Great playing, Santora. THESE are what PUNCHES are SUPPOSED to sound like!! I can't recall any current game that has tooth-crunching hit sounds like this. Even current fighting games like Tekken don't have great hitting sounds. This is classic all the way.
Thanks for bringing this wonderful vid to TH-cam. It's been a long time since I've seen the actual 'arcade accurate' version. I will also say that you must be the Double Dragon champion. I have never seen this game played so well in my life. That was absolutely amazing. Thanks again for your contribution. : )
This is what I love about this website, TH-cam. You can watch alot of stuff that'll bring back some good memories. Thanks for having Double Dragon on TH-cam.
you just made my night dude with all the tricks that you learnt over the years of playing this, its like lost knowledge of the ancients getting passed down. this was my all time favourite game. i remember having my pals knocking at the door on a saturday and we would take our bmx and go and find the arcade machines in video shops and chip shops, hopefully the older boys were not around the machine otherwise we would wait at a safe distance untill it was clear. some games had half credit bugs
I just think the arcade version was the best game I ever played. Graphics, Sound Effects and music were great. When I was a kid, My friends and I used to collect as much money as possible and play the arcade from start to finish. Then I was so happy to find Double Dragon on the NES but then disappointed while playing it. I guess it's a traumatic childhood experience that still disappoints almost 20 years later.
A lot of slowmotion on the arcade version! I'm very impressed. Why I have not watched this before? Completely forgot about this classic! Thanks a lot for the video. This is the first time I seen all the stages.
Me and my boyfriend from high school used to play this game ALL the time. He was the dude in red, I was the one in blue...ate up so much of our lil money back then. Brought back old memories to see this game....
This game takes me back. The days of being at the old arcade, people all the way to the end, someone trying to jump in at the last second and trying to get the glory of beating the game and having to beat them down. Good times were had by all.
Damm dude you actually played the game in less than 20 min. my respects to you, Now as an adult I could probably do the same, as a kid you would be the bad kid of the block lol, Rock On bro, I loved this game so much it brought cool childhood memories, Im 31 now , but back in the day I would spend untold loads of coins playing those games, I didnt realized it was such a short game , just like Altered Beast, I figure I could finish that game in 20 mintues.. AHH the good ol days
Excellent! I like how you got up on the balcony and proceeded to whip the piss out of Willy. That was brilliant. I'll have to try that sometime. Thanks for posting this great video. I will add it to my favorites list! Again, great job!!
There is a local conveniant mart gas station in my area, still open today, but years ago when I was 7-8 had this game in their small hallway leading back to the restrooms. Everyone used to crowd there and play. My older brother and I would walk down just to play this. We were also the firsts in the area to get it for regular NES. Everyone suddenly wanted us to hang out with them, hehe. Even today when I go in that mart, I look down the hall and still see everyone crowded, although its now empty.
Great techniques! The last boss one is impressive. Also, I didn't know that one could kick objects on the ground or kick a thrown knife... After all these years.....
haha amazing glitch when the abobo throw you over the balcony, so you can kill the boss! The sad thing is that other bad guys run away when you kill him :-\
Te felicito, tu si sabes jugar, no como otros que solo utilizan el codazo volviendo aburrido el juego. Utilizaste muy bien el truco con el jefe final. Me hisiste recordar buenos tiempos de Arcade XD.
this is a cool vid! ya know all the glitche;s of the game.. nice man you brought back memories, me and my bro used to play at the fish and chip shop.. if i hit him in the game by accident hed hit me for real haha..
I love the trend in games changes from year to year late 80s to 90s where the age of beat em ups mid 90s to late 90s where the 1 on 1 fighters late 90s to now the shooters are the "in" thing but RPGs have always been there too
Hey man ! thats serious I alway used the elbows 50% of the time it was almost inpossible to finish the game without the elbows I Saw a guy and his girlfriend finish the game with just 25 cents each lol
Actually the NES version of DD1 was published by Tradewest, not Acclaim. All of the Double Dragon games were developed by Technos Japan. Not sure what your beef is with the NES version; you are aware that there are hardware limitations in the NES that make it necessary to scale down a game in both scope and graphics? Usually, to compensate for this, developers add new content to the home version. Thus, the platforming levels in DD2, or the two new levels in TMNT 2, The Arcade Game.
