Here we bring before you an old footage of Tapinoma Ants that I had shot many years back. The footage being old and taken with a smartphone is of low quality. Still we are uploading the same because this is the only footage we have of these species of Ants hunting down a live insect.
#RECOMMENDED- To be viewed at higher resolution of 480 and above.
And do support us by liking the video and #SUBSCRIBING our channel.

I have recently caught a black crazy ant queen from a mature colony with few workers. Do you have some guidelines for me?

As I hv already mentioned the footage is old. No sample with me at present to analyse. So , have not been able to trace the species. Do u hv any idea what species they may be?

If workers no more than 15 then u can build a test tube set up for them and see if the Queen lays eggs. As their number grows u can shift them in a larger formicarium. Feed the with mixture of sweet food (honey water) and also protein (insects).

The quality is high even taken with a smart phone. It seems they are Tapinoma a melanocephalum, the ghost ant. I have recently seen them in a garden in the Canary Islands, close to Pheidole pallidulla nest, that did not attack them, I asume because they had a pungent odor. It is indeed astonishing how they perceive the ant lion as a danger, and risk their lives to take this monster away from their ant next vicinity.
Thanks again my friends by you wonderful videos.

Weavers sure like pulling apart other ants and insects they are really good at placing an insect in traction for very long periods of time and then using their acid to rip it apart or make it fall apart.

I guess this is tapinoma indicum. These are surely not ghost ants as some people here are saying. The gaster is darker.
