  • These are the first ThyssenKrupp Twin Elevators in North America, and they do use the AGILE system (not DSC as advertised as of 2019). Apparently this is also one of the first videos featuring the new TK logo.
    These are absolutely beautiful elevators!
    This also is a few firsts for me when it comes to elevators:
    *First DESTINATION DISPATCH elevator (I've seen the system at Swissotel in Chicago, but I didn't ride it)
    *First ThyssenKrupp Twin Elevator
    *First ThyssenKrupp Elevator with Atoll Fixtures
    Building Tours:
    coda.gatech.edu/coda-building...
    ATTENTION: there is NO negativity in this video! ALL internal statements were supposed to be for humor, not disrespect.
    BIG Thank You to the staff and engineers at CODA for arranging this tour!
    MAJOR Kudos to ThyssenKrupp! This is an AWESOME elevator! Hope to see more installations in the future. We are PATIENTLY waiting for MULTI...
    INFORMATION: This place is RESTRICTED. Do not attempt to access this location (floors above 2) without proper clearance. My parents knew individuals at GTRI, which is how the tour was arranged. Also, management seems to be offering limited tours for those interested. Please visit coda.gatech.edu/coda-building...

    00:00 Introduction
    00:34 TWIN with AGILE Traction Main Elevators

    There's a non-zero chance the parking elevators may have been Evolution 200 (highly unlikely, albeit possible), but I have yet to confirm this (more info coming soon!!).
    Elevator Information:
    Manufacturer: TK Elevator
    External Fixtures: AGILE Destination Dispatch Display (Main), MAD BS / Vandal Resistant (Parking)
    Internal Fixtures: MAD Atoll (Main), MAD BS / Vandal Resistant (Parking)
    Model: Twin (Main), Synergy?? (Parking)
    Operating Motor: Traction
    Serves Floors 1-21 (Main), P5-2 (Parking)
    Traffic Management: Floors 13-21 access on Floor 2, upper car. System uses destination dispatch.
    GA State ID: E271665 [Car P3 Upper]

    How does this differ from having double-deck elevators? Are there pros and cons of twin elevators?

    • @elevatorsof14s
      @elevatorsof14s  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a really good question! It is important to note the differences between the two.
      On a double deck elevator, you have two elevator cabins *structurally* attached to each other. Effectively, you have one single elevator with two cabs, all driven by one, single rope system. Each of these two cabs always serve the floors right next to each other, often separating between odd and even floors. Sometimes, these two cars may have a "scissor mechanism" (often seen in warehouse shelf lifts) that adjust if the two adjacent floor heights change through the building. Double-deck elevators work very well as express elevators serving a "skylobby" floor, seen in many tall skyscrapers. This has the benefit of efficient use of building space to increase local capacity, but still requires some banks to be split into high-rise and low-rise. You'd still have 6 elevators going to the same floors, but with twice the room. Think as if they made an elevator bigger, just instead of a bigger cab, they attached another cab to it. Additionally, this system can use both standard elevator buttons and controls, or it could use "destination dispatch" as seen in this video.
      On a twin elevator (currently only produced by TKE), there is a bit more flexibility. Here, you have two *independent* elevators operating in the same shaft. One elevator could be on floor 1, and the other car could be on floor 15 at the same time. This allows effectively 11 elevator cars in the shaft of 6 (one car, by design cannot be a twin for safety purposes). Instead of making a single elevator bigger, you effectively overlapped two elevators that could serve different floors. In this example, the lower cars are programmed to prioritize calls to lower floors, and the upper car is programmed to prioritize calls to upper floors. Low-rise and high-rise calls also use a different floor despite being on the same bank. This is a very efficient system, but is FAR more costly to a building owner than a double-deck. Additionally, destination dispatch MUST be used for both efficient operation and safety, so that the two cars don't crash into each other (that'd be bad!)! Another major downside comes with maintenance. If one elevator is out of service, it has the potential to take _two_ elevators out of service.
      Engineers must make careful decisions on the costs and benefits that each system has.
      These systems could theoretically be used interchangeably, especially in tall buildings.

      @@elevatorsof14s Woww!!!!! Great to know!! How are elevators smart enough to either not get too close to one another and not collide in the same shaft?

    • @elevatorsof14s
      @elevatorsof14s  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StephenPhillips This is a computerized safety system, believe it or not! First of all, the destination dispatch system is designed to not route elevator cars that would result in a collision. Second, if this were to somehow glitch, two means of floor positioning are used (tape and barcode). This floor-positioning data is sent to the computer, and if the cars get too close, it will shut the elevator's motors off and stop the cars... this is supposed to be EXCEEDINGLY rare, and I'm not aware of any major reports of this happening (it might have idk...)
      I could possibly have some of this information mistaken, but based on my information on TK twin, this is what they use. ✅

    Oh wait no way that's so dope! I'm actually a current GT student and skyscraper/elevator aficionado myself (also have ridden these elevators a few times for some study sessions), didn't realize these are the first twin ThyssenKrupp elevators!! I'll have to record a video of myself going up the top floors at some point, there's a nice sky lobby at the top where some GT students will study sometimes, really pretty views!

    I got only one complaint for this elevator installation... Why did they go with the generic red LED floor indicator instead of a more high-tech modern LCD indicator or screen? Also I guess they no longer do blue for their indicator colors anyone and Signa4 (AKA new Arroua) is no longer made.
