motor for the first time in 6 months. If you would like to see how it goes, it is included in this video: th-cam.com/video/A9kzfzt4C5o/w-d-xo.html

    Looks same as in Suzuki DT2/2.2. Super easy to change. Just rotate it clockwise while pushing it into place until it clicks into pin.

    When I started messing with boats.. I spent £120 for someone to change a impeller on a outboard.. So videos like this are very handy too new boater to show that some jobs on outboard are easily done at home.

      @@WayneTheBoatGuy they have an impeller but its not a rubber 1.. its like a porcelain square which doesn’t touch the sides.

    Thanks for the video. I changed one once a few years ago, but I needed a refresher. Yours was the first useful one which popped up. I find that they tend to dry out and go brittle with lack of use, rather than wearing out. I've had that problem with a Yamaha 70 as well.

    Can you store this motor lying down or is it best to stand upright?

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy
      @WayneTheBoatGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I try to keep my motors upright, but many can be stored on their side.

      Apparently the fins will usually reset themselves if you have them in the wrong way.

    Great video...THANKS! Do these small 2.5HP Mercury outboards (I have one just like the one you are changing impeller on) need oil change for lower unit? Any tips/advice on on how to do that? Thanks again!

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy
      @WayneTheBoatGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the oil in the lower unit should be done annually. I don’t have a video on that… yet but soon!

      That's what I'm wondering myself, any luck?

    • @steinhytland2593
      @steinhytland2593 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the motor has a shifter and a neutral, the pump sits above the gear housing. This needs to come off. Lining the shifter link back up is very tricky.

      @jonathanjadotte ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steinhytland2593 u can say that again! did mine about a month ago. I used a tiny stick to hold it in place as I used my ratchet in my other hand to tighten 🤣

  • @steinhytland2593

    It should be emphazised that this prosedure only applies to non gear models. Impeller on the propeller shaft only pumps and cools with propeller turning.
    Many of the Mercury/Mariner 2.5 and 3.3 engines has a shifter and a neutral. The procedure is very different and more complicated. Different impeller to. I won't try to describe it here, but issue one warning. Don't start by undoing the shaft housing like Wayne does. Look up the proper procedure.

    I am currently on my 3rd or 4th impeller replacement on my 2cyle 8HP Mariner while also replacing the seals in the lower unit, so I also have the prop shaft out and apart. However, bc I ordered the impeller from JINGZU on AMAZON, my project is stalled. As the case with typical Chinese knock off parts, while the impeller from them looks like an exact replacement, the inside diameter tolerance of the replacment impeller is too tight and won't properly slide on the 1/2" drive shaft. On the plus side, no issue getting a return label from AMAZON and prompt $4.25 full refund from JINGZU. Then went to EBAY to order a genuine Mercury/Quicksilver impeller. (The JINZU had the same exact part # as the Quicksilver).
    -I doubt they make cotter pins out of aluminum as it likely breaks easier bending it back and forth, unlike SS
    -That was not a screw driver you used w/the 10mm socket; that is called a Driver Spinner

    Need an inexpensive impeller that's nearly impossible to find? FInd someone with a 3d printer.. 4+ different materials can be used. Been 'tuning' trolling motor props for 1) more mileage 2) more speed 3) both. so far? I've got more work to do but gained 1MPH and lost 10 minutes with 115AH APG Battery so.. think I'm onto something good.

    Nobody on this or any site has half an ounce with common sense to put a mirror in there, 2H. P water impeller change cause every time. I type that up I get a 2.5 or a taihatsu. Nothing explaining how to slide the lower unit off which is stuck. I wish somebody would have enough brains to do that. Post a mariner two h p a two stroke.There's plenty of them out there
