I think it was more of a dedication to Elvis then a cover. So many things Elvis - the outfit, guitar, piano and more all Elvis.
Certainly a dedication but the song is so different in this arrangement... it is definitely a cover - her unique and brilliant cover (I mean it is so distinctive it should count as hers the way Whitney's cover of Dolly's song is so distinctive it counts as hers )

The baby and very little girl are Angelina's cousins, the pre-teen girl is Angelina's sister Juliette, and the piano player is Rob Christie, Director of the Republic Records LA studio who has been working with Angelina since she signed with that record label in 2020 when she was 14 - she is 16 in this video.
Some big time reveals about Angelina were released by Aftonbladet, a Swedish daily newspaper published in Stockholm, Sweden. It is one of the largest daily newspapers in the Nordic countries. This interview was done after her performance on the FIFA Awards Show in Paris a few days ago.
- After the show was over, she met Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and other soccer superstars. Angelina stated, "When Messi said he was a big fan of mine, I was so moved that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry."

What a glorious production, praise to everyone involved, so perfect for Angelina Jordan she rules the universe with her talent. Again, the great talent of Rob Christie playing the piano. The Cinemaphotography, a total MASTERPIECE, Excellent ART Cole McCarthy! Great touch, the cousins and sister get a cameo. Mery, you should be so proud, AJ's grandma produced this. (This red guitar is identical to the one Elvis played in his 1968 concert on TV.) Oh, the tears, and loss of breath, she is like no other in the universe. Here is a classic example of what this ethereal talent, Angelina Jordan, can achieve she takes a mundane song and turns it in to phenomenal classic. Angelina at 16 is the MASTER of her universe, she is top priority for both Stargate, and AJ's voice has been unique since she was 7 years old and now at 16, she controls us as an audience, leaving us hang on every word and phrase. Angelina sings this so beautifully: I love how she comes in strong and how with her melancholy makes you feel the sadness and acceptance of a song where love is destroyed by distrust and her reflection on it. Elvis sang it this incredibly and he was a master showman entertaining the audience, however in his live performance it was cheerful and upbeat and I didn’t really feel he was distraught by the misery.
Visually it is all in Elvis’ style: the Priscilla beehive, the guitar and the leather suit from the comeback tour and also the suit Rob wears fits that style. The grandeur and gaudiness of the shop fits nicely as well of course.
But there are some other visual tricks as well. She comes in and uncovers beauty from the past and brings them into the present …. as she does with the song. Als with the mirrors, the song becomes literally a reflection. Her two nieces and her sister dressed in white give an image of her growing up and another time aspect. Time seems to be a theme in this video.

great job. this is a perfect example that AJ's real cover genius in musicianship and arrangement. She brings the bridge to the beginning which changes the entire song's message. She did My Funny Valentine in the same room and is also spectacular interpretation.

Elvis' version is great, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 83 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song.
The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers.
The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister.

GENIUS because she is able to visualize ways to give tribute to Elvis, and still breathe fresh air into it and turn it into a beautiful piece of art, with her signature all over it. My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16, in this video, is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.
Power & Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. Did you notice that right foot raise it’s heal to cradle the guitar a couple of times in the performance? I was waiting for her to throw in a little shake to it in homage to the King. Could that have been intentional? That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins not nieces. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes.
I base my interpretation on my knowledge of Angelina's journey from an 18 month old little girl singing a "classic" of music history 'I Will Always Love You' . She has been listening to these classics on repeat on YOUTube since then under the guidance and inspiration of her Grandmother Mery Zamani.
She has been performing these classics since her first time in studio at 6 yrs old.. She has continued this journey through her 1st introduction to the world with her "Classic'" 'Gloomy Sunday’ and following with her many performances at her many Jazz Festivals, TV performances, Concerts, and charity events, studio recordings and practice sessions at home accompanied or not. The location in the Antique store represents these classics (like the furniture) of another era. To me she portrays wonder at all these classics surrounding her. as she has travelled this road. Her tribute to Elvis is at her present age, today, each stage represented by her cousins and sister and ending with Angelina herself on the couch still admiring all this history surrounding her. The beautiful rendition of the song, and other tributes are in the leather outfit, Guitar and hair a tribute to Priscilla. Just my interpretation but it makes the most sense to me. ♥👣👸🏻

The song was written by Mark James, an American singer/songwriter, who recorded it the year it was written. The best known version, however, was that done by Elvis Presley. It was his last No 1 song. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, Mark James is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