The arcade version has Taito on it and the NES version has Acclaim. I don't know if they're publishers or not. But I don't understand how the creaters could go from making a master piece to a complete failure. If I were them, I'd be embarrassed to put the NES version out there.
@darwehewuli dipsh**, this IS the original. in THIS version if you play on 2 player at the end the 2 players fight for the girl and it doesn't matter who wins. in the Nintendo version that came a year LATER, they didn't have the technology to recreate the 2-player mode so they changed the story so Jimmy was the bad guy. Jimmy's not the bad guy in any other version, they just screwed up in the NES version.
I really don't know where to start. I think I'll make a list and post it. I've been playing this game for 20 years. Alternatively, I suppose I could record myself playing and post it as a video!
I remember for the green guy, I would get out the way, and my brother would elbow himn to death. How strange that the elbow is the best move. How come you didnt use elbow in the vid!
Great Game! Brings back old memories when skipping school just to play this game xD! Can anyone help me in providing me the emulator & rom please? i would really appreciate it!
The arcade games had to be fun so people could play with them again and again and again. This was their main concern. But today there is no more mentality for the game designers as back then. Today the main goal of the game is to be pretty on graphics so people will buy it and after that it will be finished quickly and no more replay. Very few games today are worth to be replayed and there is no more games today like double dragon which could be replayed countless times.
how manly is this dude..straight strong arming those bolders over his head like that?? then walkin around with em' hurling em at ppl LoL..didnt think about it back then..
@Bw207 Well it's called the game, ok? THE GAME! The game has to be fun. And this game was hell of a fun. Today when i buy a game for Xbox 360 and after i finish it i get bored. I can not finish it again. That's the difference with games today and games back then. Today everything is about the "great" story and fine graphics but the fun is all out of it.
Like a BOSS!!! I love all the tricks he used into fooling the bad guys to die. Man, the machine guy has quite a HOUSE!! (it probably Rivals Dr. Evil's!!!) I love the way you made Abobo "throw you" upstairs. @ 8:01 you was like "Suck my D*ck machine gun man!!!" All those perps just broke out when their boss died!! and you still smacked them a few!! Its funny how tougher and stronger and more "senior" the guys get as you approach the "Sons of Anarchy" Clubhouse
@komepollass Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about this ending. Would've been better had this video been done with a 2nd player. Best part of this game was doing the 1P vs 2P final fight. And you're right, no move was better than the elbow!
Never really got into this game. I preferred street brawlers ala streets of rage or final fight. This series you just go through forests, factories, mountains and secret bases, stuff like that :/
They mis-spelled Animator in the end credits! They spelled it Animeter! At 9:07, they left out the A in programmers! They put progrmmers! They left the S out of Sound Effect! It's Sound Effects!
Great playing, Santora. THESE are what PUNCHES are SUPPOSED to sound like!! I can't recall any current game that has tooth-crunching hit sounds like this. Even current fighting games like Tekken don't have great hitting sounds. This is classic all the way.
I wish I'd seen this in the 80's when I was playing DD in the arcade, this is a masterclass man
Double Dragon is one of the best of all time. I still play it on MAME
This game rocks the cartoons pretty good too.
This brings me old and happy memories
Same here
you just made my night dude with all the tricks that you learnt over the years of playing this, its like lost knowledge of the ancients getting passed down. this was my all time favourite game. i remember having my pals knocking at the door on a saturday and we would take our bmx and go and find the arcade machines in video shops and chip shops, hopefully the older boys were not around the machine otherwise we would wait at a safe distance untill it was clear. some games had half credit bugs
Great, I never know these tricks 20 long years ago...
20 yers ago this was one of my favorite arcade games and it is still fun today.
