More emotion? Going to have to disagree. Gaga has more control and technique, she is also a better dancer and her shows tend to be . . . performance wise? More pulled together since she has left gimmicks behind? ( Katy's props get in the way sometimes ) but Katy has way more colors to her voice and many more textures . She can weave in falsetto, rasp, darker tones and then have her voice quirkily lift at the end for small sparks of tones you either love or hate. Gaga's voice is simple and strong. Just power belt and strong lower register that still has force to it. So they blend really well but don't leave a lot of room for . . . versatility in terms of color or texture but keep her good across the board for genre options. Katy makes more complex and thought out vocal formations and transitions, builds. She just doesn't always 100% nail it and chooses things that can leave her voice in odd areas for more opportune errors.

Especially touching is her care, admiration and awe of the body of music from "The Great American Songbook." It comes out in her singing. It's as if she reminds us how great these songs are while knocking the socks off a whole new generation having never heard or explored this great music.
You all would be very surprised if we could get rid of autotune on live apearance .Gaga is one of very few artist (singer) that can sing whitout it. Studio version should always be better then live but not for Gaga. Its been more then 30 years that they use it, its common these days.

Katy’s song, “By the Grace of God” always gave me chills. She wrote it about the time when her & Russell Brand were divorcing. She would just lay on the bathroom floor, unable to get up wishing she were dead. I wasn’t going through that but my life was falling to pieces all around me back then. Around the time that song came out I thought I would lose everything & everyone that meant anything to me & I’d lost the will to live. Like Katy says in the song though, “I put one foot in front of the other & I looked in the mirror, and decided to stay.” Stay breathing. Stay alive. In those darkest moments we can’t give up & give in. Gorgeous song. 💚✌🏼💚

I've watched a few of this teacher's videos and really disagreed with some of what she has said. The idea that Katy Perry is even comparable to Lady Gaga, though, makes me really question her judgement. Lady Gaga is both a performer and an amazing vocalist. Katy Perry is really just a performer.

Katy actually sang really well live. I saw her years ago in Houston, Texas on her “candy covered” California Dreams Tour. *Front Row!* Her, the stage, her dancers all lovely. They pumped this mild, cotton candy scent into the stadium that was awesome! The only downside were the drunk ladies in cupcake bras hitting on me. Like lady, I’m a grown man, front row at a Katy Perry concert with my female bff all chill while I’m the one jumping up & down screaming & singing all the words. *What* pray tell, gives you the idea that I’m into girls? Dude, you can literally pinpoint Katy's voice from the background vocals on the track. Straining and singing with a lowered larynx in a " Yawn " tone ( You can get that sound by manipulating your throat with a yawn and singing through it actually for that round hollow sound. ) Compared to Katy serving a VERY resonant, supported, level larynxed series of upbeat and fast tempo'd lyrics? Yeah they were blunt and choppy, because that's the song but she applied technique there. Technique doesn't always sound BETTER and not every performance is cleaner than the last.

But Katy never tried to be a power belter outside of when a song called for it. Gaga wants to be a vocalist, Katy just wants to perform. It's like comparing Beyonce to Lana Del Rey. Obviously Beyonce is better on technical skill, but Lana has a lot more color - texture and emotion options. Plus she has a vision artistically Beyonce doesn't.

I agree. Lady Gaga's voice seem forced. Most of the time it sounded too harsh, but she has more control. Whereas, Katy's were just more relaxed, but a little too 'comfortable'.
I like both of these singers. Lady Gaga can sing so many different styles. Katy has a really good voice. I think Katy has got a lil better in the past 5 yrs

I feel like Katy Perry is barely even singing and resting on her backup recorded vocals a lot. She also runs around the stage and dances and does a lot of movement during her shows- I put her in the same sort of category as Britney Spears- she can absolutely sing, but I'm not sure if live vocals are her strongest area. Gaga for me was the stronger singer in all five clips...but I still like Katy's music better. XD

But Katy doesn’t use backing tacks and even on these clips you can hear the difference between her voice and the background singers who do Katy’s Harmonies. Katy isn’t mediocre but she isn’t grate. I mean Katy has plenty of ballads. In the beginning they definitely did NOT pick appropriate songs to do a comparison. Her " iHeartRadio " performances in 2013 would've been a good one to select from. Would she have won? Not sure, depends on the clip.
Is Gaga bettter? Technically yes. But Katy never tried to be a power belter outside of when a song called for it. Gaga wants to be a vocalist, Katy just wants to perform.
