The Omnitrix isn’t that Inconsistent, it’s just that there are different types of Omnitrix that Ben had, the Prototype which was in the original. The Ultimatrix and the Final One in Omniverse
tha idea could be taken for a lot of possible scenarios: - someone having a H-Dial that only lets you select existent heroes, BUT LETS YOU SELECT THE HERO - Someone, instead of transforming into a hero, POSESSES the Hero (although this one would need to at least have a B-List hero killed so they learn that, yeah, they didn't transform, they possesed the person) - a little girl basically becoming shazam! but with wonder woman and sometimes doing things that humilliate wondy's public image, but she just wants to be as good as her - a trnasgender woman gets to become wonder woman, AND her biological gender without surgery and such, AND with powers to boot. - an extremist feminist becomes wonderwoman and starts imposing her version of gender equality unto others
I love this concept and I'm a fan of the 2012 and 2003 series. The 2012 version was interesting for the weirdness and the backstory (though I'm ok with the H-dial being unknown in origin); best issue was issue 6 because of what can go wrong with the concept. Looking back on the 2003 series, I think what made it appealing was that I felt they were mostly believable people with mundane lives affected by the dial. I think the inconsistencies can work. Why not have different model or variations? Like how there are a variety of cellphones models since the first inception.
I would like that ALSO the inconsistencies vary depending of how broken or recent the dial H, with the antagonist of the stoy having the most recent thatlets you trnasform at will, the power you want, and or how long you want, BU the only catch is the memories thing, AND that it takes you long to transform
@@ianr.navahuber2195 That can work. it would imply that the dial can be replicated and that whomever is manufacturing it is constantly improving. it can also be a metaphor for any kind of improvement. Another would be to fill a void; An truth to the DC universe and multiverse is that heros tend to show up, so what if somebody realised and created the dials to fill the void, so there can always be a hero when needed?

I found this piece of gear through fan fiction originally. It went through this phase where it seemed to be really popular in the Teen Titans fanbase, really cool piece of kit... One thing, I seem to remember that in some of the earlier comics you could rig the gender of the summoned hero by typing 'HEROINE' into the dial and that 'MONSTER' made the person turn into a nightmarishly powerful being with no self control... Am I misremembering or were they simply not significant uses?
One of the funniest stories from the 2003 H-E-R-O story involves this sexist schlubby man who gets stuck as a female superheroine and can’t revert back.
I assume it got popular in the Teen Titans fan base because one appeared in the Teen Titans Go! (2004-2008) comics based on the original TV show. A little kid uses one that steals powers from a nearby hero. Probably the funniest was when Robin somehow got his acrobatic skills stolen even though that's not really a power

Ben 10 would make a good DC character, be a tad weird to see Ben interact with somebody using the H-Dial, considering how heavily Ben 10 is based on Dial-H.
that is REAL cool I'd love to see/hear more of those OTHER dials...including what would happen if you tried to combine them, for example... could you jump while hero? could you be a hero AND a sidekick at the same time? etc...
Years ago I got I to Ben 10 and did some research to find out about Dial H for Hero and loved it too. Wish it got more attention than the same old spandex usually see.
In case anyone forgot. Ben 10 was originally supposed to be a watch that turned ben into 10 different super heroes. However, keep in mind with these two stories' concepts, one is not based off the other.
I remember find this in the back of an old Superboy comic my uncle had. I always thought the idea was to give a place for all the OC superheros fans always sent in. If its not, man is that a missed opportunity. I'm looking forward to the new series at the very least.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the version I grew up with where all the Heroes dialed up came from fans. I sent in a couple ideas myself, but they were never used. I LOVED this series as a kid.
Hey, Drake! I had...never heard about this series before! I can definitely see where Ben 10 probably got some inspiration from this series... It almost reminded me of the Wonder Twins with the endless possiblities angle (yes, yes, I know, no one likes to talk about them, but...yeah). This seems like a comic writer's dream, though. You wouldn't have to really worry about continunity errors, because hey, a new hero just appears! It's definitely an OP device (like the Lazy Shell in Mario: Legend of the Seven Stars), but at least it seems entertaining. Thanks for the video!
Or V-I-L-E. That said, I think it's done deliberately in the book because they actually think to try dialing up a villain but can't get it to work because the code is so obscure.

