Hey Danny, what if your hvac system only puts air out on the dash and not out defrost or floor, Regardless of which zone is selected? Just noticed my 2010 civic has this when trying to defrost I selected defrost and air continues coming from dashboard vents
My 2013 civic just started instantly blowing warm on my way home, went cold for 30 seconds again and back to warm. Owned it for 10 years 110,000 miles and this is the first issue I’ve really had with the car lol. It’s also extremely hot outside right now and one of my suspicions is the system kicks off when it’s too hot.
@@dannysdiygarage not yet, maybe tomorrow actually. What ended up happening was the red 12 volt wire rotted off the electromagnet side of the clutch. It was barely connected, thus an intermittent weak connection and sometimes it would work sometimes not. I ordered a whole new clutch assy with pulley, clutch, electromagnet for $40. The replacement process is straightforward. Compressor doesn’t need to come off, Freon doesn’t need evac or recharge.
Hi, I have a 2010 Civic. The AC blows cold air for the first 10-15 minutes of the day, but then it cuts out only blowing hot fan air. The car will need to cool down for a few hours or perhaps overnight before it will blow cold air again in the morning. The hotter the ambient temperature, the shorter the AC is lived. 60-70 F will last 30 minutes before cutout. 95F maybe only 5-10 minutes before cutout. Does this sound like the compressor clutch wearing out? If so, should I just buy a new compressor? Thanks!
Not yet. I can visually see the compressor clutch disengaged after the AC cuts out. And then if I tap it into place it will run for another 5 minutes. Best I can guess is there is weakness in the magnet or coil system that developed. I’m going to buy an entire new compressor and clutch assembly from Denso and have Honda install it in the next week hopefully.
Danny - I didn't get any codes from the control panel at 2:09 in the video. At 2:26 in this video, the 2nd mode/button from the left on the control panel is NOT working properly. This is the button where there is an arrow pointing to the face and an arrow pointing down to the floor. The light comes on OK, but the air is ONLY coming on at the bottom toward the floor, NOT at the top toward the face. I did notice that if I select the 1st button, with the arrow to the face, and the 3rd button with arrow pointing to the floor separately they both work. What could be the issue?
So a guy was trying to help me and connected the freon can but nothing would go in It seems to me that Honda has the worst air conditioning system ever built. Myself and both of my sons have Honda vehicles with dead air conditioners. It never happened in my Toyota's before
I bought a used Honda 3 months ago that had ac issues. They had to replace the compressor. I also never had any ac issues with Toyota. After this car I'm going back to Toyota.
Hey there my friends I want to tell you that my neighbor was mechanic and he did the so-called Freon recharging and brought it all back to life. So that has changed my opinion so much
@@jamesbondaygeehad my 2010 civic for 10 years now. Did end up having to replace a Freon line once and had to recharge freon about 3 times. But other than that, it's been pretty reliable. Cools just as fast as most modern, newer cats.
Hi Danny thank you. You are a teacher. I changed the relay because the AC was intermittent in my civic 2008 then the odometer cannot be modified and also the AC continue intermittent. Advice please
Correct me if I’m wrong but when filling the low pressure side are you not supposed to keep the can upright and 45 degrees max to keep liquid from going into the low side? Can’t compress liquid, right?
So I have a little bit of an odd issue. When I bought the car the ac would not blow as cold at an idle but would blow very cold while driving. Now it consistently blows much warmer regardless driving or not. The clutch on the compressor engages. Both fans kick on. And the dummy gauge reads that it has refrigerant in the system. I’m thinking either blend door actuator or possible the expansion valve. I already pulled the cabin filter and cleaned it out.
Danny, is there any danger in adding Freon if Freon is not the issue? I suspect that is the issue with mine, but I do not have a thermo to test the before and after. Is there any danger in adding some Freon and then checking if the AC blows cold after? Thanks!
