I like to think that the Azrael Batsuit was intentionally created to be so 90' to represent everything that Batman should not be and how mentally unstable Azrael was.
Nx57ytre actually the entire storyline was meant to shut up all the people who wanted Batman to start killing criminals, by showing them how terrible that would be.

Exactly! The thing everyone leads up is that at this same time Bruce got a costume that was the exact opposite: loose cloth and a traditional chinese mask. Eventually it came to a fight of Batman vs. Batman and Jean Paul found out how he basically just uses his power armor as a crutch, and its ineffectiveness is even used when batman gets him stuck between rocks in it.

The Azreal Bat suit meant to parody the other over the top 90s characters at the time. At the end of the story, there is a very clever deconstruction of the suit when Bruce defeats Azreal with his own suit.
Still love the" AzBat " suit though. Imo one of the best redesigns ever till Knights End happened and the costume just kept getting bulkyer and ugly.
Roger Payne I liked the way the suit kept on getting upgraded, it added a new dynamic to Knightsquest, which definitely needed something new going on

Porn isn't fun and softcore porn sure as hell isn't either. Fan service is fucking annoying, not only does it take away a good portion of the story and fills it with boobs but it becomes so distracting after awhile. I can't take a behemoth of a dude wearing nothing but tighties or a woman barely wearing anything at all seriously in most circumstances. If I wanted porn I'd just watch porn.
It was an AWESOME time and I wish we could go back and yeah, to those who aren't uptight, crazy, fundamentalists or feminists... porn is fun as are stories about power and hot girls in skimpy clothes.

Holy shit the Captain America power armor was real!I saw it ONCE back in middle school and NEVER saw a reference to it again I thought I was dreaming.Can we get more info on that please?
Was that when Cap's super soldier serum became like poison, he needed Stark built armor to even let him stand. He ended up in a fight that left him like jello in his suit, then we see the Red Skull reviving him from a block of ice.

That armor actually made perfect sense; the super soldier serum had begun deteriorating, causing Captain America to slowly lose his physical prowess and well, slowly die. It was actually a really well-written and poignant storyline.
Didn't Booster Gold's power suit replace his old one because Doomsday destroyed the old suit and current technology was nowhere near the future suit's tech? And Blue Beetle tried his best.

I don't remember Extreme Justice. I always thought that he got a new set of future armor.
From what I an find out, the power suit that is referenced in the video is basically the same look, but a slight upgrade where Blue Beetle can take over the suit if (or more likely when) Booster gets knocked out. The writers intended it to be bad armor, according to what I can find online.
Eventually Professor Hamilton used the original suit and Superman's "Blue Electricity" containment suit to make a new suit that was as close to Booster's original as possible. After he switches from the Supernova suit back to his original suit, it gets unclear if it's the Hamilton design or another future suit.
However, I am trusting what I can find online and you know how ify that can be. Still, as far as I can tell, the Blue Beetle designs were the big and bulky looking ones and never anywhere as powerful as his original.
It waa life support armor. In the justice league international run of comics he loses his arm and is essentially killed. Ted kord builds the power armor for him to keep him alive until the monarch, who isnt hank hall but rather is captain atom ( its then revealed the captain atom we know is actually a clone of thw original who is now monarch), gives him a new arm and heals his body allowing him to use a new suit built using alien technology obtained during extreme justice. The new suit has skeets uploaded into it.
Lore wise that might be the reason but you gotta always remenber that they are real people and this never really happened
Everything in fiction is made with an intent and this was just a way to explain the redesign
Regarding AzBats. It's been stated by those that worked on the book, that the point of that costume, was to show that 90s EXTREME mentality wouldn't work with Batman. It makes it a lot more endearing, when you take that into account.
I don't get why people didn't like the Nightwing red outfit. It's literally the exact same look with just a different color.
Hannibal Rasberry i guess it reminds them of the batman and robin movie. Or it is just a preverence of blending in vs contrast, with blue blending in and red as a striking contrast. To me both work just fine, though for a vigilante hiding in the dark i would say the blue is more practical.
Hannibal Rasberry I don’t hate the red version of the Nightwing costume, but I think that the black and blue outfit looks a lot cooler. I don’t know why, it just looks better.
I disliked it because red is Jason Todd’s colour now. The warmer blue sort of depicts Dick Grayson’s purity & his status as Batman’s perfect heir. The red of Jason is meant to show how much more violent he is in dispensing justice.
Nightwing’s costume was only made red for a really bad attempt at ‘rule of cool’ as well.