I know Ben 10 already capitalized on the whole ''turn into a random hero'' gimmick, but I'd love to see DC make a show or cartoon about Dial H.
I am a big fan of Dial H For Hero so really enjoyed this video. One thing I was dissapointed in, is although I get this wasn't a user by user history of the Dials, you completely skipped the run in Adventure Comics, one of the longest runs in terms of issues used if you count their time as backup on Superboy. You did mention the Chris King changing without being able to control it, that happened later on with that character but wish you had used some artwork from it. Not to mention Vicky Grant was one of the few female Hero Dialers (and easily the one with the longest tenure) and tied into both Hero Crus dial and Chris King's storyline. Again, just a nitpick since that was my favorite Dial H For Hero run. You did a good job with the video. Really enjoyed it.
One of my favorites out of DC growing up... Although I wish you would have spent a little more time with the backstory of why Dial H for hero was created. I haven't read all the comments, butt dial H for hero was originally created as a way for Comic fans to interact with the comics themselves. Every month DC allowed anyone to submit a drawing of a hero and a description of their powers, and then entries chosen at random would be put into the stories. I spent countless hours thinking up Heroes and sending them in to DC, almost a hundred in total. Good Times...
I loved that run of Dial H For Hero, but should be noted that was the second version of Dial H For Hero. They were originally created in House of Mystery as one guy and did not have the fan interaction part. The one you are thinking of was a spin-off of sorts of that. Although it did reference it a couple times.
Actually Elemental HEROes was made like a mix of DC and Marvel. Destiny HEROes is based on British kind of HEROes. Masked HEROes is based on Kamen Rider (Masked Rider). Vision HEROes I really don't know. Also Xtra HEROes. But with Xtra seems more like a mix with any kind of Hero concept. Contrast is basically Masked HERO. So Ben 10 is the only thing that maybe have that inspiration of it. The only one that might be it of Yu-Gi-Oh of E HEROes is Prisma. But it have nothing with a Dial. It's a humanoid Crystal.
What happens if instead of dialing Hero you just dial a specific name like Superman. It seems like that would eliminate the random element of the dial and allow you to turn into the same hero every single time.
Now to make comparisons on the other side, Ben ten originally became big chill at roughly the same time that the leader of big chill's home planet had died, and those powers to Ben include breathing in space so news flash, the omnitrix is as non continuous as the dials XD
So it's like having the Shazam power but a little bit better if you're lucky enough. Imagine dialing the device and turning into either Batman, Superman, Doomsday or Darkseid lol.
Wow I remember this comic book lol was one my favorite from 80s I didn't know that they still have them about I'll need to get back in to it now thanks for the memories

Power terms There’s literally nothing better than the omnitrix considering that according to deep lore it’s a sentient machine with literally limitless power and even when a omnitrix is taken off or destroyed it has pre predicted that another will make it to Ben and he’ll win somehow
Escanor Lion Sin of Pride The difference with that is that Ben 10 is basically the equivalent of a child saying infinite+1 because no matter how strong his enemies are the creators have just made it so no matter what he wins
Ben 10 is literally the absolute strongest fictional character ever... Superman vs goku? Try ben 10 vs every alien character in every comic, manga, cartoon, anime, movie, game, and book eve..now that's a battle i'd like to see
Ok Ben 10 vs Giorno Giovanna. Giorno's human and therefore cannot be copied I think? (pretty much saying give Ben any human with strong enough spiritual powers based on soul or something like that) One round with and without access to Alien X.
@@kaedenle I said any ALIEN and of course he can't fight a stand unless he had his own...oh my...if Ben had a stand it would be the exact same thing as his omnitrix he could just turn into other people's stands I'm a genius!
All I didnt see that. But still just get any character that bases their powers on some personal or spiritual power. It's not intrinsically based on biology and it'd be impossible to copy.
I love the Dial H concept and series. I wonder why it’s not used more in DC media? It’s almost always absent from the comics and has never been featured in any multimedia adaptations despite the potential.
Oh yeah, I heard of this. I read somewhere that you could type 'horror' into the original dial to...I think it turned you into some kind of monstrosity? Anyway, that was done because some character was misusing the 4 letter dial.

