I genuinely appreciate Rob and what he puts forth in videos. Some are strictly entertainment albeit not the recycled trending 5 things I hate and love the TH-camrs pass around every few months which is a good thing. Rob actually makes good sensible content. Then he always has valuable pearls of wisdom. If you don't hear it enough you're a great guy and I hope you continue to inspire us to be happy while remaining vigilant. Best regards
I don't subscribe to this channel because I care about the exotic car rentals, or because it's particularly action packed. I subscribe because it's a truly interesting thing to watch a reasonable, honest person making sense of life and business. There's not many people left who can teach you something about life, but when Rob talks you can tell it's meaningful and coming from a real place. Something about that makes me want to keep watching despite not being very invested in the topic.
Andrew Willis only real recognize real. everyone that wants to get somewhere should listen to this man and people like him, he's been around I can tell.
+superspeedersRob , what if you tried to do this business with cars that people flip for more money. Like a fleet of GT2 rs , GT3 RS, 458 speciale, 918,P1, Zonda ,Enzo, Aventador Jota SV, Aventador SV etc. So your fleet does not depreciate much and you monitor the miles of fleet and sell the flip car before miles get to high. Only negative is you need alot of capital for a fleet like that.
Whisper Cars there’s so many things wrong about this idea lol. You don’t want to put miles on collector cars. Also no one in there right mind wants to insure these types of cars like a fucking enzo.
So what your saying Rob is,you got into the market at the right time with the right people and now your a very succesful person and are the point now where you started from a long time ago!!!
hands down the best advertisement for your company is these videos. When i was in miami i called you guys first because i know who the boss is and he seems like a reasonable guy and the place isn't sketchy. was half expecting the phone to be picked up with "rob freddy here" like you start all your videos.
Rob, No Bull shit... when you spoke about asking a specific articulate question about a business aspect... I screamed YES! I have had so many people come to me about starting a business similar to my mobile BBQ business... Oh My DAMN... This hits the nail RIGHT on the head.
I'm thinking about starting a exotic car rental company but I'm just going to get some Pontiac Fiero's with body kits. No one will notice. Insurance will be cheaper also.
I booked a ZO6 with Gotham and a day before my trip they informed me the vette was in vegas. However, they made up for it and let me drive the F430 instead at the same rate. My dream car as a little kid...I'll never forget those two days. Classy move on their part. I'll be back for the ZO6 this year !
One of your better videos Rob. Anyone who thinks starting and running an exotic rental car company just means buying a few cars and putting a "for rent" sign in the window doesn't need to get into the business at all. I recall a few years ago participating in a traveling exotic car racing event where you got to drive various exotic cars around a race track. It was a lot of fun, but expensive. The owner of the business was there mentioning how much it cost him to run those cars, and excluding the crown jewel of his fleet at the time which was a Ferrari 458 Italia, he said it cost him around $90 a MILE to run those cars hard on race tracks.
Or maybe he was exaggerating or perhaps I misheard him. It was like 4 years ago, but the $90 figure does stick out in my mind. I thought maybe he was including unrealized costs like depreciation, but you would know better than I what those numbers should really be.
When I got out of college (20+ years ago) I landed a management job at Enterprise and worked there for several years. The rental car business is crazy and it takes a lot of effort. You really can't predict it
My friends do fairly well with Limousine services in Atlanta and Charlotte, NC. Having an exclusive list of very regular customers is extremely helpful. Having professional and dependable employees is a must. Wouldn't do Exotic Car rentals in those markets though.
Thanks Rob, this kind of advice is critical in this tough market. I owned a private exotic/luxury car detailing service for over a decade. Three years ago, I moved back to Florida to find an EXTREMELY saturated market. There's a flood of cheap shops that do a cheap job for $50, there are cheap indy detailers who do a better job for $100, and there's just not much room left for those of us who do a high end job and charge $200-400 for the job. I'm sure I could hunt around hard and find a few clients to grow the business back up, but convincing people that a $300 detailing is three times better than a crappy $100 job is more work than I'm willing to put into it these days. It does make me miss playing around with Ferraris and Porsches though. Either way, thanks Rob, good advice.
