    I recently did the 3.91 in my 2011 2SS. I really couldn't afford to let someone else do it, plus I've done a few rear end gear changes in my time. Mainly in 4x4's. It actually wasn't bad at all. As long as your set your pinion depth correctly and check clearances according to what is etched into the gear itself from the manufacturer. Should be no issues. Mine has been great so far. 3500 miles on it now. It really changes the cars feel and its response.

      Oh yeah man I did some pulls with it and it changes everything. I’ve got a small leak so I need to get that fixed but everything’s been running pretty decent

      @@thenextgear2012 Thats nice bro. What brand did you do with? I went ahead and got the motive gear from Summit. I had heard stories about people complaining about excessive gear whine from the Motive. And obviously knowing enough about it, I figured they weren't installed correctly if that much whine is present. I actually did all of my install with harbor freight micrometers and clamp on dial indicators and other tools needed. As I cannot afford to go with more expensive tools for this. Anyways, it turned out perfect. No gear whine whatsoever. I used the redline gear oil with the Redline break in additive for the first 500 miles. Ever since, no issues and I am glad I did the gear swap. Makes a huge difference down low. Gets the car up to its sweet spot in the powerband much quicker and really not that much difference in mpg. Cheers bro.

      Appreciate it man. And I got it from tick performance. The GM Performance gears. I haven’t had any gear whine except for the first drive. Then after that I’ve had no issues other than my leak. But everything’s been great! I used the old shims and just put in the new parts that came with the kit. Put everything in back the way it was and haven’t had issues yet but I would’ve definitely rather to have measured everything out before throwing it back in

    The gears (pinion and ring) need to be shimmed in, you can’t bolt it together, your just wrecking a new gear set.

    Let me ask you this HaVE u broke any axels ? I did the same set up 3.91 with tru trac posi and I’m breaking axels I’m also cammed

    • @thenextgear2012
      @thenextgear2012  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope! Haven’t broken any yet and I’ve been launching and stuff. No problems and I switched the ring and pinion a year and a half ago so I think it’s holding together nicely right now

    Do you think your car can out run a 750hp Cummins 5 speed ? Bc I’m getting a 13 5.0 or 13 2ss he thinks he’ll beat me

    • @thenextgear2012
      @thenextgear2012  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ehhh honestly man I’m not sure. Diesels are really fast other than their weight but the 5th gen camaros are real heavy too and the stock gears don’t help the fact that the car is heavy so I’d say as my car is sitting right now. No. But maybe once my break in period with the gears is done and I feel it out and see how the car is running. Maybe. But I’ve never raced a Cummins with that much power before so I wouldn’t know tbh

      I have a deleted and tuned Cummins as well as a Camaro SS. Not 750hp but not stock nonetheless. My Camaro is modified as well with new LS3 engine, stage 2 cam, RHS Pro Cylinder heads, longtube headers, REV9 axle back with high flow cats, 3.91 gear, 104mm throttle body, CAI, Tuned and a few other things. The Cummins is freakishly quick for a big truck, but after second gear my Camaro will fly by it. Big difference in weight and gearing.
