    New Assetto Corsa mod time, and Bermgarten is another stunning classic circuit produced by Fat Alfie.
    The Bremgarten circuit was located to the North of Bern, though expansion of the city has rather made that distinction somewhat needless. At just over 7Km long, it's actually fairly sensible by the standards of the day, and thus makes for a decent playground in a racing sim. The parkland location provides a stunning backdrop for this road course, which as you can see from the images features plenty of that all-important elevation change. And, as a side order to the hilly bits, we're also treated to narrow tarmac, at least where this is any tarmac, and a seemingly limitless number of trees lining the route, as was the style at the time. There really are only two notable stopping points on the circuit, with the rest being made up of fast, and very fast corners. All in all, it's exactly the sort of place for which risk assessments were invented.

    The surface detail is stunning. Something lacking in a lot of natural vintage road circuits. Love it

      Oh for sure. And there's a lot of variety in it as well. Horrible low grip cobblestones, followed by the bumpy section by the quarry(?) and then out onto better maintained open roads.

    Wow, I wasn't expecting to see that! Absolutely beautiful video work, Chris. You've really flattered my track :o
    My usual test is "Does it look okay at full racing speed?", but I think in future I'll need to check it looks okay at x0.1 speed or super-slow-mo before I release anything :D
    Thanks again for the review, it's very much appreciated!

      I think I pretty well laid out my thoughts on this track in the comments to your onboard lap video.
      And I found a Race Department chain with comments from you in it from some months back, and now I'm trying to find any sort of track maps for either Inselsberg or Koenigswinter.
      I also noticed in that thread that you didn't seem much for circuits in the US. Even so, I guess if I were to suggest any you might take a look at, they'd be any of the 3 versions of the Long Island circuit used for the 1904-06 Vanderbilt Cup races, Bottomless Lakes in New Mexico, Watkins Glen (1948-52), Elkhart Lake (1951-52), and Bridgehampton (1949-53).
      But anyway, this Bremgarten is stunning. I've also been glad for the eye candy I can get of Battenbergring, through your videos, the Vintage AC races from a little while back, or the pictures you posted in that RD thread.
      Take care, Thanks for the excellent tracks so far. And looking forward to future projects.

      @@Villoresi You can find descriptions of those two German tracks in the PDF file called "RennenRacesVitesse" on wegcircuits.nl - if you send me a PM on RaceDepartment I can send you the layouts marked up on topographic maps. My current focus is on Battenbergring, Solitude and Schottenring, and I don't anticipate starting any new tracks in the foreseeable future.

    • @Villoresi
      @Villoresi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidpemberton5995 Yeah, I was able to find Inselsberg on the CIRCUITI database as well, but had to go into that PDF to find Koenigswinter at all.
      Well, you've given Switzerland some attention, now back to Germany before the Italians or French. I'm guessing your main focus is still the classic, 11.5-km version of Solitude used in 1935-65. I'm just noting that seeing as you have those 2 1920s road circuits on your list, and Solitude also had a couple longer iterations in 1924-30 and '31.
      It will definitely be nice to see Battenberg get properly out there. I suppose it wouldn't go amiss to sneak in a nod or two to the Windsor branch of the Mountbatten family.
      Welp, I guess I'm signing up for RD, though that may have to wait for tomorrow. Have some family in town to go see a bit later.

    Kunos should have tipped Fat Alfie the wink by now, and released his incredible work as a pack in an official capacity - perhaps at a small but not insignificant cost through Steam. Race Dept. deserves a nod too I'm sure. He is undoubtedly the master of vintage AC tracks, and possibly AC tracks as a whole. Lovely camera work to further showcase his talents Chris! Thanks, looking forward to enjoying this tomorrow with the right cars, and my 250 GTO rim and gated shifter!

    • @ChrisHaye
      @ChrisHaye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, completely agree. Though, I doubt it would be in Kunos' business interests to look towards the past sadly.
      How do you like the Thrustmaster 250 GTO rim? I keep thinking about picking one up to convert to a more universal quick release.

    • @Villoresi
      @Villoresi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, both Sergio Loro (F3 Classic Tracks) and LilSki are very good also. Each of the 3 (including Fat-Alfie/David Pemberton) have different specialties.
      LilSki does great recreations of classic, or classic-style, permanent road courses. His Riverside and Bridgehampton are truly spectacular.
      Sergio perhaps tends to pick up classic tracks at the shorter end of the spectrum, but you also see some other sorts of jewels from him, like his '60s versions of Watkins Glen, Zandvoort, Hockenheim, and Rouen, as well as his Sudschleife and '50s Norisring.
      Fat-Alfie, well, he picks up the big stuff, the old public road circuits that are no longer around. This is his shortest track, aside from Thomson Road, and even that one is still nearly 5 km around. And the biggest one, in the works, is the massive Mugello Stradale.

    • @aeiouxs
      @aeiouxs 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisHaye hey mate actually we have conversed about the rim before - yeah it's a beautiful rim, just very light feeling and I'm not 100% sure it's wood even if TM say it is ;) Definitely ticks the boxes for a vintage buttonless rim, I'd just not recommend paying full price for it (I paid half, very lucky timing). Cheers Chris!

    There's nothing I can add about the feel or the visuals, but one of the many, many astounding things about FatAlfie's circuits to me is just how well the AI plays with them, which is never easy in vintage cars at the best of times. I can hardly thread a Ferrari P4 through the track on my own, but somehow he's gotten the Fords and Ferraris to play nicely with each other for lap after lap without causing the usual wreckages. The attention to the unseen is always much appreciated because it gives the circuit so much longevity (and is a big reason why his circuits now make up a third of my AC install).
    Right, back to spotting birds and marshall's coffee mugs...

    • @ChrisHaye
      @ChrisHaye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The AI thing is definitely something I've noted. And I guess it's a small detail for a lot of people, but I spend a huge amount of time in single player, especially with older content, so it's really important that it works well.

    • @dodge33cymru
      @dodge33cymru 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisHaye Aye, especially since having a little one, my sim racing requires a pause button and no specific timings, so AI is critical to my enjoyment and immersion - I lambasted AC's AI for years, until I realised that it's actually quite good fun (as long as it's a single class race) when racing on tracks from modders who have mastered it (and as long as you do a practice/qualy session for them to calibrate).
      I certainly don't begrudge any track builder who hasn't perfected this part - it's not a natural part of building a 3D circuit - but racing at any of FatAlfie's tracks is an example of how well this CAN be done. Fortunately there are some AI experts helping with some of the other vintage tracks too (eg KevinK2's Monaco '66 AI).
      Thanks for the great video, always at your artistic best with AC mods!

    Excellent and fantastically fun video, Chris. Well done!
    Yes, this track is "terrifying". It's one of the most relentless circuits I can think of. I mean, there are places around the Nordschleife and others where you can get a comparative rest, but definitely not here.
    This recreation of Bremgarten makes me wonder just how demanding the largest part of the lap would be around the old Clermont Ferrand, as done by David.
    I really do hope Fat-Alfie is able to finish off Battenbergring fairly soon. These long stints on Bremgarten and Mugello Stradale should have freshened him up some to go back to that other project and tick off the final few percent.
    We could also possibly do with a few more top-notch 1930s GP cars in AC.

    The 1923 grand prix cars by nicecuppatea feel amazing on this track. They just feel at home sliding through the fast corners. The bumps and penultimate corner become a real challenge. Even driving slow, they feel fantastic. Especially the Fiat. The Bugatti is a real challenge under braking too.