Hannibal Rasberry I dislike the color scheme of New 52 Nightwing because of the fact that Red and Black color scheme is actually Jason Todd and Tim Drake’s color schemes after they became Red Hood and Red Robin.
When I clicked on WORST '90s comic costumes I expected a two hour video.
I actually REALLY like the idea of Wolverine going feral being inevitable, but his adamantium put it on hold. There's some continuity errors, sure, but look at Sabertooth...
It would of made a bit more sense if it happened after his attempts to bring the adamantium back

You know what, everyone always talks about the bad things that happened with comics in the 90s. I think it'd be cool if you highlight so of the good that happened in the 90s.

My highlight from the 90's is the creation of Image, then again I'm biased because i like Spawn.
I can say one thing about them for sure, they've gotten leages better since then
2099 and scarlet spider's (ben reily) first costume were fucking great
It wasn't all bad. We had Hellboy,Spawn,Bone,Cavewoman, Liberty Meadows and Danger Girl among others. Image and Dark Horse also got their start in the 90s. But so many comics were trying to Hotter&Sexier or edgy similar to many Golden Age and/or Bronze Age comics without truly comprehending what made them work. Take Vampirella for one.Sure,she wore mainly dental floss,but her stories were well written. As compared to most Bad Girl Art of the 90s who couldn't hold a candle. Anyway,most but not all comic titles of the 90s were about being collectors items with style over substance and overly rendered coloring.

There was actually a reason for Booster Gold's "super awesome" power armor: the original costume was destroyed by Doomsday during the Death of Superman and the armor was built by Blue Beetle. Then, he lost an arm and died (kinda-sorta, he was put in stasis), but after awhile, he got a new armor based off of Superman's blue containment suit.

Anyone that read the death of superman would know that. I'm sure it's one thing to not like the modern armor but he acts like there was no reason for the change.
Honestly the fact that the boob window sue storm suit is so ridiculously over the top fan service is what makes me love it so much.
Superman's black suit actually had a purpose. He had come back from the dead and wasn't at full power. The black suit works like a solar panel type thing to help Superman "recharge" faster since he is powered by the sun.
The Thing costume is actually a reference to an older costume he wore in like 1 issue during the 60s before he just ripped it off.
also. that helmet is there because he had gotten his face badly scarred in a brawl
I think that was in FF #3, which I actually owned. Some kid (me) ripped the back cover, so I didn't get $5000 for it.
I'm surprised you didn't cover the FOUR costumes Spider-Man came up with during the Identity Crisis storyline where he was accused of murder. These suits being known as Ricochet, Hornet, Dusk and Prodigy.
Probably because those costumes had identity. You can tell what the wearer's personality was just from looking at it. Plus the story was actually good and entertaining.
I actually really liked Night Wings Red Insignia from the New 52. Don’t get me wrong, I prefer the Blue but I did like the Red one as well. The one thing I wished they kept after Night Wing got his Blue Insignia back was his Bat spiked gauntlets. To me, it makes perfect sense that Dick Grayson would adopt Batman style gauntlets as a functional part of his suit and also because I think it looks badass!
I liked the Electric Superman costume. The idea was interesting and the chance to explore evolving powers and new weaknesses is interesting to me. I feel it even had a bit of prestige to it since the design was reused to help contain the Strange Visitor's powers and it was later used by Livewire when she became a hero. It's definitely better than the trunksless versions of the Classic Outfit that are being used now.

Superman Blue isn't a bad costume design IMHO. It's not good for him, but it works just fine for an energy/electricity hero. I also have a soft spot in my heart for mullet Supes. (I like long hair on a man, I can't help it.)

