Hello everyone, random question : what would you have liked to see offered by a car rental ? besides car seats... are there stuff that you think car rental companies can offer that would make your vacation easier or more interesting ? ( gadgets, services ... ?
Great question. I'll pin it to the top so you get lots of ideas. I'd like to see car seats and GPS as standard, now. GPS is usually in most car rentals so I never pay for it anyway, but it would be nice to not be over-sold. I'd also love the option of the car being dropped off to you at the airport pick-up area, so you don't have to leave the rest of the family...or drag them to the rental desk with you. Hi mate. Love the vid. A little stumped however when it comes to the excess, zero excess damage protection, LDW/SLI and the security deposit stuff. Everything is propery jumbled around on every website 😭😭🤣
Ha ha. Me too!! 🤣😂 I’m going to get my head around it all and make a video for you. It will be released on 9 May. Basically, most rentals sold in the UK have LDW, which is essential. Liability Insurance is often added and needed for Third Party liability. SLI isn’t essential but good to have if free. That’s what they’ll try to sell at the counter. Hopefully, my video will make you feel better about it all. Let me know if you have to book before the video comes out and I’ll try to help. 😎👍

Thanks for your video! Im planning on traveling to america next August and want to rent a car (Ill be 22 at the time). Would you recommend booking the car (with no insurance) and then use moneymaxim to get CDW, Liability and Excess insurance seperatley? This looks as though it works out cheaper for me than getting a pre built 'package' of comparrison sites.Thanks
Hi Joe, glad you liked the video. Yeah, I’d go with whatever comes out cheaper. Some years it’s the USA rental (and you have to get the extra insurance) but other times it’s the comparison companies. You might even find it changes as the year goes on. If you it says you have free cancellation, you can always book one and swap if the other comes out cheaper. If you’re a Brit, and they come out the same, I’d go for the UK comparison site as they usually have good extras. Have a great time - it sounds like it’ll be an awesome trip!! 😎👍

Yeah, they just want to sell you theirs - even at the counter! They're used to people having their own insurance - lots of Americans get it as part of their credit card/car insurance deals.
@@LifeOfReillyTV Interesting. Is it safer to just book with the rental car company directly? Websites like kayak/expedia take you to car rental websites ive never heard of and have awful reviews. But then the question is how much contact do you need to have with the third party anyway?
I find it's usually cheaper to book through the rental car company directly but sometimes the Kayaks etc are given special deals. You're right, after you've booked you're almost alone anyway. They ALWAYS still try to up-sell insurance etc at the counter, however I've booked!!