This girl has an absolutely unique talent and taste and she is not afraid of anything, there are no impossible songs for her, she will always find a way to transform them with her extraordinary musical intelligence. Yeah..to take an Elvis classic and somehow to elevate it (perhaps not in the minds of all but certainly in the minds of many) is at first a shock. But Angelina does this over and over, today to Elvis, yesterday to Adele or the Beatles, tomorrow to Michael Jackson or Queen. It is what she does and it is a joy to experience. Elvis version was from a time that jangly Vegas horn pop was a fad. Even country music had horns. It shows who was controlling the song then. Written to make money. When an artist come from a place of support and compromise is not part of the process this is what we get. This song really shows it's meaning. And that voice. It's on repeat at least three times everytime it's on. She needs some 10 minute songs😄

Angelina's guitar was NOT a PROP as some reactors have commented in the past. She plays guitar as well as several other instruments. She could have used any guitar but she chose to pay homage to the king by using that particular model. Elvis used that guitar model in his '68 TV Comeback Special. A Hagstrom '67 Viking II Semi-Hollow Body, Transparent Wild Cherry, which recently sold at auction for $500,000 dollars.

The Hagstrom Red Guitar belonged to musician Al Casey, a member of Elvis’ backing band during the special in 1968. According to an accompanying letter from Casey, he was asked to let Elvis use the guitar by the producers, as they "thought it would look beautiful on camera and with the set."
Elvis Presley’s 1942 Martin D-18 acoustic guitar may have recently sold for $1.32 million, but fear not - another of the King’s axes, this one his cherry-red Hagstrom Viking II electric guitar, famous for its use in the legendary '68 Comeback Special, is hitting the block.
The semi hollow instrument is a highlight of Kruse GWS Auctions’ Artifacts of Hollywood & Music auction, which begins on March 27. It's being offered with a starting bid of $250,000.

The ‘68 Comeback Special marked Elvis' return to live performance after seven years spent focused on acting in Hollywood films. The televised concert, which launched Presley's return to live touring, featured him playing the Hagstrom for the opening segment as well as during one of the live "stand-up" segments.

Angelina always respects the lyrics. Elvis’s smash hit is classic, but the lyrics are actually melancholy-and Angelina’s version tells that story. The same is true for Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie Mercury’s original is a rock classic for the ages, but Angelina’s arrangement and her voice express the melancholy in the lyrics. Elvis and Freddie were amazingly great performers. Angelina is a singer, a vocal artist. Both original songs were untouchable for decades, but I honestly like Angelina’s versions better. Wait, let me take that back-I love Angelina’s versions.

The one who did the directing for the photo shoot as stated at the beginning is Angelina's grandmother Mary Zamani. Regarding Angelina's outfit, it was also taken from Elvis after he returned from his military service as a punishment by the justice system. He was told that he could no longer dance the way he does with his legs, which turns everyone on. Then he went on stage in tight black leather clothes and a red guitar and did the What he knows how to do best is where Angelina's clothing came from in the music video. Indeed, we remain somewhat speechless in front of this version of "Suspicous Minds" by AJ, probably one of her most remarkable interpretations (among many others) to which is added an excellent video. Once again the really rare musical sense of this young and brilliant girl jumps to the eyes.
Elvis did the first cover. Mark James wrote it a year before and EP kept the original arraignment but added a lot more back up singers and instruments. What yo just saw is a genius arraignment that flipped the song from a man’s point of view to a haunting plea from the woman’s point of view

Angelina sang this song at her concert in Norway last summer on July 10th.It was even more special then. After the 15 song set, with a little persuasion from the crowd, agreed to give us 3 more songs. She explained how emotional she was feeling, being on the stage, tears were rolling down her cheeks, she wiped the tears from her eyes and then sang this song. If you really want to hear a real artist perform you must go to a live concert - there are sure to be plenty this spring/summer - you deserve to experience one (or more)!

My own reaction is that Angelina widens the scope of the message, applying it to any human relationship, whether of individuals or of nations. Elvis is a great entertainer, Angelina is one of the best storytellers - so their covers of this Mark James song must be different, and they are. As usual, the lyrics are easier to recognize in Angelina's version. The imagery is a complex tribute to Elvis, done to perfection.
Edit (after seeing your Elvis reaction): as I said, entertainer!! He doesn't sing the song, he plays it with all his body (plus support from the band and choir). Well chosen recording btw, shows the differences perfectly
Aside from pregnancy 😇 - I feel like the message of the song is different even though they both use the same tune and lyrics. Elvis says "Everything will be fine if you trust me", a more optimistic view. Listening to Angelina, you know: this whole thing will not gonna work.

Angelina did the composer of the song Mark James proud. Suspicion in a relationship is heartbreaking and should be sung in the tempo and emotion the way Angelina performs it. The pop tempo and arrangement that Elvis sings this song has the sound of frustration to it. Was he frustrated with Priscilla's suspicions?