Yes, if you overfill the system it will cause more problems for you. If you're able to,Buy a gauge to test it. Better to be safe than sorry. Ac's are such a blessing and for me A complete necessity. I no longer have a thyroid soo it's no beuno not having AC right now. No one can pin point wtf is wrong with mine so I'm trying to do it myself lol. Ohh ohh get a gauge that shows you BOTH the high and low side! I hope you get it figured out❤
Hello, danny I really need help, my ac clutch doesn’t work, but everything on the air conditioner seems to be fine, compressor even works and blows hot air, and everything, of course it’s low on Freon r134a, but air conditioner tries to work and blows a little cold air, but when I try to blow cold air it blows warm, can you help me what is the problem?, also the air conditioner fan works without problem, the engine one doesn’t because it is not necessary
Danny help me out. My AC works and the clutch engages and disengages like its supposed to for 10 minutes then it just quits and dont engage again. Does this sound like low freon? I tried recharging it with freon a while back and i tried the fuse swap nothing. Everything else looks fine like u mentioned but i don't know what to do. Should i try to recharge my ac again maybe i didn't do it right??
Hey Danny. I also have a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid. I have a digital thermostat temp gauge. When holding down the recirculate and rear defogger for a few seconds my display spelled out AC. My control head does is not change the direction of the air and it’s also hot air and not blowing cold. Any ideas?
Hi danny, I have a 2008 civic lx. The AC will work when at night time, AC will work for the first 5-10 mins of driving at the hot day then it will start not blowing cold air. What can be the problems there and I have recharge the AC.
My 2011 CRV ended up having clutch engagement issues due to wear and tear increasing the spacing between it and the compressor. Removed it and removed a spacing shim to reduce the gap back within spec and now it engages and blows cold!
There are 3 or 4 shims in there of different thickness. The air gap recommended is 0.35mm to 0.65mm (about .014" to .024"). Removed 1 or 2 that give a recommended air gap between the clutch plate and pulley.
Hi Danny, thanks for the informative videos. I did the test on the head unit on my 2009 Honda Civic and the light was flashing 4 quick flashes repeatedly. What does that indicate? My ac doesn’t seem as cold as it should be. Thanks John
I had problem with 2007 civic where clutch only engaged sometimes the hotter it got outside the less likely it was to work so we took ac clutch plate off through wheel well it is a common problem and took out one spacer shim washer and cleaned rust from back of clutch plate with wire wheel the few thousands of the shim had it working perfectly after we put it back together and it has worked for years since then
Question: 07 Civic EX. A/C wasn't charged when I bought it. I was told it just needed freon. Bought a charge kit from Walmart. Put it on the low pressure side to change it. It was empty. Turned everything on high/max, pulled the trigger, clutch activated but the gauge shot to the red/full/danger zone within 3 secs. I know it's not full. What do you think?
Thanks for making the video! Was hoping it would be the easy relay fix, but I'm now thinking it's the clutch because I've seen others mention the thing about heat causing it to stop.
Is it true that we aren’t supposed to mix R134a and R134? I’m in Canada and my used Civic originally had R134a, and I heard that I’m supposed to flush it first.
I replaced my clutch and magnet I had the ac running properly for 3 days then started blowing hot air. Freeon was topped up and relay was changed. I. Wondering if it's the expansion valve?
@@dannysdiygarage try to add 12a to the civic with 134a freon, some said don't mix, but many said they just add 12a into system with 134a and have no problem even after few years , so should I do this ?
I think this video needs to add changing out the fuse and relay. That fixed my problem because I saw that the clutch was not engaging when I turned on the A/C. There's no problem with the fan or the system holding pressure.
not sure if you experience this situation I am currently having on my civic aircon. After driving a while longer with AC on turned at the lowest temperature, the ac starts blowing hot air, it literally just heats up instead of just not blowing cold air. with AC on putting it to low temperature cant defog, now I can only use high temperature to defog. It does has compressor clutch engaging all but blow wrong temperature. what component do you think it could go wrong? The ac blows normal cold air varies from different temperature I set, most of the time while the car has been driven like the first 15-20mins after a certain time, that symptom starts.