In my youth I read the Chris King Victoria Grant Dial H for Hero stories and wasn't aware until later that Robbie Reed predated them. When I read it, the superheroes came from fans. You could submit yours by mail and (big maybe) see them appear in a future issue. This went on for awhile, but I got the feeling the writer felt frustrated at having to limit stories to characters submitted by readers. They weren't exactly always winners, but I found that to be part of the fun. Also Carmine Infantino was the artist for much of that run and his frenetic style was just glorious to me at the time. Seemed like his pencils were a rush job, but that gave the pages an energy that was thrilling even when the stories themselves were sometimes lackluster. Then some years later I was reading New Teen Titans and Chris King showed up saying Victoria Grant had gone insane. The ending for that was disappointing and I assumed that was just how DC decided to put Dial H For Hero to bed. Didn't realize they were wanting to completely reboot and retool the idea. This video does not encourage me to go down that rabbit hole any further. The H Dial had training wheels on it when I was a kid. Now it sounds more like a device designed by insensitive or downright malevolent aliens pranking humans with their own avarice and corruption. I remember when I read that Wolfman Infantino series in Adventure Comics, thinking some of the characters briefly used might have been fun in their own series. Sounds like these more recent incarnations the writer designs the heroes the characters turn into, which kinda takes the wind out of the sails of this franchise for me. "All good things.." I suppose.
Transformation based powers are some of my favorite powers ever since I was a kid. Kamen Rider set it up for me, Ben 10 made me fall in love with that power set the most. Cause what is the coolest power to have? All of them!
Bruh this would make a awesome DCEU film. Imagine the main character finding this dial and using it to turn into all new original heroes. Or better yet, they could turn into some of the weirder and craziest characters from earlier on the comics!

It was a fun concept back in the day, before they had to overpower things like always. I remember once in the original series someone used the old-school hero dial to dial horror!!
DC comics presents No. 44, April cover date in 1982: Chris King dialed horror and became an orange monster with green head, neck .and wings. However inside issue had green head no neck and gray body and wings.
This also appeared in the 2003 Teen Titans Comics (...ironically called “Teen Titans Go” but I digress...) The Character is a kid named Robby Reed. He discoverd an amulet which grants him superpowers temporarily which he would later use the powers to fight crime, though he accidentally disrupted other Titans when doing so by borrowing their powers such as that of Beast Boy’s & Kid Flash’s. He realized this after being approached by the Titans. He then decided not to use the amulet any longer BUT agreed to join Cyborg's training program for New Titan Recruits. A kid happened to find one in a cave, a man found one as an old payphone, they have a tendency to just appear out of nowhere. So the rules for the H Dial are inconsistent? That ALSO sounds like Ben 10.

tha idea could be taken for a lot of possible scenarios:
- someone having a H-Dial that only lets you select existent heroes, BUT LETS YOU SELECT THE HERO
- Someone, instead of transforming into a hero, POSESSES the Hero (although this one would need to at least have a B-List hero killed so they learn that, yeah, they didn't transform, they possesed the person)
- a little girl basically becoming shazam! but with wonder woman and sometimes doing things that humilliate wondy's public image, but she just wants to be as good as her
- a trnasgender woman gets to become wonder woman, AND her biological gender without surgery and such, AND with powers to boot.

I can see several explanation outside of keeping the 2012 run. One includes a race that made them for whatever reason and somehow they landed on Earth. Another would be to fill a void; An truth to the DC universe and multiverse is that heros tend to show up, so what if somebody realised and created the dials to fill the void, so there can always be a hero when needed?
........ I think I'd prefer getting an Omnitrix over one of these H-dials. For a number of reasons.... like it being more consistent for one, or actually having a choice in what powers you get (most of the time).
Plus if it not working and u get gray matter u can fix it yourself
Unless your in omniverse
@@neel2793 Actually, it was stated that the Omnitrix Ben has in Omniverse dosen't have the same problem the previous ones did when it came to Ben getting the alien he wanted.... all those misstransformations were his fault.
@Maurice Johnson He said it always seems like that... keyword 'seems'. But Hey, if the Omnitrix AI is able to identify a better alien form for the job at hand then what I had in mind, then I'm probably not going to complain that much.
If I had to choose I would choose omnitrix then turn into heatblast and kill some terrorists
Dial H is criminally underrated. Random characters, random stories, why isn't this an animated or live action series ???

I found this piece of gear through fan fiction originally. It went through this phase where it seemed to be really popular in the Teen Titans fanbase, really cool piece of kit...
One thing, I seem to remember that in some of the earlier comics you could rig the gender of the summoned hero by typing 'HEROINE' into the dial and that 'MONSTER' made the person turn into a nightmarishly powerful being with no self control... Am I misremembering or were they simply not significant uses?
I don't know about the other versions, but I can tell you that neither happened in the Chris & Vicki version, or the China Mièville version.
it was "HORROR", not "MONSTER", but otherwise you remember well.
Any good fics I’m really interested in this?
Imagine dialling HERO expecting to be someone useful and then becoming...

