The Honda Civic is surprisingly very reliable, however, that does not mean they are all problem free.
I am not saying do not buy one.
I am simply trying to help people either diagnose issues they may have and help others with inspecting the car before their purchase.
Too many haters here in the comment section 😂

TH-cam deletes rude/aggressive/cursing comments automatically. I rarely ever delete comments myself.
And, I saw that. It really makes a lot of sense. I’ve seen those comments and I actually get a lot of those ignorant comments myself on some of my videos. There are always those types of people who cant see your point of view.
      Hope you are well!

I am not saying don’t buy one, my friend. I’m stating that if issues pop up, these are most likely the issues. And, a lot of people have validated all the issues.

I picked up this model back in 2008 when it had 44,000 miles. It's 2021 it still running strong at 189,000 miles. Only problem I had is worn front struts, failed starter and blow cv axles. All fixed and everything is maintained through service manual. This car definitely worth the buy.

I’ve owned two of them in the past 5 years and own one currently. Never had an issue aside from struts and the normal maintenance, he is speaking truth about the 3rd gear issue on the manual trannys. I literally have had none of these issues except for the motor mount issue, and that one is surprisingly easy to fix. These cars are very reliable. The only other issue I have had was a couple batteries needing replaced, a valve cover gasket, and then a starter, but those are all preventive maintenance issues that occur on ANY vehicle. I have around 190k on my 08 Civic EX coupe and it's still running strong. Though the issues in this video can potentially happen, they are still pretty rare issues

I bought a 2011 civic new, and am still driving it with 277000 miles, and have had none of the issues listed. Only issues with mine was a power steering rack replacement, and replacing the compressor clutch for the air conditioning. Both of which I did myself. The car has never been in a shop for repair other than a recall for the locking mechanism in the doors. It consistantly gets 38 miles per gallon when I drive it (very little city driving). No cvt, no turbo, no hybrid, and no problems. I bought it on clearance for under $17000 when the new model year was coming out. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

i have an 06 honda civic and i absolutely love the car the drive, the milage, the looks, everything... when you mentioned the crack in the block i felt that one because the same thing has happened to my car.. the way it happened isi got service done at honda and my car was around the early stages of 100k miles and since this is my first car im not knowledge able in parts and what needed to be changed plus honda should of brought it up since they was working under the hood, anyway i was driving to this place about an hour away and some time between than my water pump failed and i wasn't aware of it so i drove the car hot and when i did it cracked the block.. took it to honda and they told me it will be $3k+ for a new motor/used one and i laughed at them.. im still dealing with the issue now and it has 160k miles.. if you don't mind paying $7 in coolant a month it should last till 200k+ miles.. my block started with one crack and broke open to two.. granted i tried fixing one side with jb weld and it failed miserably it still runs fine and im not about to drop $3k into a new motor id rather put that twords a newer model and never deal with that again... but figured id put my personal experience with the infamous "block leak" and tell you honda will no longer be on your side...

Just maintain the engine oil, filter, power steering fliud, brake fluid etc and you'll be driving that car for the rest of your life. Oh and change your power steering fliud every 60k miles that's want causes the pump to fail is dirty power steering fluid. If you feel it's hard to turn your wheel it's most like just dirty fluid. I had a 2007 Honda Civic Coupe for 13 years. It was not without its problems. A lot of things in this video also happened to me including both visors, the engine mounts needing replaced, the wheel axel needing replacement because factory one was defective. Also the paint, airbag lights and even the engine block cracking are all true. I got under the warranty by 1 month dealer told me. It was a good car that never really rode straight or stable but excellent on gas for sure, nice sound system, coasted like a dream and a cool dashboard display.

