Today were going to install part number 38656. This is a trailer wiring junction box. First thing were going to do is find the location for our junction box. Were going to go ahead and install on the inside edge of the tongue. Well go ahead and hold it up to the tongue and then well go ahead and use a drill to mark it for our holes. We have our holes marked, well go ahead and remove the box, and then go ahead and drill out our hole.
Now well go ahead install our hardware and install our box. Now were going to use a quarter inch hardware to install the box to the frame. This hardware does not come with the box. With our box installed, we can go ahead and start getting our wiring ready. Well go ahead and cut our wires to the length of what we need and then well take our excessive length from our gray cable and use the white wire for our ground lead.
Were going to take the white wire, well add a couple of ring terminals, and well go ahead and connect it to the post labeled white and ground. Well also change out one of solid grommets for a hollow ground. With our new grommet installed, well go ahead and fish our wire through, and attach it to the box, and then were going to use a self-tapping screw to attach it to the frame. Now well go ahead and get the rest of our break cable ready, the gray cable will be for our electric brakes. Well cut back the gray sheath to expose our two wires.
Our white wire will go to ground, our black wire well go ahead and post to label blue, blue is only the function for brakes. Well go ahead add some ring terminals to it, then temporally put them into position. Now well go ahead and hook up our wires for our trailer lighting, well also go ahead and run it through the grommet and then go ahead and install our ring terminals. Now the brown wire on our trailer will be even running light circuit that will go to the post labeled brown, it will also say taillights on there. The green wire will be our right turn signal, well go ahead and connect that wire to a post labeled green, and it will say right turn.
The yellow wire well be our left turn signal and that will be connected to post labeled yellow and left turn. Now these wires have been loosely installed. Next well go ahead and wire our trailer connector, this is going to be a seven molded trailer wire connector, eight foot long, part number h20046. You see the seven pole and we have our wires. Once thing to know about this is that the functions do not match the colors better on the trailer. Now on the other side of the box well go ahead and replace them with solid grommets with a hollow grommet and well go ahead and run that over our wire that we can go ahead and push the wire back into the box. Then well go ahead and add our ring terminals to our wires. Now well go ahead and start attaching our wires, well start off with the green wire from the seven-pole which will be our running lights; this will be connected to the post with the brown wire from the trailer lights. The brown wire will be our right turn so that it will be connected to the post with the green wire from the trailer lights. The red wire will be the left turn function on the seven-pole, so well connect that to the post with the yellow wire from the trailer lights. Our blue wire will be our brake control power, so well hook that up to the post labeled blue. Now our yellow wire is usually reserved for reverse light or whatever function youd like. However, this application is not being used, so well just ignore that wire. Our black wire will be our 12 volt power supply, however this trailer is not using it right now, but well keep it to the junction box for our upgrade in the future. Well now go ahead and take our white wire push it to the ground from our towing vehicle that will be transferred to the trailer and well connect that back up to the white post, well get two white wires. With all of the wires in place well go ahead and tighten down the nuts. Next well go ahead and install the clamp from the wires that come in from the trailer side. Looking at the box on the left hand side there is provision for a clamp. Well make sure everything is pushed together properly and wont get pinched, well go ahead and install the cover. Well fasten and replace of these two bolts. Thats what it takes to install our junction box. All right with that it will finish it for our install of part number 38656, a trailer line junction box on this new trailer. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

How do you pull the wiring through the boat trailer that is in closed at the back ?
Why not run white wire (ground) to mounting bolt of the junction box?
Hey etraler I have a question for you. I have a battery that came with my cargo trailer that gets power from the truck as we tow the trailer to either charge or maintain its power. I just purchase a Hopkins charging breakaway battery kit.
If I connect the Hopkins charging battery to the truck as usual and it charges the breakaway battery can I parallel that battery to the battery that came with the trailer to then run my LED lights in the trailer when not connected to the truck?
I do realize that the lights will draw the batteries down but not that much and I only use the LED's in the trailer for at most one hour and they are low power LED's.
Any issue with this idea outside the draw usage?
wouldn't you mount the box orientated where the side of the box with the clamp is facing the front of the trailer to use the clamp to hold the 7pin wire side to help keeping it from pulling out when you turn the trailer
where is your emergency brake or break away and wiring for it?
when installing side lights do you run their ground back to the box or attach the ground to a screw into the metal frame?
When I went through Navy electronics school they taught us that 'Ground is Ground as the world is round'. Meaning it doesn't matter where you ground as it all goes to the same place. Hope that helps.
No die electric grease?
There is no need to use dielectric grease on the inside of a trailer wiring junction box. Many of the boxes have seals on the lid that will protect the connections from the elements.

Where is the best place to hook up my junction box? My landscaping trailer tongue rails are not big enough for it to fit inside. Can it go on the ouside of those rails sitting on the outside of the trailer or should it be tucked between the a in the trailer front?
You can place it anywhere that works best for your application. Typically it's installed in an out of the way area to keep it safe from the elements and road debris, but at the end of the day you got to do what works for you.

My plug on my truck has no power when I test the positive and negative so all of my lights work on my trailer but the inside dome lights and a added light on the back of the trailer they both have separate wall switches I'm wondering if I can just the the wire inside the control box and just put it with the trailer running lights. And do you know what color that wire would be ? The trailer is a 2018 stealth 7x14 cargo trailer. Thanks in advance
Where are you testing that shows no power? If they're not separately switched, interior trailer lamps are may times wired into the running lamp circuit. On most trailers, the running lamp circuit will be carried by a brown wire. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to verify.

Wish they had of used the right size of eyelet connectors (blue) for the small wires. Yellow ones are to big for that size of wires.
If the wiring on the trailer is of a smaller gauge, you can always strip the wire a little longer and fold the wire back on itself.

what exactly is the reason of the junction box? Is it a cleaner wiring? I have several Trailers. Nice videos
A junction box allows the conversion from (your car or truck) a 7 pin to whatever you're towing which allows wiring for 12V accessories and electric braking.
Cleaner wiring and it is so much easier to add or replace lights without redoing the entire harness. Even a caveman can figure it out
Why are the insulation colors inconsistent?
The wire colors are different in this video because the utility trailer that this junction box was installed on used SAE standard wire colors to all of the lights and brakes, but they used a pre-wired 7-way pigtail that was wired to the RV industry standard color code. The RV industry has their own standard color code that they use, but most utility trailer manufacturers use SAE standard code which is your common white, brown, yellow, green like you see on every 4-flat connector. Here is an article on trailer wiring that has a diagram under the 7-way section that shows the standard color codes and pin layouts that should help explain this more.

if you can't help me out. the right side of my lights won't light when I turn on all lights. they turn on when you brake or hit the turn signal but when you just need them on they don't turn on...there is current to all wires
Sounds like a bad ground connection or issues with the tail light wire/signal. I would start by checking the ground connections.
Why aren't these run according to colour .. brown to brown , green to green etc. etc.
The manufacturers use different colors when they make the box. We are not sure of the exact reasoning but we have seen a few wiring harnesses that match the coloring.

Decent video, except for the hundred "go ahead"'s. Doggone man, come up with a different phrase to signify moving forward in a project. PLEASE. Yeah, I know. There are other videos online to watch, but you kept it short, clean, and simple. Thanks.