How about all the Liefeld costumes from the 90s in stuff like Youngblood? What with the overabundance of random ammo pouches and... cyborg earmuffs ;P
100% its own video... just 15 minutes of staring open-mouthed and going "Why??????" And not to mention, how?? Cos I mean... those ladies with their thighs full of hilarious rings of Brown Leather Pouches... those things are falling down to their ankles the moment they move. Especially considering the body ratios on those abominations.
Liefeld was horrible, not only was he bad at adding random pouches everywhere, he was just a bad artist in general with no sense aesthetics or anatomy. even worse when he essentially had his own comic label full of marvel knock offs.
Ah. Liefeld designs. More pouches! More random straps! Glowing eyes! Weapons which in no way, shape or form make sense or look anything close to functional in this or any other reality! Rob has a lot to answer for.
Half the shit in this video was Liefield or starter-up artists that fell in line with his insane ass designs.
*I actually miss the sexy, flamboyant, and out there of the old designs made superheroes seem more over the top.* We can all agree it's better than normalizing them into forever 21 clothing that only resembles the costume in color scheme.

Depends on who. I like the "normal" outfit look on some heroes (Beast Boy, Luke Cage, Gambit) but normal clothes on Superman or Batman always feels wrong unless they didn't have time to change.
Jordan DeHart Well yeah, I guess it makes sense you'd prefer it on them, cause that's what they were inventrd or aestheticized as wearing or suiting. It doesnt make as much sense for other characters you follow because they weren't exactly made to look that way.
I agree some of my favorite coustumes like classic spider-man captain america moon knight are bright and over the top. Iconic colorful coustumes all the way.

That version of Superman looks like he wanted a cool new outfit and then he saw Punisher on the street and stole his suit just to make a few adjustments

I kind of preferred Wonder Woman's black biker gang costume. Also I didn't mind Booster Gold's New 52 costume but I can't believe you forgot the incredible Bag Man that Spider-Man had to be when he was going back home and had to wear a bag over his head

With wolverine I think it was due to the pain of having his adamantium ripped out.
Well Secondary Mutations became a big thing a couple of years later (or maybe it was then, honestly I dropped out of X-Men in the early 90s and back in with Morrison's run), so it may have been that, held back previously by the bonding process and kicked into gear by the trauma. I mean how many different looks have Beast had by now?
Sacremas well beast had the one with his feet and hands then he took that serum that transformed him into the beastlike dude then he had another mutation which he transformed into a more feral lion like form and i dont know anymore
I found Logan losing his adamantium an interesting character study. The whole thing about Logan becoming more feral, wasn't on account of the loss of his adamantium. Stick told Logan that was HIMSELF all along! The adamantium ripped from his body shook him up to the core! He gave up on himself, and that what made him become more animalistic. The trauma he suffered made him feel like he had no use to the x-men. Even after helping them save the world from aliens, he STILL didn't rejoin. He was able to realize this, and re-found himself. Oh, the Man-beast look? His healing factor was more powerful without his adamantium...it was slowing it down. The man-beast look was regressing slowly back to normal due to the healing factor.
The Super Mullet is the most glorious thing ever beheld by the eyes of man.

I actually enjoyed the Wonder Woman storyline. Mike Deodato Jr's spectacular artwork was the main reason why. I still like Black Widow, Hank Pym & Hawkeye's outfits during "The Crossing" story.
A good 90s coustume change would be ben rileys spider-man coustume. It is different but keeps enough of the classic design to have him easily recnozible as spider-man.

NGL a glam-rock Asgard theme does sound like a thinking I want to see more of
maybe tone down the he-man straps over unitard a little tho (pick one).
New costumes, even ones that are ultimately meant to be temporary, are a tricky thing to do since it has to be different from the old costume otherwise what's the point of changing it, but usually there still needs to be some familiar element to the old costume for the sake of recognition. Doing this and finding something that still looks good is not as easy as it sounds. Often times the best ones, or at least more accepted ones, are more similar to the original, just a variation of it's design, but there have been some that are much bigger changes from the previous design that are still well liked.
That version of Susan Storm was actually the first version I came across. And Ben's helmet at least had good reasoning behind it, since he was horribly scarred by Wolverine.
As a 90s kid I still love Black Suit Superman, Mullet Supes, and the Azrael suit.