Bought my 09 ex sedan brand new when I was 20 and I’m still driving it. I’m about to hit 130k miles which isn’t much at all but Iv never had any of these issues . The only time the car left me stranded was when the ignition starter died, but that was definitely preventable because the car was having trouble starting for multiple months and I never had it looked at. Besides that, a belt tensioner snapped, my muffler snapped off, my driver side back window is stuck but not broken, and the entire center console lid is broken off but that was from a golf bag falling on it. None of these left me stranded and I’d consider to be wear and tear after 12 years. Some of the dash lights have started to go. Like the first fuel bar doesn’t light up. Little things. I put si seats in mine because I felt like mine were starting to wear internally and my back was hurting. The biggest flaw with the car IMO is because of the extended windshield, the A pillars are very long and create a huge blind spot that you don’t see in most cars. You have to move your head while going around wide turns. There’s also a pretty big recall on the passenger airbag. Free fix obviously. Interesting note, I deliver pizza like 3 days a week for 5 years, one of my coworkers has the same car just an 08. His has 160k miles. The weather lining between the car and the windshield on the drivers side is peeling off on both cars. Both cars have a small bubble rust spot in the same exact place inside the driver rear tire well. Maybe those are the design flaws? All in all, cars been good to me. It’s not a nice car, it’s not a fun car, but it’s easy to drive, light, and good for any young person. I can’t believe I’m still driving it 12 years later. I thought I’d only have it for 3 lol

The automatic transmission went out on my 2008 Civic at 185k miles. Other than that my biggest complaint is poor rearward visibility. I'm 6' and would not be able to see an object or child behind my vehicle when backing up. For shorter people it would be even worse. Parallel parking is scary because it is hard tell how close you are to the car behind you when backing in. Naturally a rear view camera ameliorates this problem but it wasn't a common option back then.

Similar the the housing market, the pandemic/covid 19 increased the price of the cars.
In a healthy market, there would be a lot of choices if a similar car to drive the price down a bit.
In the housing market, a healthy market would have a 6 month reserve, or around 3,000,000 houses for sale in the US at a time. April, the housing market drop down to 500k houses, which is why all houses cost way more then they should right now.
As people start getting back to normal, so will the markets.
It’s predicted that by end of this year or the start of next year things will become somewhat balanced again.

Minor issues in 2009 Civic LX Coupe:
    1. Paint peeling on drive and passenger doors only (covered peeling paint with plastidip so peeling won’t spread and it kinda matches the car paint lol)
    2. Sun visor falling
    3. Engine mount (broke twice 😔)
    4. Replaced starter - sister kept holding start on key when she turned on and it burned the starter :’L
Other than that car is running fine at 120k miles. Will probably go to 400k. Car feels new and I get compliments about the car looking good : )

Wanted to buy a Honda HRV. Parked our 2010 Civic next to it, took it for a test drive and decided to keep our hatchback. Roomy, comfortable, economical, nippy, no issues so far. Jeremy Clarkson rubbished our model on Top Gear but we are very happy with it:)

My 2008 is going great at 170k miles. Like new still. No major repairs, just standard maintenance.

Does your engine sound different when you need a valve adjustment. I have a 2010 civic with 143000 miles and never had a valve adjustment.

From my undestanding, cracked engine block is an issue with US-built R18A1 (for US market) but not an issue with R18A2 which is built in Britain (for European market) despite being very, very similar if not identical engine.

Had a 2006 civic hybrid that I drove for 14 years. Great car only had to replace the hybrid battery at 200 thousand. The rest of replacements were 12v battery and spark plugs . The car was wrecked ( some one t boned me) and still got $4100 from the insurance company. Like I said Great car!!!

I have a 2006 and now I know why the airbag lite is always on. I have the bad paint and replaced the sun visors with new ones I bought on Ebay. 16 years, 180,000 miles and still going strong.

I have a 2008 5 speed it is absolutely the best vehicle I have ever driven. Sun visor is the only issue. Car is driven daily at 85-95 mph and still gets excellent gas milage.

Bought mine in 2017 with 144k it has 256k now and still going strong. I have thrown 1000s of dollars of parts at it though 🙃. Fuel pump, starter, alternator, struts, motor mounts, clutch kit twice, valve adjustment, spark plugs, throttle body, brake calipers, cmc and slave twice, etc. If you take care of your maintenance these cars will not fail you.
