    Nice work, looks really cool. My only small critique is that I generally don't like the paint over wood look, I think letting the natural wood grains show through looks better, so I'd prefer some type of stain rather than a paint. With paint you can't see the natural beauty of the wood, so why even have wood. For me paint makes sense only when the underlying substrate has no natural beauty.

    • @ICatheraTashaI
      @ICatheraTashaI 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. If it's fake wood then I'd paint it, or if it's so beat up that you have to put a lot of filler on it.

      I was ambivalent about refinishing with chalk paint my old pine TV stand which matches my other vintage furnitures, so I guess I would have to refinish it in same pine but modern mat look. Thanks.

    As a mom, I saw a different purpose for that table. They make thin sheets of legos now that would fit perfectly into the indentation of the table top. It’s a shame those are faux drawers. That would have been a great place to store legos. Wicker storage baskets under the table for storage would suffice. 👍

    When doing a project like that, especially where the drawer fronts are a bit sketchy, it's a good idea to bleach the wood, and then hit it with a bit of conditioner prior to staining. The result will be a more uniform, and much less blotchy finish.

    Astonishing. So many beautiful pieces of furniture like this one (that grain on top is just gorgeous) go to the landfill. Whenever I see something on the curb I stop and load it into the truck, and usually people throw away old pieces of furniture that have good bones and just need some TLC to absolutely shine. (Even if it's a piece of crap I check for interesting hardware.)

      It evaporates quickly, but it is very flammable. I will use krud cutter and water now to clean instead because of the fumes. Mineral spirits still works great though!

    Why is the stain Grey? Sorry I'm new to this part of life. Can we do the same thing that you did to the feet to the top, color them white and no stain? Do we have to use something after we color like a finish or something to make the paint durable?

    • @FurnitureFlippa

      I applied stain over grey paint once it was dry, not wet. this is called antique glazing using a wood stain! Wipe it on then wipe it off!

    I know you decided against getting new hardware for this project, but if you ever do need to get new hardware, I use a company called optimum brasses. They do loads of dif antique replacements, all lost was casted etc. Decent heavy quality stuff rather than these aluminium knock offs we see alot of recently. 😀 just subbed, will defo be watching more.

    I am starting flipping pieces can I ask when do you know to sand or not to sand. I grew up sanding everything right down to bare wood?

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Beth! When using penetrating stains you want to sand down to bare wood. When painting you don't have to sand down to bare wood, you sand to remove the old finish and to create a better surface for the paint to adhere to!

    Mineral spirits will clean but it will leave an oily residue. You can use liquid deglosser or acetone to remove any dust / residues without the oily residuals. They also evaporate/ dry quickly