I live in south Florida and have considered using Turo to just manage a single car for rental. It interests me because the marketing, insurance, risk mitigation, customer flow...all taken care of. I see it as a safe way to dabble
I've had a idea about a car rental business, not exotic, but a slightly different take on the business from what the "normal" hire companies provide close to me. Thanks for this Rob it was useful.
This was an awesome video, it wasnt fancy but it reached Rob's goal to make you think long and hard on the realitys of owning any business. The extoic cars as a product is interchangeable. The real jem was the part about solving a problem or filling a void or to create something. What some people go to seminars and buy books ,Rob just gave to you for free. I feel like i just sat down with a mentor if i was interrested in a possible market, the investor pool, everything. I want to be an my own boss as well as an investor, so even though i am at the start i will get there.
Nice case study, Rob. You might also note the struggles of other US auto-related businesses (Failure of GM & Chrysler, decline of the large auto rental agencies, etc.). The lifespan of cars has been increasing over the past decades, so it seems opening a quality garage is probably not a bad place to consider for those who want to enter the auto business; but there is plenty of competition there and low barriers to entry so will not be a walk in the park...
Agreed. We have a few regular local guys who love exotics. There is no space for another exotic dealer or exotic rental company. So they focused on exotic wheels, tyres, suspensions. That niche has worked out pretty well and they cornered a nice market.
superspeedersRob I'm starting a business while working for my partner's company and we're at the work all the time to make peanuts. And when you said that you tell friends you have a business and they'll use you was spot on. ya they will come to you, but when. sure the heck they alone won't support you.
I have an idea for a small wireless box worn on the belt that makes a "beeping" noise when someone is trying to get in touch with you..than you can find a coin operated phone to call the person and see what they want. maybe there could be a display screen where a typed message could appear.. but that's in the future if it catches on.. what do you think?
Wow, great advice Rob. Question, what do you think of the Atlanta market, the hip hop scene is here, black Hollywood, and a lot award shows big games. Do u think it would be a idea market ?
I rented a M6 off Turo (first time using it) about 3 months ago. The rear tires were bald. Driving the car to port for a Bahamas cruise. Tire gave out on the turnpike, we were already 2hours away from the owner... nobody stocked a 20" wheel, had to pay for tow truck and another rental car and I footed the bill (eventually Turo reimbursed me). Made it to the boat 15 minutes before they closed the door.... Long story short, Turo is not competition to exotic rentals. (Nor is a M6 an "exotic.)"
Rob, how do you feel about services such as Turo which allows consumers a similar service at a reduced cost since a single owner doesn't incur expenses such as overhead, salaries, building, benefits, etc? Are you at all threatened that they may take away some business from your company or do you feel that the customers that go to Gotham would not generally cross shop on Turo?
Rob, at 3:11 you mention "reverse google search", as well as in your documentary you mention this. I've been trying to figure out what this is all about but everything I find leads to reverse image searches so I'm coming up short. "I've done this, this this, and this, and I have a question about this specific thing." I'm hoping you see this and can point me in the right direction. TIA.
I was thinking of opening up a luxury rental car business in Weehawken but I like you Mr. Spaghetti and I don't want to put him out of business so I decided not to. I will rent a car from you in the near future.
When it comes to renting cars, normal or exotic, the true cost has been found. Whoever's in the market is providing the lowest cost possible. It's hard to keep costs low when you're essentially driving something that could be worth as much as a house. Like you said, all the companies coming in to under cut the competition always fail.
Can a used car dealership profit from renting cars off by having 2-4 exotics under a rental company but at the same time having them up for sale? Also I'm not talking about very expensive exotics, more so entry level Maseratis that depreciate a tremendous amount of value after 2-4 years of use and make it a lot more affordable for customers to purchase. I know renting them off will rack up miles but my intentions are also to cut costs when it comes to repairs as well since the dealership has a service area and we receive discounted parts from new dealerships as well.
That applies to pretty much every business. Do not expect to make big bucks in the first THREE years. I have restaurants and I absolutely hate when someone says: "yeah, Imma open a cafe and stay home putting money in the stock market"
how do you do a reverse google search because if i type in that to my location nothing pops up? is there suppose to be a number of people who searched this.
the only way i would ever open a exotic car rental company here is if i also opened up a bunch of other companies. turned them into multinational corporations. so i could bring an income into the city. then i could have to create my own huge entertainment district. then i would have to open up some 5 and 4 star hotels. Then maybe i might be able to open up an exotic car rental company. I know you just said that basically but yeah.
