It's still got that AA badge on the windscreen! And when you said 'brown' a horrifying image of a brown Austin Allegro came to mind! That colour is actually quite cool. Not in the least Allegro-ish. Vince
Allegro brown still makes me feel a bit icky today. I think the main reason that colour was popular was that it wouldn't show up the rust in a years time .
I had a 12 plate Evoque, absolutely loved it, the 2.2 diesel pulled like a train quickly to cop bothering speeds without having to turn the radio up. The old shape is still better than the current jelly mould incarnation IMO.
It looks a good bet for a bit of profit Matt. Cleaned up, this should sell fairly quickly. These Evoques are often bought to impress friends etc....The only slightly worrying thing, is that you may end up on first name terms with the local Range Rover service manager rather sooner than you'd like.....

You got lucky the engine didn't eat itself. I got rid of my 2.0d Ingenium XE last month that I had really looked after with oil changes every 6-8k and still ended up with a very rattly chain. Only 80k and chain rattle. The diesel ingenium is not JLRs finest moment
Hi Matt, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the alarm going off when you opened the OSR door is symptomatic of a door latch failure so I suspect it won't be locking that door when you lock the car, it's not unheard of with Evoque and XF of this age. To test it, lock the car and leave the keys out of range in case it has keyless entry (don't think it does, but covering all bases) and see if the door still opens and the alarn goes off. Thought I'd let you know as I know you pride yourself on preparing cars to a very high standard and wouldn't want to deal with a complaint. You may find by sorting it that you have folding mirrors too (if fitted) as when a door latch fails, the mirrors won't fold in as they only do this at the end of the sequence once all doors are locked. Source: Have worked in two JLR service departments
Prepping cars to your standard is a no brainer for a dealer... unfortunately a lot don't! Happy customers and repeat business is the only way,and also a happy conscience! Keep up the good work.
Finally some positive content about a RR, great cars if looked after and are not too bad on reliability in my experience. Can’t beat a manual Evoque and those ingenious engines are really both rapid and frugal in equal measure. £20 a year car tax too if you look hard enough 😀🍻
Nice Evoque Matt! I bought a 2013 one 3 years ago with only 32000 miles on it! It had horrible mismatched tyres so I looked at Kwikfit and scored a set of 4 OEM Pirelli scorpions on sale at £99 each including mobile fitting at my house! What a difference to the handling. It’s now got 62000 on the clock and tyres are still in great nick! Love mine!👍😊❤️

Wait until you hear the £3k plus timing chain rattle amongst other engine problems, leaking windscreens, clutches that get stuck down for no apparent reason and sat nav/blue tooth units that have a mind of their own, if they work at all. Then I didn't like the way the turbo/engine doesn't work well with the clutch making it annoyingly easy to stall and frankly the thing inside isn't very special. Looks beautiful outside, but inside you may as well be in a Focus and it's a lot more expensive than a Focus and then the insurance company tells you how much it is too insure...

Such a lovely looking car the evoke. I came close to buying one recently until I got the insurance quotes 😳😳😳 I live in NW London but you’d think I was trying to insure a Bugatti the quotes were ridiculous! Maybe that’s why yours was only £8500 Matt 👍🏻
After Mark McCann's recent video I'd be interested to hear your take on the whole keyless entry theft issue with high end vehicles and if you've been unfortunate enough to have any experience with that subject. That Evoque came up really nice.