Hi Danny, thanks for your great videos. I have a 07 Honda Civic EX with digital AC, I tried to make the evaluation with the 2 buttons that you show in the video but it doesn´t work, Do you know how can I do it in the EX version? Thanks.
Well you're over 10,000 subs. So mechanic filled with new freon and the A/C got cold, but a few days later it was blowing warm air. Mechanic did not detect leak. Clutch kicks on. Your thoughts?
Gotta look at the gauge, the gauge will help diagnose, does the compressor cycle a lot or stay on? I have a few videos on ac and videos on ac fans also, check them out
My radiator fan works but condenser fan won’t turn on, and my compressor turns on when I hit it with a screw driver, does that mean I should adjust the shim?
possibly, however I would also tap the condenser fan motor to see if it starts working, I show this in my window motor video, or even starter video, its a great way to test motors of any kind, link th-cam.com/video/8B0d4jfwGYk/w-d-xo.html
May i ask y a question with a ac issue. I have a honda 2008 mk8 1.8. I filled the ac up with coulant. I replacement the relay I can hear the ac pomp working. I checked the same wire. I have 1 connection instead of 3, it works. The H intake feels cold but the L intake feels warm. Still the air isnt cool inside the car. What could be the problemen?

Very high quality made video, thank you so much! I’m curious: I believe our ‘09 Civic needs a new compressor clutch. If i’m not mistaken, the compressor clutch SHOULD be spinning once A/C is activated, correct? Ours is not activated with A/C on and is blowing very warm air. It will only work for around 10 minutes at the start of everyday - consistently. Curious to hear yours or anyone’s thoughts.
The ac is activated when the switch is turned on and condition are met, low Freon will cause the clutch not to activate also, check out this video also th-cam.com/video/i94Bv8KaVzA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=T2czxY_4fbN0ZBe9
check your fans too. both should spin when the acs on. if one dont spin, you dont get enough airflow on hotter days. i just drove home today in 112°f heat and it was enough to make the compressor shut itself off, all cause the stupid condenser fan relay didnt work :(
Exelent video Here's is my issue 2007 civic we replace the ac compresor, expansion valve ,new condensor car still Not blowing consistenly cold air note the compresor clucth engage only for 7 to 10 seconds then turn off any advice what also we have to do please help apreciated
Hooking up a set of gauges is necessary to see what’s going on, in California auto parts stores loan them our, pressure reading will help identify what’s going on here
My issue is the worst one…compressor clutch will not engage even with giving it the love tap that Danny did. A/c relay sway with radiator swap also did not engage the clutch…
What are your thoughts on hotwiring a switch to my dashboard in order to get my ac running. It’s an old car, ‘96. The ac works, I just can’t get the compressor to engage no matter how many parts I replace. No one can figure it out. I’ve heard of people doing this. I understand that this could kill the compressor, but if I cycle the switch on and off, maybe I could get by. What do you think? Thank you!
I would not do a switch, I would spend more time to diagnose the problem, I don't know what diagnostics you have done, but there is a Thermal protecter in that circuit, should be somewhere left front corner of the engine compartment, two red wires going to it. check that
@@dannysdiygarage. Thank you for your timely response. You give good advice. I was blessed to find a video about my same vehicle with the very same problem. It turned out to be a burned AC control panel. I removed mine today and immediately knew by the smell that I have a bad unit. It was the same odor that I had detected just minutes before it stopped working. I’m getting one cheap tomorrow and it swaps out extremely easily. If by some strange circumstance anyone owns a 1996 Nissan Quest/mercury Villager, and has tried everything without success, just know that the head unit is trouble prone and hard to diagnose because it still functions in every way except for the AC on button which is responsible for engaging the clutch. However, the light illuminates when depressed which makes one believe that the compressor is getting a call to engage but not so. Hopefully this helps someone.