Hey rob, this question kinda goes along with this but i think it could also be geared towards personal purchases but what brands of super cars in your experience are most cost effective to finance with depreciation also figured in?
The market doesn't pay well enough to make it worth it, sort of like who is more desperate to get their car out. After Turo takes their cut its very unlikely that its worth it from a owners perspective.
i own a exclusive car rental business in The Netherlands and all the things he said are 100% true. Ofcourse same things are diffent here in The Netherlands but i can relate.
Rob you ever want to plan a trip to Alaska? during the summer we have very long distant smooth roads people never drive on... Just saying, its a place to have fun ;)
Rob, I bought a DB9 a couple years ago to start rental business in Chicago. I gave up on it now due to not having money to quit my job and not having time to run the business. How do you find investors?
Hey Rob, do you consider factors like reliability when choosing the cars? Maybe increasing their price over more reliable cars? Other ways to offset increased costs? (Example: MP4-12C)
You have to if you are concerned about utilization which is very important. However you can't price a car higher because its less reliable. Cars like that just wouldn't be kept in rental fleets, (especially out of warranty).
Hey Rob these videos a fucking interesting, you should make more videos like this. I'm wondering how social media such as TH-cam, have an impact on your business whether it's positive or negative. Good shit bro keep it up
Why don't you franchise? Wanna open a location in San Diego? The big question is: how do you survive the recessions when *nobody* is renting exotic cars? Example: '08-'11 were bleak years. What did you do?
So basically find a place where rich guys travel to but don't live so they have the money to spend but don't already live there? Rob can I ask how long your car rentals last? should I be looking at busy cities where wealthy people are there for a few days on business? Or should I look for more expensive vacation spots where they spend more than a week? Also I would think as a business you would want a lot of reliable cars like porsche right? but are those rented as often as a Ferrari is? or would I be wasting money getting a fleet of porsches?
step (1) Say ''Hey Rob send me some cars to rent out'' step (2) Rent cars out step (3) Send most of the money to Rob step (4) Keep a little but enjoy the cars.
Nice video but vague concepts. What gives utility are numbers ... costs, investment, ranges, entry ... (a) if starting "ABC Co" in 2017, what capital (range) would be desirable, (b) broadly, what monthly outlays can be expected, (c) what unique costs that might occur that would damage the whole concept, (d) if Co reaches 2 years, what would the numbers of a business look like that is treading water, to a Co that is succeeding (or, even, killing it), (e) what could be a viable exit strategy in 2-5 years and what could be a potential valuation of a business that is reaching parity with other like businesses within that time frame
Too specific, there is more than one way to skin a cat. You can start small and scale or you can come into a market heavy. Nubmers will vary by market, overhead, labor costs, insurance costs, etc. Only constants are depreciation and maintenance per mile (on average of course).
I have a Question, I'm from NY im really motivated from your videos, where to get the car insurance from ? I have my own personal insurance from GEICO !. Will appreciate your feedback my friend, Thank-you
I genuinely appreciate Rob and what he puts forth in videos. How to start an exotic rental company:
Step 1: Don't do it.
?????
title of the video should be Why you shouldn't start an exotic rental company.
I don't subscribe to this channel because I care about the exotic car rentals, or because it's particularly action packed. I subscribe because it's a truly interesting thing to watch a reasonable, honest person making sense of life and business. Jeffrey's Daddy HAHAHAHAHA Sexual pleasure, you fucked me up on that one.
Jeffrey's Daddy hahahaha
Rob this is the best "how to do what I do" video I've ever seen. On point man, realistic and solid advice.
Today Rob Spaghetti attempts to create his own competition, as making money has become too easy for him.
LOL!
+superspeedersRob , what if you tried to do this business with cars that people flip for more money. Rob can you direct me to someone who can teach me how to start a lemonade stand?

Not everybody gets the video at same time. You got it seven minuets ago but some got it maybe 30 minutes ago.
Rob, No Bull shit... when you spoke about asking a specific articulate question about a business aspect... I screamed YES! I have had so many people come to me about starting a business similar to my mobile BBQ business... Oh My DAMN... This hits the nail RIGHT on the head.
