Kudos to your son for his photography. He gets right down to the needle in the fabric for his picture so we can see everything you are doing. I put my computer to full screen so I can see everything in detail. Lovely pattern and thanks for sharing.
I'm a newbie and I do not have a machine that quilts the entire piece. Is this normal to make hundreds of cuts to have a truly beautiful design? I'm worried that after cutting for hours, I won't be able to finish the final finish of quilting that your machine does for you. Now that said, the design is lovely and your tutorial is very informative. I just remember the days that my Momma spent with a quilt hanging from the ceiling and her stitches so straight and tight. I truly want to do a quilt if only in honor of my Mom.❤
@@lindaford3976 YOU can do it but it takes practice. I do the stitch in the ditch but you can also get a longarm sewer to quilt it for you, it's about $200 for a queen. I use the longarm services at Sew Yeah, you can find them online and on youtube).
When you were deciding on what color to quilt with I was rooting for the gold. Looks like I got my wish in a roundabout way. I think that pattern would look outstanding on a dark background with light colored Christmas fabric that has metallic accents it could look like a snowflake on a winter's night ❄️❄️❄️. That's a gorgeous quilt, Donna, thank you for showing us how it's done.
@@judithburke1539 Hi Judith. I actually said OMG to myself as I read your comment. Your idea would be stunning. I’m actually going to take a few minutes to put these ideas into my notes. Occasionally I make two versions of a quilt for two different sone and daughter in laws. Thanks 🙏 😘
Another pattern that I wouldn't have given more that a quick glance at because of the perceived difficulty. You just break things down so easily! Thank you so much Donna! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
That is really pretty & I do see flower shape but to me I see snowflakes. That would be pretty in icy colors. Maybe a future quilt block for me to try 😀
I think this would make a fabulous scrap quilt - build your blocks over time and then when you're ready -- just stick all the blocks together....or alternate with a different 10.5" block. Might also look good with a different color sashing and cornerstone....
While I'm not a fan of Civil War fabrics, I like the challenge of the pattern and I'm picturing this quilt with a dark background and bright batik flowers, or maybe Christmas fabrics. Great video!
I love how you iron your seams so smoothly and thoughtfully. I realized lately , that when I see someone slam the iron down and shake it like a dog with a bone, it makes me cringe. After all that work of cutting and stitching, we don’t want to beat up our blocks.🙂
Came out great. Navy blue back ground with with white flowers and red centers would be lovely as well. Or just two colors with center the same as the background….. but that won’t look like a flower🤦♀️
This is one quilt that would be a UFO, one block would be enough for me. You have made so many stunning quilts, this is the least of them all. Your videos are absolutely fantastic, even those from seven years ago. I love your colour choices and your method of teaching is brilliant. Best wishes, Elske Keeton
Bought the pattern today, made my first block. The video helped, as Donna showed which direction to press the seams as you went. The block looks great!
I bet it would look great too in really bright pinks, yellow, lime. Or Christmas metallic fabrics like as snowflakes. Awesome pattern, tons of possibilities! Thanks Donna 😊
Wow that is such a cheery quilt! I could just imagine that quilt in really bright batiks with a dark background. I just realised Donna said the very same thing, teehee. Fantastic quilt as always Donna. Lee x
This would be a perfect summer picnic quilt or a quilt for a child's room. My first grandchild will be here in a few weeks. This is one I'll make for her when she's a bit older. She can help pick the fabrics she loves.
Always enjoy your wonderful tutorials-great camera work and your logical, easy to understand direction. You remove any question of what to do with the cutting, sewing, and pressing of any pattern and I love that. Thank you so much!
I love this one because it teaches us something new! Donna's videos taught me how to quilt. She is the perfect instructor, better than anyone else I have seen on TH-cam. I am ready to pick up some new skills and this video showed me a new way to do a block I never would have guessed how to do! Thank you, Donna!
I would never have purchased this pattern until I watched how easy you made it look. You give such good instructions. I would now consider making this. Thank you Donna for such a wonderful tutioral.
Wow I love it.l really a very big fan of you mam.I think you and Matt should visit India because we have different types of fabrics in different corners of our country. We also have a incredible art of quilting from decades. I am sure that you will love it. I would love to host you .please come. I invite you from the bottom of my heart. Love you. If there any mistakes in my English then....
