In this Seasons Finale, we hit the 90th Episode created between The GN in 1970 and the SOO The Milwaukee Road Series. So with 90 eps in the books, we look back at a few of the projects, the SOO Athearn SW1500, Milwaukee Road Athearn MP15AC, of course the SDL39's by Overland and a look at ScaleTrains attempt at greatness.
We do not get into the nitty-griddy of each items mentioned, but we do have a good time in the process. The wheels don't totally come off, except in the SW1200, but that's a given, based on the amount of work put into that locomotive.
If this description lacked any info you were seeking prior to tuning in? I'd suggest to take a look. If you're looking for follow-up info? Well, we try to get all the info IN the episode, so maybe it's worth re-watching.

I’m always amazed the algorithm brings in a certain number of viewers and then flatlines. The best way I’ve found is fellow modelers just sharing the videos with others. Even then, they’re broadcasting to echo-chambers.
In the end, I’m grateful to anyone that is learning something from the videos. I realize they’re not for everyone. They’re fast paced and often jump around, but my feeling is, “Videos can get stale and boring real fast. So why not mix it up with music, videos and different content.”
In the end, it’s more of a variety show, than a how-to instructional.
Thanks for tuning in, posting and for sharing it with others. Have a great weekend Wil.

I’ve never said what I’m doing is the BEST. I have said, “I’m just sharing what I’m doing and this is the ‘vehicle’ I’ve selected to present my progress.”

Thank you sir! It took me a few days here to reply back to fellow modelers that have posted.
I appreciate your feedback on the videos. Recently, a few cats have ripped the work I’ve been doing. Which I’m fine with, everyone has the right to an opinion, to a certain extent…if you’ve got value to share on improvements? I just like to see what you create, to know where you fall on the scale of “critique value”. Otherwise, the criticism may fall of deaf ears.
I never claim to be an expert, I just enjoy the hobby and those who are in it. Eventually the series will come to an end, then the nay sayers can rest easy knowing I’m not churning out dribble. 🤣 Truth be told, nobody will really know you’re not producing anything…they can’t miss what isn’t there, right? 🤔
Again, i always appreciate you tuning in, touching base and leaving comments. It is great to hear from you.

When you say, “Your videos are terrible, you need to do X-Y or Z…” I would look at your videos and say, “Thanks for your take, but maybe refinement should be made on your own videos first.” In this case, you have not proven that your opinion would yield success or improve the product.
A role-model I’ve followed said, “If you offend 10% of your audience, you’re doing something right. If you please 100%, you’re going to create dull and boring. Pushing the envelope is what brings interest and with that “interest”, you’ll put some people off.”

@@SootheMilwaukeeRoad Thank you for considering the feedback. I'm a geologist by education BS & MS but IT pays the bills. I've never had the desire to be a TH-cam videographer mini celebrity so no, I don't make video's. But I do know what works for me and what doesn't. I don't think you have to be an expert video maker to know what makes a good video or a watchable video.
Maybe it is only 10% who find the sped up or slowed down voices and other stuff to be amusing. Like a lot of things however, a little goes a long way, a lot becomes an irritant. As for 10%... we'd all like to think what we do is wonderful and well liked, and anyone thinking otherwise is just a wet blanket. But what if a lot grow tired of it and stop watching? The old school company's used to consider a letter of complaint weighed a lot more than a single person. They figure if someone took the time to write, how many felt the same way but didn't take the time. Ten percent? What matters is hopefully taking constructive criticism as a way to improve.
Anyway, on the positive side, it's obvious your video's are professional grade and have a lot of great content. Kudo's. I've loved trains all my life mostly SP and D&RGW but MILW is way cool too. I did buy two of the ST Rivet Counter SDL39s to boot. Cheers

Great episode as always, you've got quite a fleet of SDL39's there, I love oddball locomotives so now that Scaletrains has one I'll likely find an excuse to get one, nice coverage on the club layout, pretty impressive, never get tired of seeing the GN in 1970, love that layout, got to see the Hot Wheels again :), nice collection of lanterns hanging above, really like that pair of SDP45's backing the train in, the BSB scheme just seemed to suit those units, I'm a big fan of vehicles so I especially like your segments on detailing them, that KW K100 is sweet, hopefully they have one in red so I can replicate the BJ and the bear truck, your videos have also turned me onto alot of products I wasn't previously aware of so I truly appreciate that, and the Curmudgeons gripe about manufacturers not getting details right, yes that is frustrating at times, but I'm a tweaker (not that kind!) so even the most detailed models I get I end up modifying or adding to them so this is something I just tolerate, but there are some that are so blatant its almost sinful, as always great watch, looking forward to more in the future, Thanks for all you do

    • @SootheMilwaukeeRoad
      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It depends on the manufacture…it’s best to test an area and gauge your time from there. Often I’ll let an area soak for 20-30 mins. For Tangent, Exact, Moloco, etc.
Older Athearn and more “shake the box” type freight cars…they’re in a 5-10 mins window. In fact, just a Q-Tip is enough to remove lettering.

      @SootheMilwaukeeRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

John, you really know your Canadian railroads power history. Thank you for taking the time to share the info.
I still have not forgotten about your previous posts & inquiries. It just takes me a lot longer to respond to multiple question posts. They’re excellent questions, so I want to provide adequate responses.
For this set of questions? We’ve got:
1: How much into PT Mods?
$24.95 Knobs Bell & Reverser Upgrade
      tinyurl.com/5cxpsepd
      $9.67 Black Back
      tinyurl.com/2yczkexk
      $1.25 Battery Enclosure
      tinyurl.com/2p9wt2k9
After taxes we’ll say $40 for materials.
Time, tools and paint are not included.
And this doesn’t include the “Special Edition” upgraded plate on one of the throttles “Aux Lts” (they’re extra - even when ordering a complete throttle).
      2: Would I sell a modified throttle?
I would sell one (if I did another), but I would not sell my “Aux Lts” throttle plates (they were a limited run). Also note the time and effort put into each adds up in a hurry. As I’ve recently cut both of mine down and really like the thinner style throttle.
3: How much for a modified PT?
A basic “Thin Throttle”, with black back, knob/button upgrades and smaller battery pack (w/external access). I’d say, all-in, total you’d be around $800-850 (that includes the throttle and the range would reflect the throttle selected - colored throttles cost more).
If someone wanted their throttle modified and they supplier all the upgraded items (from the list above), I’d do one for $250.
Note: Custom work for fellow modelers is not something I do very often. In a few select cases, I have done some stuff, but the reality is…I’m just a modeler too, tackling my own laundry list of projects. Priced to reflect my time, as time is the most invaluable thing I possess.
