Thank you Mark. My exact thoughts. Larry is a great man and a proud WWII veteran. I actually did a complete interview with him when I met him the second time. I also was honored to perform a set with Buddy’s niece (Larry’s daughter), Sherry, at the Clovis Music Festival, in Clovis, New Mexico.
RIP Larry Holley, may you have a heck of a jam session, with Travis, and Buddy. Also thank you for your service, to our country. Being one of the first Marines going into Nagasaki, defines the word hero.
I was a young kid hanging around the house, and I was always hearing my eldest brother singing buddy holly songs.. I heard him so often, I began to know them off-by-heart from him.. we couldn't afford the records, my brother had an old reel to reel tape recorder our uncle gave him so when Buddys songs came on the radio, my brother recorded them.. I was 'hooked' on Buddy and learnt all his songs, later on a guy gave me an old acoustic guitar, and I painfully learnt a few cords from Buddy's song books.. Years on my brother died of a heart attack, I was crushed.. he was my mentor.. I had a reth made for his funeral, on it was "Buddy Holly" and a pair of black rimmed glasses. I am now 70 with a Gibson guitar still playing Buddy Holly songs, if only my brother was around to hear me playing them.. the old reel to reel tape recorder burnt out, but I still have the old Buddy Holly song books ! Larry I feel your heart strings my friend, god bless you !

People today don't understand that life is precious and too short. ipads , iphones cars etc. have taken over. What has been removed is FAMILY. If you have a good family togetherness like I feel Larry and Buddy had, you have it all.
Buddy Holly was a legend no doubt about it, he influenced thousands of bands and musicians after him, even the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were heavily influenced by Buddy, he may not be here, but his music will live on forever in our hearts, and Larry, thank you for sharing your story, thank you for your service and God bless you sir!
I was six years old when he died. I must have heard about his death on the radio news and I was shocked. I thought since he was dead I would never hear him singing again. When I heard his songs on the radio later that day, I thought that the news report must have been a mistake. I thought that he was still alive. I must not have understood that only his records were played on the radio. Five months later, I got the same kind of shock when I heard that George Reeves had died. I still couldn't understand how I could see him as Superman on television everyday and he could be dead. Looking back 61 years later, I think I was right back then. As long as his songs are played, he is still alive.

Happy Birthday Buddy. Today would have been your 81st birthday. You were just a young man of 22 when you left the world in Feb. 1959. Gone but NEVER forgotten! Happy Birthday Buddy, Rest in Peace and Thank you for the wonderful legacy of music you gave to us all......................
I know just how you feel, Larry. I lost my brother, January 19, 1995 to a heart attack. He was the best friend I have ever had. Buddy was it. That "kick" you talk about was "excitement" ... "Rave On" and "Oh Boy" were just alive with it. Buddy influenced more rock musicians than probably any single other person in the business, if you look at the effect he had on Dylan and Lennon and McCartney and Harrison and all the other British Invasion musicians. He's probably signing autographs for my brother! God bless, Larry. We'll all be together in the next few years, the way this world is going. Cheers, and rave on, brother!

Dear Larry Buddy,s music was and still is Great and always will be Norman Petty did do a good job in his producing the music. God Bless You All love Jenny.
Last thing on my bucket list is to visit the crash site of the greatest rock n roll star who ever lived.75 now and its a long way from Botswana to Clear Lake but i,ll be there.RIP Buddy
Their aunt was my gym teacher in high school. We would just talk sometimes. She spoke of Buddy with great affection and pride. Now that I'm an aunt, I better understand her loss. She was a sweet lady. Seems like a pretty nice family.
The key to Buddy's singing was he sang with so much feeling. AMEN. With Jesus. And MY brother. Not much longer, Larry ... we won't have to wait much longer ...
My older brother was in a band in 1958-61 called The Corals. He played every single Buddy Holly song and threw his voice to sound like Buddy. I was 10 years old sitting on our couch in our living room when the news flashed that Buddy had been killed with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. I became so upset that I cried. Buddy was part of our family. We all were never quite the same after his death.
As a young an growing up in the 70s with an uncle who very much admired buddy holly i realised what an amazing talent I was listening too. Buddy holly is and will aways be one of the most amazing singer/musicians of all time. This is a musician singer bigger than elvis will ever be
Words can’t say enough about what happened. But for that short time the boys had on earth they sure did make an impact. All three were talented enough to make any music icon these days jealous with envy. Buddy’s music was pioneering and still today it is been played all over the world and definitely one of the greatest and we should never forget.
"I think of Buddy up there with the Lord." So do i Larry Holley, Buddy had some of the greatest music. So many songs have been covered by others. Most don't sing any where near the quality or feelings of Buddy. I think of the strings and all, such good stuff. I was there from His beginning with the Crickets. I worked at a grocery store and a friend told me there he had died. I still have the records i bought. I bought a best of- type of album three years ago. God Bless and comfort you Larry, millions still listen to his music and love Buddy.
Larry, that was a wonderful short interview. Buddy was my very favorite singer. I even had an exact pair of those black framed glasses I wore everyday. God bless you and all the Holly relatives. Favorite songs: Everyday, Rave On and It Doesn't Matter Anymore.
Buddy's mother, how she talked, etc reminded me of my mother. They are very strong people to go thru such a tragedy yet keeping their dignity and composure. One thing I just don't understand is why Maria Elena packed up and left for NY not bothering to go to Buddy's funeral. According to the book, Whatever happened to Peggy Sue, by Peggy Sue Gerron, not seeing Maria at the funeral, she went to the Holley residence to check on her. Peggy said that Maria was dressed in a white outfit and according to the book, Maria said Buddy is dead and she was going back to her home in NY. I know Maria has all the rights basically to Buddy's life, but there just so many questions about her and how she conducted herself with Buddy and others in his circle, that as a fan of Buddy, can't help but wonder about.
People who managed and promoted Buddy expected him to become bigger than Elvis. He would have. He was such a great musician and the sound that he had developed was amazing.