What a"happy little accident"! The gold thread is what I was picking. Thank you, Donna for showing that there can be more than one good thread selection.
I watched this during lunch at work. And I agree, it looks difficult but it’s not. The whole time I watched as the block was coming together I kept wondering how and when is Donna going to get the square in the center of the block. It is another great tutorial. Thank you Donna. I can’t wait for next one.
Thank you so much for this and all your tutorials! You are the only one I know of who teaches everything in fine detail, even the difficult parts, and you teach how to get through them. Your son is an excellent cameraman! Beautiful quilt! ❤️
Another great quilt video. As with a few other people, it is a quilt pattern that I would have passed by or just left on the shelf, did look "confusing", but you, as always, break down the pattern so it is easier to follow.
It turned out so nicely colored. I would never have picked out those colors myself, but you convinced me. It’s beautiful. Thanks for the good morning video.
Lovely to see this technique again. I made these flower designs about 15 years ago for a border around my daughters quilt. I had fun with the slicing and sewing. Very pretty
WOW! You kept cutting the strips and each one was an AHH moment once you sewed them! Thank you, truly brilliant piecing technique! If only I had a cup of coffee when watching this video BTW I love your choice of colors much better! 💜
What a beautiful quilt 🤩 and I agree, the back side looks absolutely stunning with the dark fabric and contrast thread. Also, I really enjoyed seeing you talk about the thread breaking mid quilting because I've often wondered what one would do if your longarm ran out of thread mid project. So thanks for including that little behind the scenes moment.
Donna, I usually know in my mind what the next step in the assembly of a given block that you are working on. But you had me baffled with this one, what an interesting piece and congratulations on another success. Your videos are always the best.
Donna, your tutorials are so thorough and your tips are so helpful. I appreciate that you have the patience to teach something you’ve probably done a million times. Thank you for helping so many of us learn how to quilt with confidence. Your channel is my favorite quilting channel on TH-cam! Please keep the tutorials coming!
I appreciate the time Donna takes to put a block together. Makes it more understandable and when you get one of those patterns I think it makes it more comfortable because a lot of these quilts look quite challenging. These quilters I see on TH-cam make everything look so easy and Donna you definitely do.
I think this pattern would look great in Christmas patterns either as red flowers and a yellow center and light neutral background or as snowflakes and a darker background
Great tutorial, Donna! It’s called “SLICE OF CAKE,” but it’s definitely NOT a piece of cake! Your ability to show the precision needed for cutting, stitching, and pressing is so helpful. Thank you!!!
WOW! Okay this is a quilt that if you had cutting anxiety it would either never get made or you would cure yourself!! When I saw the picture of the quilt I said "well that is too complicated". I am so happy I found your videos. Breaking down the math and showing the process has been a game changer for me to want to quilt. Thank you!
I am making this right now and the tutorial is so helpful. Donna is such a great teacher. Although, as Donna says, the pattern is very forgiving, it was not forgiving enough for my first attempt! Talk about crooked... However, on the second attempt I got the hang of it. This is such a fun quilt to make.
I love your chose of fabric. I have this pattern already. Will have to try it after seeing your beautiful quilt! The back was so beautiful, I really like how that turned out. WOW!
Just when I think you have done all possible blocks you come up with another outstanding quilt. Thank you so much. I think this would be possible to do as a quilt as you go pattern too, for those of us who don’t have easy access to long arm quilting. Way to go Donna & Team.
oh my goodness when you first showed us that pattern I thought I might as well not watch this one, too hard but you make it look sew easy I just might try it! such a fun pattern thank you❣
Beautifully done, both the pieced instructions and recording. Easy is not the word I would use but easier than I thought it would be to create this wonderful pattern. Thanks so much for teaching us how to do this. Blessings to y'all.

Yeah! Blue background with white snowflakes!
Isn’t that funny? I was thinking “asterisks”, if I didn’t add the little centre squares. Everyone sees things slightly differently sometimes! 😊
Question-Do you purchase the pattern in a kit then purchase the material that is listed? Cost?
I love watching and learning from your videos. I find the sound of the fabrics being cut very satisfying.

Great idea!!!
I was thinking the same - especially for a Quilt of Valor! The snowflake/flowers are kind of "starry," if done in reds & blues, with the center gold.
That ASMR of the cutting makes my day. So peaceful.
Mine is the quilt machine😊
