This coffee table makeover is perfect for anyone looking to update their furniture on a budget. In this DIY coffee table makeover, I show you how to transform an old and outdated table into a stunning piece of furniture that looks basically brand new. I use sanding, staining, and painting techniques to give the table a fresh, modern look that fit many of todays decor style trends. Materials used include sandpaper, wood stain, paint, paint sprayer, and a sander.
I won this table in an online auction for $15 and used around $10 worth of product on it. I sold it for $150, it took me around 2.5 hours of work time (not including drying) which works out at around $50 profit an hour. I sold it via online auction and the buyer was very happy. It was a great piece to work on as it taught me a few things about refinishing along the way which is an added bonus!

Your baby is gorgeous. He was even talking to you. ❤❤😊
Thank you, I love getting him involved in my videos - great memories!
The end product was beautiful, but the first tabletop accessory you gave us a peek at stole the show!
Excellant job. When you're unsure if it's veneer or not always assume it's veneer, less of problem of burn through.
Great advice, will do! Thank you :)
Great job! i actually liked the glossy finish, it looked really chic. you are awesome! ❤
My advice; buy a 1900 newspaper or a letter, wrap an earring in it, and find it while disassembling furniture. The rating will be great.
Nice job Mate look's great, have a nice day. Brian UK !!!. 😀😃👍👍.
Thanks Brian 👍 You have a nice day too :)
Adorable baby...he's growing fast...oh and coffee table beautiful 🥰👍
He certainly is, hopefully he can help me out soon! Thank you :)
@@flipitnation I'm Totally sure He will ❤️
OMG. I just came back in from the garage where I finished painting/bleaching a solid oak coffee table with rattan center. LOL
Oh haha, thats funny! Rattan is certainly popular! Did you make a video?
NIcely done
Thank you 😊
That looks really nice.
Thank you :)
Very classy! And the cuteness at the end was precious...
Thank you 🙏
You are killing it! Nice job :)
Thanks mate, appreciate that!
Sooo good
Good job! It is so nice to see Stanley tools. I have a very old Stanley hand saw that belonged to my late dad and I treasure it.
That is awesome, I wish I had some tools with sentimental value! Hang on to that!
❤❤❤
Very nice!! Cute baby:-)
Thank you, he is a cutie!
The baby is adorable! Even though I fast forwarded through most of the video (I wasn’t sure where you we’re going with it) ..’the end result was a nice looking coffee table!
He certainly is getting a lot of attention! Thank you :)

Yes, rattan is "so hot right now" in furniture, here in the States too.
Fantastic job you did, not that I expected otherwise!
I could totally hear "so hot right now" in an American accent!
Thank you :)
Watched all your videos in one sitting once I discovered your channel 😍 excited for more
Welcome aboard! I am so pleased you are enjoying my content, thank you :)
I'm so used to hearing American accents that familiar kiwi accent threw me for a loop! I'm a fellow furniture flipper from New Zealand and I am also taking a break from drawers to work on a coffee table
I do wish there were a few more kiwis on TH-cam!! I hope your coffee table is progressing well :) Thank you for tuning in and taking the time to comment!
Hey, California here....looks super! Well, well done!
Hey over there in California! Thank you! :)
Another great video! Informative and concise. Thank you and baby too.
Thank you Kathy, so pleased you enjoyed it!
Looks sharp. Nice work.
And your baby is adorable! Congratulations
Thank you and thank you :)
Just discovered your YT channel and a beginner in the furniture refurbishing game. Really appreciate the tips and tricks you share... and you're a Kiwi. Keep your videos coming!!
Thanks Donna, appreciate you watching! Best of luck with you refurbishing, certainly a learning curve but absolutely very rewarding :)
Love it!! However, the little one steals the show!!!! He is so darn adorable!
I am quickly realising people are coming to see the baby haha
With the wood top, I think the black should have been more flat.
Good job! Looks a million times better. Though I think you should've left the rattan (or whatever its called) natural, I think you would gotten more money for it. But otherwise, "new" (as in not antique) pieces like this are perfect for paint or paint/wood combos.
I did consider it, maybe I will try that next time. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment :)
What part of N.Z. are you from? I'm from Townsville in Nth Queensland Australia.
Oh wow, hot where you are! Love that part of Australia. I am from Christchurch in the South Island, had some snow the last couple of days!
We call that woven part 'cane' in the U.S.
Hate that stuff. It's on the inserts of all my kitchen cabinet doors. Impossible to keep clean. Can't wait to replace those doors.
@@jemase7931 Yes, it's awful. I really hate caned seats on chairs. They break through so easily. Who ever thought of doing that?!?
I also find that on seats it can catch on your clothes and cause pulling. Not a fan either to be honest!
You might get some good money for those doors, haha!
Great result 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Plot twist the baby restored the table
You guessed it!
Swıtched off as soon as I saw the paınt.
That’s the beauty of TH-cam 👍
Teaching the little guy the ropes?
Can't wait to get him involved!
Excellent job on the baby! Excellent job on the table also :) Tips- you can use no scratch scrubbies or 0000 steel wool to knock back a finish that is too shiny or new looking. Remember that YOU are the boss and artist in YOUR shop. If you think the piece needs paint, then you paint it. Jamie Oliver that piece up and Bob's yer uncle. Finally- this guy.. is a wizard. Thomas Johnson has literally taught me so much about repairs and finishes- even though he specializes in restorations of furniture older than our Great grams. www.youtube.com/@johnsonrestoration (sorry, wrong link the first time lol)
Hey, thank you for your kind words and feedback. I really appreciate it, there are certainly lots of opinions out there and I have struggled to find a balance but yes you are right, I should just take the direction I want to! I will watch that channel for sure, love recommendations. I will also add some scrubbies to the shopping list, thank you!! Stay cool :)