So Rob, what you're saying is I should really start a company buying and flipping supercars from bankrupt exotic car rental companies?
Rob Spaghetti is The Godfather of car youtubers
I'm thinking about starting a exotic car rental company but I'm just going to get some Pontiac Fiero's with body kits. No one will notice. Insurance will be cheaper also.
company in Canada did that once. I'd bet they are no longer in business.
Cut out all these steps. Just open a Lemonade stand, you will open your rental company in no time, 0% chance of failure.
Very wise words being said here. Stuff like this is what places your channel #1 on my list Rob. Keep on keeping on, and thank you for your efforts.
If it cost him $90/ mile he was going out of business fast or was completely misinformed.
Or maybe he was exaggerating or perhaps I misheard him. It was like 4 years ago, but the $90 figure does stick out in my mind. I thought maybe he was including unrealized costs like depreciation, but you would know better than I what those numbers should really be.
did you say you paid 50k a year on insurance? at those rates wouldn't it make sense to just take the risk and not have insurance?
You knocked me off my feet!”,Your efforts are greatly appreciated.😊
Thank you for your honesty for letting me know starting this up this business is very hard and it has a 95% I'm not succeeding greatly appreciated
I bet you wanted to start an exotic dancing company but didnt have the body for it.
Nor the rhythm
Well rhythm is a dancer.
When I got out of college (20+ years ago) I landed a management job at Enterprise and worked there for several years. The rental car business is crazy and it takes a lot of effort. You really can't predict it
Vomit on his sweater already, Rob's spaghetti
Due your due diligence, check their balance sheet, and invest in a successful exotic car rental company, or any other type of company.
My friends do fairly well with Limousine services in Atlanta and Charlotte, NC. Having an exclusive list of very regular customers is extremely helpful. Having professional and dependable employees is a must. Wouldn't do Exotic Car rentals in those markets though.
it's definitely not to much trouble for jr garage

Either way, thanks Rob, good advice.
it seams like that list can be applied to ANY car related business
I live in south Florida and have considered using Turo to just manage a single car for rental. It interests me because the marketing, insurance, risk mitigation, customer flow...all taken care of. I see it as a safe way to dabble
Rob you're a smart guy, props for the hard work you put in for your successful company.
I've had a idea about a car rental business, not exotic, but a slightly different take on the business from what the "normal" hire companies provide close to me. Thanks for this Rob it was useful.
You really have to love your job 24/7 and deal with all the happy customers.
Now I can make my own super speeder videos. Thanks for the life hacks Mr spaghetti
+kid stang2 thanks.
Different video.
Agreed. We have a few regular local guys who love exotics. There is no space for another exotic dealer or exotic rental company. So they focused on exotic wheels, tyres, suspensions. That niche has worked out pretty well and they cornered a nice market.
Overall that is sound business advice in general.
Thanks, for being a woman and watching my channel! (and supporting my advice) #the2%
superspeedersRob I'm starting a business while working for my partner's company and we're at the work all the time to make peanuts. Rob Spaghetti draws a brain and hates robo calls in today's episode
Every time I click on a video I'm hoping for "What's up everybody, Rob SPAGHETTI here...."
Robbo you are 1 in 9. welldone mate 🖒
Really good advices Mr. Rob! Thank you and keep up the good work!
Greetings from sweden!!
Wow, great advice Rob. Question, what do you think of the Atlanta market, the hip hop scene is here, black Hollywood, and a lot award shows big games. Do u think it would be a idea market ?
Watch Ed Bolians videos. He did that for years. The thing is apparently ATL is seasonal..
do you think turo is going to hurt the exotic rental business in the long term?
I don't believe so.
Ale p what's turo?
I rented a M6 off Turo (first time using it) about 3 months ago. The rear tires were bald. Driving the car to port for a Bahamas cruise.
Tire gave out on the turnpike, we were already 2hours away from the owner... nobody stocked a 20" wheel, had to pay for tow truck and another rental car and I footed the bill (eventually Turo reimbursed me). Made it to the boat 15 minutes before they closed the door....
Long story short, Turo is not competition to exotic rentals. (Nor is a M6 an "exotic.)"
Rob!! THANK YOU!!!!! Been waiting for this video for YEARS!!!! Now I definitely will NOT be starting my car rental business.