I started crying when I heard the music inside the enemy's base!!!
That trick you did at the end against Willy was simply badass! Bravo!
I just think the arcade version was the best game I ever played. Graphics, Sound Effects and music were great. When I was a kid, My friends and I used to collect as much money as possible and play the arcade from start to finish. Then I was so happy to find Double Dragon on the NES but then disappointed while playing it. I guess it's a traumatic childhood experience that still disappoints almost 20 years later.

wow one elbow move.. crazy.. love this game to death remind me of my childhood.. thanks for sharing.. i play this game all the time on the emulater..
I miss getting to end of this playing 2 player, and fighting your friend for the girl..
Hey! Very nice game! Very skilled player. And I did not know about the trick whit the last boss.
Thanks for bringing back good times!
i love the way....u beat the last boss...that was crazy.....i wouldve never thought of that......good shit
How you got this game, where you were playing it?
LOL, nice. I like the way you completely made a fool out of the AI here (letting them walk into their own dynamite and fall off cliffs, etc.)
Where you got this game? by a emulator?
I guess when Willy died, the rest of them ran away like children.
Man, Willy got OWNED!! That was so awesome!!
"May you live happily forever"
Excellent! I like how you got up on the balcony and proceeded to whip the piss out of Willy. That was brilliant. I'll have to try that sometime. Thanks for posting this great video. I will add it to my favorites list! Again, great job!!
You are really an amazing Double Dragon player..not like *others* that just claim themselves to... congratulations dude, you DO rock :) ..
i love the awesome music this game has i remember playing this with my big bro years ago it was cool!
Hey, come back here and fight! *lol*
That was nice trick to beat the boss.
Whoever wrote the MAME program. I salute you !
Hoy you can play this? is it an emulator for pc? where I could find it bro?
I always thought the green Abobo was the zombie of the first boss you kill.
Great techniques! The last boss one is impressive. Also, I didn't know that one could kick objects on the ground or kick a thrown knife... After all these years.....
such a deadly game, I remember going to the arcade and seeing all the teenagers with their quarters lined up, I was so jealous. Millbourne Mall 4 life
haha amazing glitch when the abobo throw you over the balcony, so you can kill the boss!
The sad thing is that other bad guys run away when you kill him :-\
Never seen that before either.
Would have come in handy back in the day!
I like how you glitched and managed to hit the boss from the above.
Fucking awesome job man!
I used to play this in the arcade in the late eighties when i was a kid.Brings back allot of fond memories
Te felicito, tu si sabes jugar, no como otros que solo utilizan el codazo volviendo aburrido el juego. Utilizaste muy bien el truco con el jefe final. Me hisiste recordar buenos tiempos de Arcade XD.
I love the music! It's greatly awesome!!
this is a cool vid! ya know all the glitche;s of the game.. nice man you brought back memories, me and my bro used to play at the fish and chip shop.. if i hit him in the game by accident hed hit me for real haha..
You used abobo to get up to the last boss.. nice one lol
I could finish game only by using the elbow punch the entire time... the way you finished it was much better.
I love the trend in games changes from year to year
late 80s to 90s where the age of beat em ups
mid 90s to late 90s where the 1 on 1 fighters
late 90s to now the shooters are the "in" thing
but RPGs have always been there too
woooooww.... hear the final's music i was a honor for me .... great i don't know the balcony trick ! ... great! ....
El primer juego Arcade que juge en mi vida! Aguante el Doble Dragon!!
This and Altered Beast were my favorite. Oh and the Original Shinobi!!!!
My mistake you used it a couple times on the last boss. Nice method for last boss! (as someone else wrote)
Yes I've played the game. Thousands of times. I've beaten the game int the ground. Without the elbow.
very well played sir. but im surprised that you dont use the elbow.
you are great at this
It's so funny at the end when you beat the machine gun guy the rest of the slackers try to make a run for it...
5:42 That Mr. T. can sure throw helluva far!
Classic game. The illusion was shattered when I saw someone complete the game using only the back elbow move... sigh.