From what one sees on the internet, Range Rovers values are falling badly on the grounds of theft risk. Is this really a factor that you are seeing in your local market? (Maybe it's a London thing?) Thanks for a great video again!
Nice video Matt. You never disappoint. Entertaining commentary as always buddy. They’re good cars when looked after. I like JLR products. I just do. Kaikoura stone is named after the town in South Island, New Zealand 🇳🇿 where you watch the whales in the southern ocean. 👌no wonder how I know that? 🤔🇳🇿
Ah Matt, I did notice the AA sticker was still in the windscreen after you’d prepped the Evoque! I love your patter which comes over as if no one else but me were watching……which is happily not the case. BTW, on my Liverpool trips from Hampshire, your banter would be better than radio or Spotify🤣🤣
Usually that rattle at start up will be the timing chain. As the hydraulic tensioner gets oil pressure and finds the stretchy chain it stops. First sign I'm afraid. Hopefully I might be wrong 😅 yey I'm wrong!
Nice one. for a car that age I wouldn't bother with genuine JLR service parts, assuming you can even get them, since good quality branded ones from OE suppliers would do.
Its really weird how in most places other than the us you get extremely base cars, no fog lights, no sunroof, no meridian speakers, no nav, and most importantly no camera. Most people buy them for the brand name and thats not nice. Great videos 🫶
I've got those rims on my Freelander 2, with 265/60/18 Yokohama tyres. You can get standard size 235/55/18 Continental Cross Contacts for £122 a corner from Black Circles. Or original fit Pirelli Scorpion Verde for £130. Nice colour. Well I like it anyway. All 2016 Evoques have sat nav - except the poverty spec S model.
I've saw one recently advertised in the same colour but it had black painted wheels on it and it looked good, and I'm not a huge fan of the wheels painted like this but the colour combo went together well. My brother had a couple of them as company cars and he loved them too. Great vid Matt.
When you visit New Zealand, you can check out Kaikoura and the Kaikoura Stone from which the paint is made from 😁. The earthquake in 2016 lifted the foreshore up to 6 meters (20 Feet). Still a calming colour and a good change from black. Triangle is still a good brand, have them on my city car, sub brand of Hankook. All depends on affordability.
Struggling with this one and why it's so cheap. EGR and DPF at that mileage suggests a runaround thats not done any long trips (makes a case for Millers Eco Max or 2EHN additive) but work has been done so seems good. I just don't trust the Ingenium camchains, so would look for the tensioner being checked or fixed as a buyer. Spec is fine, Nexen Nfera tyres are a good (Pareto principle) call and quieter than comparable Michelin/Pirellis with most of the performance. A solid and good car.
That's a nice colour and a nice colour combination. A long time ago as had a R129 Mercedes SL in Bornite Brown with a "Pebble" cream interior. What a lovely car that was and how I regret selling it. Bornite Brown was actually grey or purple or this "latte" colour depending on the light. I still wouldn't ever have another JLR product, though.
Range Rover products in London are ridiculously expensive to insure- some areas you cannot get insurance. I was told that an F type Jaguar was going to be ov 0:16 er a £1500 year for me to insure with years of no claims discount and this was considered cheap… I am told that these vehicles get stolen often
Good to see you are back on form over spending again Matt, it's just not you when you don't. But nice looking Evoque, so money well spent as usual. Love your videos so keep them coming please.
I'm in an Astra GTC atm but with 120k on the clock she won't last forever. Next I'll be after something comfy, not deathly slow, 4-5 doors, still a little sportiness to the drive, reasonably spacious, automatic... I feel an evoque could fit the bill nicely but how reliable are they really?
That’s the problem with people owning diesels not knowing or understanding that there better off with a petrol for short or low mileage trips etc.. works out more expensive in the long run with EGR and other problems. Diesels are designed for long distance and motorway mileage with the odd bit of a heavy right foot every so often.
I quite like that colour to my surprise! Whilst I have always liked Evoques I just wouldn't risk buying one with an ingenium diesel and the petrol engined version seem few and far between! Seems like you have done OK with this one providing the engine doesn't blow in the first few months and you are faced with sorting it!
Nice Car Matt, i like that colour personally. A colleague of mine put 108k on an identical car in 3 years and it was like new! Had a 16 plate myself from new for a couple of years then moved onto an E Pace. Good video as per 🤔😎
Looks decent enough...I'm not sure of the models they offered on the Evoque, but it is a pretty basic car. The rattle on start-up is worrying as the timing chains are known to be suspect on the 2.0d. Turbos do go, which you mentioned, but not at that mileage...the oil needs changing regularly on the Ingenium. I don't think it's worth much more than you paid to be honest being a basic model. You can pick up parts cheaply if you shop around.
Never knew these were Haldex. I assumed they were all Torsen full time AWD being a range rooney designed around off road capability. I suppose when being designed by Posh Spice, they went for looks over function. Great review as always. Still holding out for your advise on warranty work and how it impacts the dealers....still intrigued.
Hey Matt, great video as always. Your talk about tyres got me thinking: do you think you could you make a video on the best tyres to buy for various price ranges and types of car? I know next to nothing about tyres and I suspect there are quite a few people in the same boat. Cheers
Its weird that when you looked for the year of the tire, it should have been indicated by the DOT stamp on it..but in this case there are only 2 numbers showing after the DOT stamp. 61. After year 2000, those stamps should use 4 numbers ( the first 2 indicating the week and the last 2 indicating the year. Before year 2000, 3 numbers were used where the 1st 2 numbers would indicate the week and the last number would indicate the year..... in your case looks like DOT 61 which its either a mistake or someone has cut out the numbers...or it might be a British specific DOT in which case could indicate the 6th week of 2001
Good evening Matt, looks like you've saved a another Range Rover I think you will sell it quite quickly and someone be very happy with that one well done. Cheers Phil from Newark
Nice looking car! But as with all ice cars the cost of running one leaves me with a permanent twitch! Only eight years old lots of expensive service parts and a turbo and probably numerous other parts, (clutch & flywheel next) heavy on tyres heavy on brake parts & suspension, heavy on juice! It just doesn't make sense when you can drive electric! Never give a sucker an even break,😂😂