Expansion valve meters the Freon and it was the most logical solution and it worked
Thanks!
Did you ever find the issue? I’m literally having the same exact problem right now in my 2010
THANK YOU,
Mr. Danny n God bless 🙌
So a guy was trying to help me and connected the freon can but nothing would go in
It seems to me that Honda has the worst air conditioning system ever built.
Did end up having to replace a Freon line
once and had to recharge freon about 3 times.
Thank you sir…your video was excellent and great tips to troubleshoot ac problems.
Glad to hear it, appreciate that
Correct me if I’m wrong but when filling the low pressure side are you not supposed to keep the can upright and 45 degrees max to keep liquid from going into the low side? Can’t compress liquid, right?
The can has special instructions on this, follow the instructions on the can, but you are correct unless the can says different
I already pulled the cabin filter and cleaned it out.
same issue with mine. did you you get it figured out?
Can you use another unit on your car screen??
My 2011 CRV ended up having clutch engagement issues due to wear and tear increasing the spacing between it and the compressor. Removed it and removed a spacing shim to reduce the gap back within spec and now it engages and blows cold!
Awesome, great information, I appreciate you sharing this👍🏼
There are 3 or 4 shims in there of different thickness.
The air gap recommended is 0.35mm to 0.65mm (about .014" to .024").
Removed 1 or 2 that give a recommended air gap between the clutch plate and pulley.
Hi sir , What does it mean the light flashing on the recirculating bottom?!
Check the description in this video for the description of the light flashing
DUUUUDE IS A LIFE SAVER!!! Thanks!!!
I appreciate this comment
Hi Danny, thanks for the informative videos. I did the test on the head unit on my 2009 Honda Civic and the light was flashing 4 quick flashes repeatedly. What does that indicate? My ac doesn’t seem as cold as it should be. Thanks John
In the description there is a list of codes that explain the flashes, check it out
Hi Danny, I see it now. The motor that redirects the airflow to the various vents . Thanks for the prompt response.👍
Grate video danny, do you know what to do if the diagnosis blinks 4 times?
Should be in the description or in the comments
I had problem with 2007 civic where clutch only engaged sometimes the hotter it got outside the less likely it was to work so we took ac clutch plate off through wheel well it is a common problem and took out one spacer shim washer and cleaned rust from back of clutch plate with wire wheel the few thousands of the shim had it working perfectly after we put it back together and it has worked for years since then
I’ve also had that problem, years ago, thanks for sharing
Will this work for the 8th gen 1.8 hattchback here in europe
I’m not sure , try it and report back if you could
Very helpful tips. Thanks a lot my dear friend. God Bless you!!!🙏
appreciate your comment
Question: 07 Civic EX. A/C wasn't charged when I bought it. I was told it just needed freon. Bought a charge kit from Walmart. Put it on the low pressure side to change it. It was empty. Turned everything on high/max, pulled the trigger, clutch activated but the gauge shot to the red/full/danger zone within 3 secs. I know it's not full. What do you think?
many reasons, I could not begin to even guess unless you installed a set of gauges and had reading of both high and low side, sorry
Did you pull system into a vacuum 1st?
What if the ac system which is the button doesn’t work where it should be so what could be the issue the button malfunction
Thank you for the video I have CRV 2007 the AC is not cooling enough I add some frion but still the same could you please help me thank you
Thanks for making the video! Was hoping it would be the easy relay fix, but I'm now thinking it's the clutch because I've seen others mention the thing about heat causing it to stop.
You’re welcome, appreciate your feedback, thanks for that
Best video so far
Is it true that we aren’t supposed to mix R134a and R134? I’m in Canada and my used Civic originally had R134a, and I heard that I’m supposed to flush it first.
True, not meant to be mixed
@@dannysdiygarage thanks for the advise!!
I replaced my clutch and magnet I had the ac running properly for 3 days then started blowing hot air. Freeon was topped up and relay was changed. I. Wondering if it's the expansion valve?