I don't see it as competing, turo also doesn't cover cars over $75 or $100k through their insurance.
Rob, at 3:11 you mention "reverse google search", as well as in your documentary you mention this.
I was considering starting a clunker car rental service. I was planning on buying the $600 craigslist special cars and renting them out dirt cheap.
Rob whats going to happen now that Turo is able to offer insurance with personal car rental?
wow Rob,i googled exotic cars where i live and i came up with four places!!!!
What do you think about companies like Turo te going to affect car rental businesses and exotic car rentals.

Then maybe i might be able to open up an exotic car rental company. I know you just said that basically but yeah.
Do you have to pay cash for your cars starting up? What's your 2 cents on leasing vs buying?
Rob. How much do you think is Turo is affecting your business?
Hey rob, this question kinda goes along with this but i think it could also be geared towards personal purchases but what brands of super cars in your experience are most cost effective to finance with depreciation also figured in?
What are your opinions on turo for their exotic car rentals? Do you think that their strategy or marketing is working well?
The market doesn't pay well enough to make it worth it, sort of like who is more desperate to get their car out. After Turo takes their cut its very unlikely that its worth it from a owners perspective.
Awesome vid for anyone starting any kind of business.
Thank you Rob for part 15:00, I will stay at the bank and focus on that promotion.
Hey Rob, can you show some examples of the shadier car companies like you did with that one in Vegas?!
Not worth throwing shade, I didn't even name the Vegas company anywhere or anytime.
Yah, I was actually thinking that. Best not to make enemies. Thanks for the response!

Rob, I bought a DB9 a couple years ago to start rental business in Chicago. I gave up on it now due to not having money to quit my job and not having time to run the business. How do you find investors?
Rob, you have so many great cars... start driving! Do a vid driving to Jones Beach with your squad or driving to DC.
What if I get a satellite location at a 5 star hotel in 5th Avenue? And store the cars in another place . Maybe keep one car outside the hotel
I wouldn't think the ROI is that great. This video pretty much confirmed that.
Good shit bro keep it up
Can someone explain to me what cars are his an what cars are the company's? Thanks
Rob, are you able to write-off stuff like the BMW giveaway and the miata as marketing/business expenses?
Why don't you franchise? Wanna open a location in San Diego? The big question is: how do you survive the recessions when *nobody* is renting exotic cars? Example: '08-'11 were bleak years. What did you do?
Try Hiya on your phone, it does a good job filtering robo-calls. Not affiliated with them.
I live in Vegas, about how much would my initial start up cost be? further more, is Vegas already saturated?
Thanks for doing this video. I'm your target audience with this. My plan has part 1 = win lotto, so I won't have any risk of failure...
So basically find a place where rich guys travel to but don't live so they have the money to spend but don't already live there? Rob can I ask how long your car rentals last? should I be looking at busy cities where wealthy people are there for a few days on business? Or should I look for more expensive vacation spots where they spend more than a week? Also I would think as a business you would want a lot of reliable cars like porsche right? but are those rented as often as a Ferrari is? or would I be wasting money getting a fleet of porsches?
step (1) Say ''Hey Rob send me some cars to rent out''
step (2) Rent cars out
step (3) Send most of the money to Rob
step (4) Keep a little but enjoy the cars.
Hi im interested in starting a company in Atlanta.
Was wondering what would be a good car or cars to start with?
You may have answered this before, and I'm only 3 minutes, but I wanted to ask. Have you ever had a rental outlet fail? What's the recourse on that?
cubvette8409 shut it down before you lose too much money.
We've had markets that we shut down, like Scottsdale.
Nice video. This should really help like you said all those people which say how can I do what you do. Also new outro is interesting
What is the name of the license you have to have if you are renting cars to people
Just curious, what's a reasonable amount of capital to start an exotic car rental business assuming everything else meets the criteria?
I have a Question, I'm from NY im really motivated from your videos, where to get the car insurance from ? I have my own personal insurance from GEICO !. Will appreciate your feedback my friend, Thank-you
Why did you post a personal video for JR garage? Was this accidentally uploaded?
Hertz got it right with their dream car line up; BMW M5, C63, Porsche 911, G550 ect. Much easier to manage and acquire cars like that then exotics.
you forgot the step with the lemonade stand