Better yet dial hero becomes Batman and the person the dialed thought Batman had superpowers

Imagine if someone dials H-E-R-O and become magikarp from Pokemon

Ben 10 would make a good DC character, be a tad weird to see Ben interact with somebody using the H-Dial, considering how heavily Ben 10 is based on Dial-H.
I mean warner bros does own cartoon network and there has been some Ben 10 comics published by DC
what a fun concept this is it truly made for a great video
Dials Q-U-E-D to become Kite Man. Hell Yeah!
There's definitely going to end up being some sort of "prime dial" that can dial any of the codes, as long as you know it
that is REAL cool
I'd love to see/hear more of those OTHER dials...including what would happen if you tried to combine them, for example...
could you jump while hero? could you be a hero AND a sidekick at the same time?

No it was always Ailans, I've seen the documentary on the Creator and you can see sketches of what the Ailans were supposed to look like.

I remember find this in the back of an old Superboy comic my uncle had. I always thought the idea was to give a place for all the OC superheros fans always sent in. If its not, man is that a missed opportunity. I'm looking forward to the new series at the very least.
Factoid The 80s series was actually exactly that.
It's at least mildly possible that someone accidentally turned into an Elemental or Destiny Hero type hero at some point. And that is hilarious.
Hey look ma I'm the flame wingman
DC's Dials. Interesting. Don't know why I'm just now hearing about this crazy set of artifacts. These seem pretty cool.
How is it possible they end with Q-U-E-D instead of E-V-I-L?
Or V-I-L-E. That said, I think it's done deliberately in the book because they actually think to try dialing up a villain but can't get it to work because the code is so obscure.
@@rngwrldngnr they coud apply that to future comic. that instead of H-E-R-O yo have to type C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N to get results

@@VanVeniVidiVici IIRC, there are some mental effects which can be resisted, but in the case of the comic, the main reason it was so important was because the dial they had at the time could only dial villains, so the codes they knew didn't work.

I feel like I have even more questions that I could have possibly have anticipated when I first saw this video...
Marvels strongest weapons: Infinity gauntlet (with infinity stones)
DC's strongest weapons: Phone Dial (with numbers)
Thanos: Am I a joke to you?
Darkside: I'm not using this pathetic piece of junk, I'm a god for god sakes.
Darkside is just made he dial hero and got the powers of some guy who can put a color spot on a wall.
I loved the New 52 Dial H series and I really like the new Dial H comic. I hope this series gets popular enough to be mainstream, mainly because the whole concept is fun as hell. I know Ben 10 already capitalized on the whole ''turn into a random hero'' gimmick, but I'd love to see DC make a show or cartoon about Dial H.
You dial HERO and you just get a bat costume and 100 million dollars
Replace that M with a B and you are a bit closer
Man that was pretty cool. Wish they would use it more often.
God bless DC. They figured out AI-generators before they were cool.
YESSS! This is my favorite DC series!
What I'd give for a legit Dial H adaptation that isn't Ben 10. It's such a fun concept.
or at least a crossover between the 2. given warner bros ows Carton network and DC is a wonder why they have't tried to do a crossover
This would be the best tv show out of any dc property, they could go dystopian and make it fucked up. Diffferent person with the dial every episode.

What happens if instead of dialing Hero you just dial a specific name like Superman. It seems like that would eliminate the random element of the dial and allow you to turn into the same hero every single time.
Most versions have limited letters so you can't just type in anything you want.
Now to make comparisons on the other side, Ben ten originally became big chill at roughly the same time that the leader of big chill's home planet had died, and those powers to Ben include breathing in space so news flash, the omnitrix is as non continuous as the dials XD

"Inconsistent" I guess this guy has never compared any jojo arc

This also appeared in the 2003 Teen Titans Comics (...ironically called “Teen Titans Go” but I digress...)
The Character is a kid named Robby Reed.

I remember reading it as a kid and at that time the selling point was "Hero's Created By You." Yep, in the 70's DC had kids sent in there hero designs and the creative team would decide which ones they would use. They uses a few each story, Even if it was in one panel.
I might do a whole history in the future oh, but for this particular show oh, it's just a rundown of abilities and other stats.