What made you come to the conclusion that it was the expansion valve that needed replaced?
My gauge readings were not making sense and I was sure it had to do with metering the Freon
Can you add freon yourself if the clutch does not engage?
Yes, I have a video showing this
HOLY FUCKIN' FUCK!!!
YOUR "NOT RECOMMENDED" METHOD WORKED FOR MY CAR!😂😢
THANK you so much!
My compessor clutch did engage, i haven't fill the freon yet, if i fill the freon and temperature drop, is that mean there is leaking?
that is correct
@@dannysdiygarage try to add 12a to the civic with 134a freon, some said don't mix, but many said they just add 12a into system with 134a and have no problem even after few years , so should I do this ?
So the only fan, the drivers side, turns on for me. Gotta figure out why and if that's my problem or if there's more to it.
This video should help you determine what is causing your fan problem th-cam.com/video/Uw4lLvyFOns/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HgiEYW47OeGidAZQ
well done sir! professional and logical!
I think this video needs to add changing out the fuse and relay. That fixed my problem because I saw that the clutch was not engaging when I turned on the A/C. There's no problem with the fan or the system holding pressure.
Great addition, thanks for adding this information
not sure if you experience this situation I am currently having on my civic aircon.
My pressure system is messed up and the low side has high pressure and the high side has low pressure. What do I do? Jot trying to go to mechanic
Hi Danny, thanks for your great videos. I have a 07 Honda Civic EX with digital AC, I tried to make the evaluation with the 2 buttons that you show in the video but it doesn´t work, Do you know how can I do it in the EX version? Thanks.
I'm not sure an 07 has that feature
What does it mean when the circulation light keeps blinking? After doing 1:25 please help.
What about blowing cold while.moving but when sitting still not as cold . The system works how to check for that problem
sorry I missed this comment, I have a recent video on blowing warm at stops
My clutch is engaging, but AC not cooling like before. Can it be a relay issue or need more r134?
Well you're over 10,000 subs. So mechanic filled with new freon and the A/C got cold, but a few days later it was blowing warm air. Mechanic did not detect leak. Clutch kicks on. Your thoughts?
Gotta look at the gauge, the gauge will help diagnose, does the compressor cycle a lot or stay on? I have a few videos on ac and videos on ac fans also, check them out
Worked for me..thanks alot...just had to reset
Trying to figure out why the ac blows cool on passenger side vents coldest on far right and hot on driver side vents
I replacement the relay
I can hear the ac pomp working. I checked the same wire. I have 1 connection instead of 3, it works. The H intake feels cold but the L intake feels warm. Still the air isnt cool inside the car. What could be the problemen?
The fans are not turning on. What might be the issue??
I would bet it’s the blower motor or the blower motor resistor. Try the cheaper one first of course.
so the actuator moves when i change where the air flow goes, but doesnt move when i turn the nob from hot to cold. do i replace it?
Where do I find the blend door
Here are two videos on the actuators
, hopefully this helps.

@dannysdiygarage thanks a million
What do the blinking light holding the recycling button on my condenser fan is not getting any power maybe that's the reason
You are a GREAT teacher ! 👍

Amazing video AC working perfect now thank you.
You're welcome, appreciate your comment.
check your fans too. both should spin when the acs on. if one dont spin, you dont get enough airflow on hotter days. i just drove home today in 112°f heat and it was enough to make the compressor shut itself off, all cause the stupid condenser fan relay didnt work :(
0:32 man just called us all out lmao 😂
Which side did you hook the Freon can to? Should be the low pressure side, correct?
I see or hear where you said the low side. May I suggest clearing that up if possible. Greta video by the way !! I learned a lot.
Low side

Where is the actuator module located?
Is it under the hood?
In my 2008 civic it is behind the glove box on the left.
@@seanriley3921 thank you. Will look into it.
Never mind that seems to be the mode actuator to change from defrost to front and bottom blowing

Glad I could help!
