Crazy the amount of money people dump into their vehicles, when a newer one could be had. Yes, easier said than done. because even in 2021, it is not JUST a question of money, as it is about credit. Glad there are good people out there that help their community out.
Ok, before any arguments- I used to do this for a living, many years, and still do my own- but still disagree if you must. Buying a "Newer USED" car is just that- newer used parts. Vehicles are made up of parts. I would rather have a 1990 with $5,000 NEW parts than a USED 2010 "as is". A "used" car is a total crapshoot. A car that you've had a few years, renewing it's systems- is an _investment_. It builds equity- just like a house. I used to hear people, all the time say "why don't you buy a "newer" car, instead of "sinking money" into an "old" car? Is it still an "old" car if it has all new parts on/in it? No. After a while- you end up replacing the entire vehicle, except for frame/unibody structure. As long as the body is nice, decent paint, good HVAC, idles smooth, good on gas, comfy interior- what does model year mean?
I see your point but you can always look at the glass as half empty or half full. If people replaced all of the maintenance items all at the same time they yes its an investment and probably better than another used car but nobody does it like that. They fix the bare minimum . for example if the water pump gets replaced then 8 months later tie rods get done , then 6 months later serpentine belt.... That water pump is no longer "new" and is already and its way to failing. On top of that if the maintenance wasnt done i find they never took care of the body anyway. So your fancy new water pump means nothing on a car that looks like it belongs in the junk yard.
@@themechanic6117 oh, yes, agreed! "maintenance" is also upkeep. Basic "Preventative Maintenance" (PM) is not enough for longevity. Vehicles, houses, Humans, pets- all money pits.
Owner needs to definitively access the situation. What and when exactly has been replaced on this car so far. "miles" and "year" are a sales gimmick. A salvage yard windshield and side glass are worth it and relatively cheap. MECH A NIC could replace them, easily. Suction cup tool, 1 cartridge of urethane adhesive, removal tool. Ask her to have you degrease the entire mess. (DIY car wash pressure wash + 2 cans of Gunk) A fair "under hood wash" price is $25 + cleaner + 10 minutes of wand time. Stress the importance of a clean powertrain, easy to monitor leaks, see new damage.
Thank you for another great video, MECH A NIC What is that dripping, just above field of view, 3mm above inner tie rod, rear of engine *@**1:55* ?It appears to be saturated back there. It only shows one drop.
So, This brings up a question. If you have a car that does not run and you decide to junk it, Are there junk yards that will come pick it up and hand you some cash for it? Or do you have to arrange the "last drive" to the junk yard? Im asking for a friend - lol...
I'm glad I came across your video I have been having trouble with my Impala to if you you write me please please I've spent hundreds of dollars maybe more on getting little things fixed like the power steering leack
Mine only leaks in freezing weather when the power steering fluid thickens the pump pushes all the thick fluid out instead of circulating it. not sure how to fix that problem permanently
So I was very confused when you sent power to to the horn and it worked because on normal fuse boxes the fuse comes before the relay but I looked up the wiring diagram and in the TIPM the relay comes before the fuse weird Chevy's absolute crap lol😂
All the money she could of saved by having the power steering fluid flushed every 30,000 miles or so would of probably prevented the seals and system going bad.
Lift up the two front tires off the ground, make sure your power steering is full then turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, all the way left then all the way right while checking the fluid and adding , do that about 10 times .
My 2005 Malibu is doing OK, no major repairs needed, a water pump, alternator needed replacement but at 15 years that's to be expected. The real mistake for GM was replacing the pushrod 3.5L V6 for the OHC 3.6 V6, it did gain 55 HO over the older unit, (200vs255) but the long timing chain easily goes bad and most need to pull it out of a FWD vehicle to change it, not a cheap repair.
@@PhillyDee215 Yup, stone cold reliable, you can only get so much power from a pushrod design but most who got to pay for a timing set replacement on the 3.6 would have gladly lived without the extra 40 HP vs shelling out $2,000 for the repair.

Every car worth fixing buddy as long the customer wants fix it and they have money buddy keep the videos coming myfriend great job like always
When a customer asks me if it's fixable, I tell them everything is fixable, just depends how much money you want to put into it
That sure looks like a Chicago steering wheel. Smashed in from all the horn slamming. Your a good guy for doing the extra work for free
Chicago steering wheel😂never heard that before lol
Horn slamming. I thought that was in every major city.
Your videos have helped alot lately. Just changed timing cover gasket on my grand prix. Next is cv axles/ control arms/ sway bar bushings.
Nice work!
Thanks man! Should be a solid unit after all this. Fingers crossed 🤞
Good luck 👍

That thing doesn’t want to go away lol! Great video Jonathan!
I still can't believe she saved up for the pcm lol arse is hanging out of the car but whatever 😂😂😂 Great job as always Jonathan!
One persons trash is another person's treasure lol

Looks like someone was hella mad at that steering wheel! Lol
It got the death punch a few time! Road rage? 😬
Wow! Great video i have the same issue i am dealing with.
Sorry to hear that, hopefully you get it fixed
Dude is that my black impala power steering leak and no horn😅
To bad this is a common thing. 😅

I just noticed that. I think thats ps fluid coming from the leaking hose above it
I can't believe she actually replaced a pcm in a car that needs so much other repairs.
She had too much invested in it to turn back now . pcm was last piece of the puzzle to get it driving

If you drive it to the junk yard you'll get more money for it. If they have to send a tow truck to pick it up you'll get less money

Update?
I'm have this same problem I can't wait to the morning cause my fluid is leak from the same area
Tell the customer the car is worth $1000 on a good day.
Sad but true. So much money was dumped into it. Hopefully she doesnt have any more major issues
Thank u sir👍
You're welcome
Show up to the ER covered in blood, and say "fix me".
Sounds about right lol
So it was the horn relay then ?
I have no idea. The relay is part of the fuse panel and the owner didnt want to pay for a wiring diagram or my time

Exactly! I was also shocked to find out you can power the horn by giving power to the fuse. Chevy and all their wisdom lol
PS hose, that's why I like screw clamps... they don't stretch as much.
True but it takes years for them to stretch . well it has new clamps now and owner says the power steering has been working fine👍
@@themechanic6117 how much your charge to change that little rubber hole
I didn't charge for that since I was just in there when I replaced the pump.
Hey, you haven't been scared by anything in awhile. You OK?
😂😂 its funny cause something scared me yesterday lol. Got it on video
Wheres the "first" guys at today? 🤔

Not sure what you're saying..
Clock spring
You have to remove the whole steering wheel to get the clock spring off
Ok
How did you bleed the ps system?
