This band are so important... influence everybody.... Buddy, first singer, song writer, guitar player....and Jerry’s inventiveness and playing so underrated
Rest in peace Joe B. Mauldin. Once of the great rock n roll pioneers along with Buddy Holly and J.I. Allison. Joe left this earth this past Saturday, February 7, 2015. A true gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting several times along with J.I., Sonny Curtis and Glen D. Hardin. So glad I had the pleasure of hearing them play together on multiple occasions when they came home to Lubbock, Texas. Legends all of them!!
I listened to you guys when I was a boy growing up in Belfast NI in the early 60's. Still love your music, and I'm just listening to you play now. Thank you
Buddys manager was holding back money and manipulating so he had to earn some extra money riding broken down freezing buses. Can you picture Michael Jackson having to do that ?
@@edwardrossman9448 it’s a shame, we will never know if his music would have evolved like the Beatles did. Imagine how many great songs he would of written prior to the Beatles.
@@alanhodges8839 I love the music of Buddy Holly also, but you should at least listen to early Beatles. The Beatles always said that the American rock and rollers where their idols growing up. In fact Sir Paul would throw a party every year on Buddy’s birthday. He still might be doing it.
He was also a song writer, and session musican for the Everley brother's, eddie cochran and many more. Buddy Holly's death overshadowed and eventually almost blanked out the rest of the band, with many assuming buddy did everything and wrote all the songs. Which isn't true at all. Truth is buddy holly at the time of his death was a fading star whose last 3 releases prior to his death failed to make the billboard 100, he was always more popular in Europe than in his native country.. After Holly's death " it doesn't matter anymore" was immediately released to hopefully cash in on his death, it only scraped into the billboard top 100 but made no.1 in the UK. He had a few more top 20 hits in the UK during the early 60s but nothing in the usa, his popularity rose after the beatles performed many of his songs and mentioned his name in TV and radio interviews in the UK during the early part of 1963 when they were taking off like a rocket in the UK, as a result of this 3 buddy holly recordings were issued in the UK all making the top 10 and as a result of this 2 of those were issued in the usa but didn't do well. So early death, name check from the beatles and a musical later turned into a movie plus " American pie" help his legacy enormously.. Many of his recordings today that are regarded as classics that initially didn't sell well have sold many more copies after his death over the years than they initially did. Many history books ignore the facts in favour of the latter popularity of him. You only need to check out his discography to find songs you'll know well that are listed as " uncharted" or very low chart positions in the usa
If Buddy hadn’t died in that plane crash the crickets would’ve been just as big if not bigger than the Beatles in the 60s as Buddy was planning to start recording with them again after he got back from that tour that he was killed during
12th March 1958, Wolverhampton Gaumont cost 12 shillings and 6 pence which was more than i got a week to spend by 2 shillings, and then a 10 mile walk home as the last train had gone.
Sonny Curtis in the video is also. Larry Welborn is also still around. He was another childhood friend and bandmate of Buddy's. He played bass on That'll Be The Day.
Does anyone know a guy named jack wells that played guitar at the last show with buddy? Im holding reel to reels he made and i think some of these recordings are from when he played in a.f.m. 1950s
Actually, Jerry & Joe did not leave the Crickets. It was Buddy who left to pursue a solo career. The Crickets soldiered on for many years after Buddy died, with a revolving lineup around Jerry.
May Joe Maulldin rest in peace thanks for sharing your talent with us

These guys right here!!! The real deal
Legends of music
I listened to you guys when I was a boy growing up in Belfast NI in the early 60's. Still love your music, and I'm just listening to you play now. Thank you
These guys were the influence for Beatles, even the name was derived from the Crickets.
Man these gentlemen are world's legends!
If not for Buddy’s rock music and these guys then lots of famous music stars wouldn’t be famous.
I was born decades after the day the music died. The music from that era is evergreen.
Long live 1950s RocknRoll 🎸
pure Geniuses, Real Musicians just like the main man himself Buddy Holly
Rest In Peace Joe B. Mauldin. Great to hear a tribute to Joe on '50's on 5 Serious Radio over this week-end.
Rest in peace, Jerry Allison! Cheers!
Great guys .
I love 50s .
Buddy''s fateful last tour Winter Dance Party started 60 years ago this week ...
That damn tour. Who schedules a tour thru the northwest in the winter?

Buddy Holly and The Crickets were the teachers, The Beatles were just pupils.
I’m 81 and still listen to The Crickets but not the Beatles.

Buddy and The Crickets are obviously the best R & R group of all time.
March 3 1958, Southampton. Best concert ever.
i'd kill to experience a cricket concert....
Now it's the Mayflower! I saw the buddy holly story musical there last week and it was incredible to find out they performed there
J. I. Allison is an underated Rock Drummer. Watch his left hand in his videos.
He was also a song writer, and session musican for the Everley brother's, eddie cochran and many more.

Jesus... rock and roll 1956 a.d. 2nd Best sh!t that ever happened to the planet.
The original bass player on That'll be the day is Larry Welborn. Sad he doesn't get more credit.
First version of "That'll Be the Day" is recordedin Decca Record. The bass player of the song is Don Guess.
Wish Jerry wouldn't keep being so modest. He's a brilliant drummer and innovator.
The greatest drummer.
Saw them back in 1980s in England, Sonny seperately from the Crickets.
Great stuff.
Buddy wanted to come back and tour England again in 1959 or 60 because he loved the fans so much. It's a shame he never got the chance.
They just don't make musicians like these anymore.

3funke Fair play to you...I wish I had been around to see them at that time. Did Holly do much talking? Wish there was footage..all the best mate.
Hi, Fantastic memory for you, wish I had been there, friend of mine saw him in London and remembers Buddy's guitar playing being fantastic.
@@rocketfbh9650 so lucky guy
Nostalgie
Only if Buddy was there
That’d be the day.
holly buddy
Is Jerry Allison the only one left ?
Sonny Curtis in the video is also. Larry Welborn is also still around. He was another childhood friend and bandmate of Buddy's. He played bass on That'll Be The Day.
Jerry Allison is in the middle. L-R: Joe, Jerry and Sonny.
Does anyone know a guy named jack wells that played guitar at the last show with buddy? Im holding reel to reels he made and i think some of these recordings are from when he played in a.f.m. 1950s
There was no one called Jack Wells on the tour.
Should be re-titled ' An interview with J.I. Allison'.
kool....
Are you sure the guy in the dark blue shirt is not Gene Hackman?
Sunny granny!
Why were they not on that plane with buddy. You ask. Well Because. They had left the band. And quit on buddy

These goons shouldn’t have sided with Norman Petty, Buddy wouldn’t have even done that ill-fated winter tour.
