The comments on Madisyn’s video were pretty much all very patient and understanding, at most negative comments were just expressing disappointment in her lack of research and transphobia, and politely correcting misinformation and requesting an apology for spreading of misinformation - as someone who is autistic and non-binary, the comment section was very validating after watching her video and feeling very hurt and confused,
I used to watch her videos a lot but I’d been struggling with them after seeing her take on trigger warnings - and her video on autism was my breaking point with her content 😢

Wtf is ‘wrong’ with trigger warnings?? People need them. Why would you stop watching someone because of that? Especially as someone who claims to be all for social justice and inclusivity.

Oh nvm, I just searched up and I believe you mean you stopped watching because she bashed trigger warnings?

I stopped watching her when she made that weird video about Asian fishing. I think she was the entirely wrong person to speak on that topic and she downplayed a lot of the racism and fetishisation that Asian people go through by just pretty much speaking for them and almost implying that Asian people don’t actually go through racism and that black people have it way more harder. And I admit I do think it’s probably true that black people face more racism than Asian people do, but the video wasn’t about the black community. It was about uplifting and helping the Asian community, I don’t get why she has to bring her own race into everything, it’s not necessary. She basically looked at autism, stop Asian hate, Asian fishing, etc and said “but what about me?!” She always circles it back to how oppressed and hard her life is, no matter the topic or if it’s even relevant. I’ve had the ick from her for a long time and that awful autism video she made just pushed me over the edge.
Thanks for reading my rant - an autistic person

I watched her entire original video and thought nothing of it... until I saw what actual autistic people were saying in the comments. I didn't see any hate comments (not saying that they weren't there, I just didn't see them), but I saw tons of corrections and critiques.
I think it's easier to say things and viewpoints 'aren't that bad' or that ' everyone overreacted' when you don't belong to the specific marginalized community (even if you belong to other marginalized groups).
It's a fine personal viewpoint to say 'just don't get offended', or "this is the way I choose to respond to ignorant people" but it's a bit much to expect everyone else to have the same 'grace' with others no matter what's being said to or about you (or your group). It can be exhausting.

Quite true… 🙌🏾🧡 It can be exhausting and not everyone can handle things the same way…

The video also had some transphobia in there. She was saying people make up health conditions in order to play in the oppression Olympics, and she compared gender queerness to both fantasies and illnesses. She slipped up a lot in that video, but it doesn’t mean she isn’t capable of deconditioning her thinking around these topics. Just takes some unlearning and re-educating. I hope she can be open with us about that process and apologize for the offense.

re: the talk about non-binary identity, i don’t think it’s cool to speculate on whether or not someone is cis just because their life is also in flux. it’s incredibly common for non-binary people to add or remove pronouns as feelings change. adding she/her back doesn’t make demi cis, she just decided she is comfortable having she/her used for her again, and she still uses they/them. demi is very much trying to find themself, which is expected after the life they’ve had up to this point, but working through gender identity is a part of that. maybe she will decide she’s cis in the end, but it’s not our business to speculate or imply that they’re faking it. i also think it’s super inappropriate to show conservatives being homo/transphobic and tell people they should go watch it because “they have points” especially when in the clip they showed that they don’t even know the difference between sexuality and gender identity. i don’t think having people outside of communities criticizing people in those communities is a great idea. demi is going through things a lot queer people go through, their journey is just more public than the average person. it’s upsetting to see cis and/or heterosexual people discount queer people because we don’t have a neat box to fit into that we’ve known since birth. figuring our your identity is messy.
i did understand what madisyn meant in her video when she talked about “choosing to be non-binary” so that part didn’t bother me too much, but she definitely could have worded it better.
overall, i really thought that video could have been a lot better if she had taken the time to do a little research and give the script a little more work, but honestly she shouldn’t speak on a community she’s not in or disorder that she doesn’t have. a lot of the comments were very civil and informative, but it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed and conflate it with the actual negative comments when it’s happening all at once. i do hope she heard some of the more informative comments out and learned a little more about the autistic community.

You made really great points 🙌🏾. I haven’t watched videos from that channel I referenced at 19:25 before and just came across this one. Didn’t even know who they were or what they typically stand for. Now that I’ve gone to her channel, i see that she’s quite controversial. Thanks for drawing my attention to it 🧡💖

as an autistic nonbinary person i was extremely disappointed and honestly appalled by the sheer lack of research done on her video. i felt as if her internalized ableism was fueling her response and it kind of had undertones of not wanting to be associated with autism. the way she used autism speaks as a resource multiple times shows how negligent she was when researching as autistic people see autism speaks as a hate group as they promote eugenics and are still trying to find a “cure” for autism. as well as her comments on self diagnosis which is accepted in the autistic community because diagnosis is often racist, sexist, and classist in many ways and also can take years. also i didnt like how it felt as if she was tearing down and discrediting other marginalized communities to prove her point (genderqueer and autistic/ neurodiverse people).
overall i felt extremely icky while watching her og video and was super disappointed in her lack of willingness to research, take accountability, and learn from her mistakes, regarding blocking people that disagreed with her and refusing to acknowledge anything about it in any way. she shouldve at least apologized and shared an autistic creators critique or some credible resources that weren’t from a hate group!
apologies for the essay just wanted to share my thoughts as the original video was deleted!

I follow Madison, but have only seen react videos, since the original was taken down. I’m not 💯 on what and how everything was addressed, but based on some of the clips I’ve seen I did want to say some things.
I have autistic brothers, and the difficulties that come with mental and physical disabilities is a lot to bear for the individual, and their families. What I appreciate about Madison’s video (again, from what I’ve seen in reacts), is the critique of the rising trend that mental disabilities are “quirky”.
It is so angering for me because I see how my brothers, and some of my friends have suffered throughout their lives to fit into society’s mold every single second of the day. Things that come naturally for many, don’t for them. And the dismissiveness and stigma towards those in this community is worsened, when others falsely represent these communities.
I don’t advocate for or pardon anything offensive Madison could’ve said, especially since I’m not aware of it. However, I believe approaching this type of conversation and community with as much compassion and calmness as possible ends with people coming to a better understanding and compassion for others.

I do agree that her tone in that video wasnt super different than in her other videos. Shes always pretty sarcastic and conversational. The problem arises when you use that kind of tone and truly have NO idea what you are talking about. If your only info about something is not personal information, but the cdc and a literal hate group, its a lot more likely your gonna mess up. And using the often snarky and almost condescending tone she uses in most videos comes off REALLY bad when she clearly has little to no understanding of anything she was talking about. Her only real knowledge comes from whatever white people she doesn't like on tik tok are doing. It seaps into her conversations about non binary people to. Because her lense is so tik tok focused she doesnt really understand that non binary people who have to move in the real world are not the same as 'some they then nonbinary white person named sock." These people often are very isolated and get cut off when they try to be themselves. Sometimes they experience violence for their identies or are kicked out. Im not saying there arent any real 'socks' out there. But that is an online only problem, and making these blanket sweep statements about non binary people (a group she doesnt understand and repeatedly calls 'white people shit' despite there being plenty of black non binaries) is really bad! I am of the belief that you can have an opinion on anything. But when you use such objective language to describe something that you have absolutely no knowledge of or in person experience, it becomes a problem