Hey man ! thats serious
I alway used the elbows 50% of the time it was almost inpossible to finish the game without the elbows
I Saw a guy and his girlfriend finish the game with just 25 cents each lol

awesome game!
when i got stuck on this game i always used the elbow move (jump+punch) worked all the time
The arcade version has Taito on it and the NES version has Acclaim. I don't know if they're publishers or not. But I don't understand how the creaters could go from making a master piece to a complete failure. If I were them, I'd be embarrassed to put the NES version out there.
nice exploit at the end. I have never seen that. Good werk
You are a god.
That was pretty common.
Most people tried to kill the boss first, without killing all his guys first.
class, with a few nudges
4:24: Cheat codes are confirmed, boy.
すごいっ!
すごいプレイだ!
TASっぽくないのもまたいいです!
he punched her in the belly at the start!
Good stuff
What is the soft DIP set at? I require assistance, Ned.
Is it just me or does the musical score for his game sound EXACTLY like the background music in Miami Vice?
@darwehewuli dipsh**, this IS the original. in THIS version if you play on 2 player at the end the 2 players fight for the girl and it doesn't matter who wins. in the Nintendo version that came a year LATER, they didn't have the technology to recreate the 2-player mode so they changed the story so Jimmy was the bad guy. Jimmy's not the bad guy in any other version, they just screwed up in the NES version.
Both the arcade and NES version were developed by Technos Japan, so both versions probably involved a lot of, if not most of, the same people.
I really don't know where to start. I think I'll make a list and post it. I've been playing this game for 20 years. Alternatively, I suppose I could record myself playing and post it as a video!
Aaah the memories!

Wow I would love be an animeter, like Koji Ogata or a progrmmer like Hiroshi Satoh. (End Credits)
@keepstert The OP throws a couple in the last room, maybe four, but they're there.
Jump+Attack for back elbow pwn3d all tbh. Quality game though.
how manly is this dude..straight strong arming those bolders over his head like that?? then walkin around with em' hurling em at ppl LoL..didnt think about it back then..
Ah the memories I remember blowing several dollars in quarters on this game. Game glitch FTW!
e vissero felici e contenti... e con questo la mia giovinezza è andata via.... :-)
@Bw207 Well it's called the game, ok? THE GAME! The game has to be fun. And this game was hell of a fun. Today when i buy a game for Xbox 360 and after i finish it i get bored. How did you get this?
I have a hard time getting the ababo to toss me up on the balcony
hey the other gun on the wall....does anybody know was there a way to get it ?
i thought i was the only one that caught it from my bro when we played this lol
Like a BOSS!!! I love all the tricks he used into fooling the bad guys to die.
Man, the machine guy has quite a HOUSE!! (it probably Rivals Dr. Evil's!!!)
I love the way you made Abobo "throw you" upstairs. @ 8:01 you was like "Suck my D*ck machine gun man!!!" All those perps just broke out when their boss died!! and you still smacked them a few!! Its funny how tougher and stronger and more "senior" the guys get as you approach the "Sons of Anarchy" Clubhouse
what if they made this for the PS3 ? damn that would be sweet
I never notice that extra gun up top next to Willy
We are still watching in 2013
@komepollass Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about this ending. Would've been better had this video been done with a 2nd player. Best part of this game was doing the 1P vs 2P final fight.
And you're right, no move was better than the elbow!
4:04....no snuggeling during working hours! XD
Never really got into this game. I preferred street brawlers ala streets of rage or final fight. This series you just go through forests, factories, mountains and secret bases, stuff like that :/
Your a home oh.
Damn it only takes 18 minutes to beat this game.
They mis-spelled Animator in the end credits!
They spelled it Animeter!
At 9:07, they left out the A in programmers!
They put progrmmers!
They left the S out of Sound Effect!
It's Sound Effects!
The best Abobo is the first one in the first level(wall)
I use to throw elbows at everyone....it seemed like they could not stop me.
he did it!