You need to get a copy of Larry's book, "I Don't Know How I Made It, But I Did" He has a chapter on Buddy, but he was also one of the first Marines, to go into Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped. Talk about emotional.
I have his entire interview that I did with him at his home in Lubbock if you are interested. He talks with me about his WWII service. EMAIL: lcappetto@icloud.com

Buddy touched so many lives and will be admired and missed beyond this century.
Buddy was the true king of rock and roll
I found buddy holly after his passing and my heart hurts like yours. I remember listening to his music in the hot summer of 1976 and when I found out he had already passed I felt like I had gone with him. What a beautiful person he was and some how I know this snd I have never met him. May his wonderfull music live on FOREVER
That was pretty awesome. You can feel how much Larry loves his brother. RIP Buddy

Thank you Larry for sharing with us. Buddy was/is the greatest, no doubt about it. A tragic loss for the music world. He was with me in my teen years & still is. God rest his soul.
Clearly he still misses his brother so much that it brings a tear to his eye, and why wouldn't it. Cheers

Buddy Holly was a great man. I always enjoyed his music. Good to see his brother still alive and healthy, telling stories about him. R.I.P Buddy
Thanks Joe.
yep that made me cry
Me too.
The love Larry has for his little brother...wow...so raw the emotion. Mr Holley, your brother is so loved and admired throughout the world. You loved him most, and we know there will never be anyone like him. I think Buddy was a really good guy, I believe I would have got on well with him. A really nice guy, and so talented.
David this was one of the most cherished and loved interviews I have done. I interviewed Larry for 90 minutes. We talked of his service during WWII also.

I remember the day he died. I was about 4 years old and my sister told me but I was too young to know who he was of course.
Thank you for the video Sir. Seeing his brother is a sharp reminder of what he could have been if he had been spared.
May he rest in peace and may his family be blessed

Their aunt was my gym teacher in high school. We would just talk sometimes. She spoke of Buddy with great affection and pride. Now that I'm an aunt, I better understand her loss. She was a sweet lady. Seems like a pretty nice family.

Buddy Holley, the very first Stratocaster legend.
The key to Buddy's singing was he sang with so much feeling. AMEN. With Jesus. And MY brother. Not much longer, Larry ... we won't have to wait much longer ...

God Bless you Larry Buddy enspired me so much I still sing his songs in My act In the UK

@@jessicawiley5797 I am retired now.
As a young an growing up in the 70s with an uncle who very much admired buddy holly i realised what an amazing talent I was listening too. Buddy holly is and will aways be one of the most amazing singer/musicians of all time. This is a musician singer bigger than elvis will ever be
Thank you for your kind comments. Buddy will forever be a legend. I hope you can watch some of my cover songs of Buddys.
Amazing how love never dies. Thanks for sharing this interview. Very touching.
Buddy Holly had the best brother a brother could have.

@Ray Pellerin I was born in 73 so a good while after Buddy had passed.

Words can’t say enough about what happened. But for that short time the boys had on earth they sure did make an impact. All three were talented enough to make any music icon these days jealous with envy. Buddy’s music was pioneering and still today it is been played all over the world and definitely one of the greatest and we should never forget.

"I think of Buddy up there with the Lord." So do i Larry Holley, Buddy had some of the
greatest music. So many songs have been covered by others. Most don't
sing any where near the quality or feelings of Buddy.
I think of the strings and all, such good stuff. I was there from His beginning with
the Crickets. I worked at a grocery store and a friend told me there he had died.
I still have the records i bought. I bought a best of- type of album three years ago.
God Bless and comfort you Larry, millions still listen to his music and love Buddy.
Thank you for watching my interview with Larry Holley. I appreciate your comment too. Great information. EMAIL: lcappetto@icloud.com
Larry, that was a wonderful short interview. Buddy was my very favorite singer. I even had an exact pair of those black framed glasses I wore everyday. God bless you and all the Holly relatives. Favorite songs: Everyday, Rave On and It Doesn't Matter Anymore.
This was absolutely heart wrenching. I feel so sorry for Buddy's family. They loved him so much.
Thank you for your comment and for watching my interview. I have met the Holley family and they are amazing people.
I would like to hear more. Please send me an email. Thank you. EMAIL: lcappetto@icloud.com
People who managed and promoted Buddy expected him to become bigger than Elvis. He would have. He was such a great musician and the sound that he had developed was amazing.