First thing that pops to mind when talking about bad 90s redesigns (that aren't on this list) are probably the Wasp's mutant look (after her "rebirth") and Daredevil's weird 90s armor.
I remember the Superman Blue comic the cover said "Ready for the 21st Century", it didn't stick around long enough for it!

Daredevil’s stupid daggum armor is truly one of the dumbest things. Imagine giving bulky armor to to someone whose whole thing is unmatched agility. I hate it.

I can't tell if Azrael's Xtreme2DaMax suit was a brilliant takedown of the edgy characters that dressed like that and why they don't work with batman, since that was the point of the story or it was luck and they just made a design that aged horribly.

It was weird because Cyclops over at Marvel was sporting a similar costume around the same time when he got the Phoenix Force in Avengers vs XMen

I love the 90s version of the disco suit, but what would make it perfect though is if they made the collar section light blue, give it a bit of v neck, and put his symbol on the belt to better mirror the original. It's also surprisingly tame given the time it came out and I wish we could get more renditions of it.

Yup, Nightwing current costume is probably one of the best designed costumes.
Drake, I agree with all you said except about Superman and Guy Gardner. Superman Blue's suit couldn't have been designed better, though the power set was generic. It also allowed for a human Clark Kent when his electric powers weren't employed. His mullet was never an issue to me, I thought it looked good on him. Guy Gardner Warrior was also interesting, though perhaps he could have been tweaked in appearance. I wouldn't mind if his Warrior persona returned.

The thing about Logan's mutation into a feral state is that the Professor's reasoning behind his whole adamantium theory was made before Wolverine had a concrete backstory to fall on.
At that point, Logan's past was still a mishmash of memories and no one knew what was true or false.
So in that context, as nonsensical as the Prof's explanation was in terms of science (even comic book science), you can't really use his true past as a counterargument considering it wasn't clearly defined to anyone until well over a decade later.
If I had been a Superman artist in the 90's, I would have put him in a mullet, a pair of blue, red and yellow Speedos with a strategically placed S logo and little else.

Large shoulder pads, oversized guns, and one glowing eye were the worst 90's trends in comics.
Eeeeh... If my memory does serve me right, Blue Beatle made that powerarmor to Booster because his own armor was completely destroyed beyond repair "with the modern day equipment" so Booster could play super hero again. So that is why bulkiness of that armor let alone existence never bothered me that much. Booster didn't have easy access to any original booster gold access repair kits anyway.

Honestly, the Bat-Azrael costume is such an iconic and memorable costumes for me. I remember being really stoked to see it when I started collecting comics at the age of 8 or 9. Sure, it’s over-designed, but I love that about it, it feels theatrical. But also, I feel like it was the perfect amalgam between the design of Batman and Azrael’s costumes.

What was wrong with the red Nightwing costume
Blue on black while on night missions represents stealth and puts the "night" in Nightwing; Red on black during any missions represents obvious target and puts the bullet in Nightwing.
Tabor Pyhala nothing, I just like the black and blue one. But I don’t get the hatred for the costume, in fact I liked it when Damian Wayne used red in the Nightwing costume for the Injustice universe, I just didn’t like the longer hair, Damian Wayne just doesn’t look right if he doesn’t have short spiky hair. But if for some reason in the main universe Damian Wayne does become Nightwing, I would get behind him wearing the black and red outfit. But for Dick Grayson they should just stick to the black and blue outfit we all love.
how about 90's Daredevil?
I actually love that 90s Wonder Woman and the story it was featured in but wish it was more of an alternative universe story where she is a heavy metal rocker Wonder Woman which would have made the look fit where in the story, she just changed cloths that had Wonder Woman W on it even though she was trying to distance herself from the role