From what one sees on the internet, Range Rovers values are falling badly on the grounds of theft risk. Is this really a factor that you are seeing in your local market? (Maybe it's a London thing?) Thanks for a great video again!
Keyless entry are the ones they target I believe.
It was coming from the back of the car
Matt, every respectable automotive youtube chanel or Landrover enthusiast MUST feature/own a P38! 😀😀😀 I have a 1996 4.0V8 with only 52000km.
It's not just the car that makes the channel It's the wit & humour that goes with it !!!😂🎉
I bought 8 or 9 cars this morning...seems like your making good business actually 😊.
It was a particularly busy day
Nice one. for a car that age I wouldn't bother with genuine JLR service parts, assuming you can even get them, since good quality branded ones from OE suppliers would do.
Its really weird how in most places other than the us you get extremely base cars, no fog lights, no sunroof, no meridian speakers, no nav, and most importantly no camera. Most people buy them for the brand name and thats not nice.
Great videos 🫶
Excellent playing, nice and clean from low b to c sharp. glad you use that little side key for A sharps which is smoother and purer sounding.
You’re doing so well this year Matt, no more losses ❤
I quite like the colour of this Evoke and the interior too; all in all, a good buy.
Vauxhall did a similar colour called pepper dust.
I had it on a very under powered meriva
That Wonder Grip is good stuff. Tgat van has been stuck in the car park for ages.
Matt, you should get on the phone to Wonder Grip and get them to pay for all the free publicity you give them in every video you do!.
Matt, based on your experience, which is the more reliable? The 1st gen Evoque or the Freelander 2?
I've saw one recently advertised in the same colour but it had black painted wheels on it and it looked good, and I'm not a huge fan of the wheels painted like this but the colour combo went together well. My brother had a couple of them as company cars and he loved them too. Great vid Matt.
Why don't garages rotate the tyres and put the new ones on the back? That's why the rears are the originals, absolutely terrible and dangerous
i am here for the bill at the end
When you visit New Zealand, you can check out Kaikoura and the Kaikoura Stone from which the paint is made from 😁. The earthquake in 2016 lifted the foreshore up to 6 meters (20 Feet).
Still a calming colour and a good change from black. Triangle is still a good brand, have them on my city car, sub brand of Hankook. All depends on affordability.
Dpf Egr etc develop issues because they are driven at low revs/high gears.
And most drivers haven't a clue basically
Struggling with this one and why it's so cheap. EGR and DPF at that mileage suggests a runaround thats not done any long trips (makes a case for Millers Eco Max or 2EHN additive) but work has been done so seems good. I just don't trust the Ingenium camchains, so would look for the tensioner being checked or fixed as a buyer. Spec is fine, Nexen Nfera tyres are a good (Pareto principle) call and quieter than comparable Michelin/Pirellis with most of the performance. A solid and good car.
I love mine. I was reluctant to have one based on rumours. It's been a blast.
What Joker called it Brown! isnt it more like a light bronze?
Good job! Looking forward to seeing if it gets full asking.
It's a nice car, shame the ingenium engines are a pile of garbage.
Another great car & an even better video 👍
Ive got an XF jag in 'Vapour grey' very similar colour to that Evoque
Another great video Matt!! Love your honesty about all the cars you buy.
Those rear tyres were originally on the front I think (sad)
I quite like that colour to my surprise! Whilst I have always liked Evoques I just wouldn't risk buying one with an ingenium diesel and the petrol engined version seem few and far between! Seems like you have done OK with this one providing the engine doesn't blow in the first few months and you are faced with sorting it!
Evoque. Brings me back to a Top Gear episode when James May drove it on Las Vegas.
I'm watching & listening knowing this one is gonna be interesting 🍿
Always enjoy your videos bud keep them coming
I was waiting for you to say, “you know what, I might keep this one”. 😂
And I absolutely love the colour, it's a great way they've made brown look nice ❤
Cheers
Did I miss the cost of the tyres? You forgot to ditch the sinister AA sticker young man lol.
