I could go on for hours about that topic, cause it’s so true. Old SpongeBob had such a unique style and the coloring and scenes were very under stimulating in my opinion. Hell sometimes it was very quiet which is smth you don’t often see in cartoons. Now the newer SpongeBob is just bright colors, overly clean line work, and loud noises. It lacks the calming, nostalgic, and almost liminal edge of its former self.
It's like everybody from Bikini Bottom just suddenly left in a hurry, leaving certain things behind, such as clothes, pet food bowls, some trash. Really interesting to think about what may have prompted them to leave bikini bottom, or how they may have just simply disappeared without a trace.
Like that one episode where spongebob is all alone in bikini bottom and towards the end he makes a meat krabby patty Patrick puppet to prevent himself from going insane and the citizen come back and explain it was national no spongebob day
i like to think that mr. krabs ended up controlling the life of bikini bottomites and they all left to settle someplace else and escape full-on corporate control, kinda like how americans living in the east started moving out westward for better living conditions

Is the sensation that something is watching you or just there stalking, when in reality there is no one there Once i was trying to play a 1v1 2fort match with my brother in tf2, but he couldn't connect so i started exploring the map, but i had to leave bc it was so overwhelmingly scary and awkward seeijg that map usually filled to the brim with players, so empty, like if the game was abandoned years ago and i was the only player online
This just makes me think of the end of SpongeBob when the series inevitably wraps up. Like all these photos were taken after the filming of the last episode, most of the crew has gone home and all that’s left now is an empty set and the memories of legendary show that helped define so many childhoods, and will be remembered for generations to come.
For me this felt like going back to a place from your childhood after years, to realise the place has been abandoned and changed a lot. Nostalgic at the same time
The Toys-R-Us in my town went out of business like 5 or six years ago and the building was then converted into a thrift store. I never went back to the building after that, until this Christmas I went there to get a dirty Santa gift. I tried capturing the nostalgia of the place but to no avail. It had been so long. Everything just felt so much... smaller, now. Even the parking felt small. Although it did feel a bit nostalgic from the outside simply because of geographic location.

Sometimes, I wish we could slip between both realms, seeing both a world with and without us. 2 worlds that exist together...nobody would know when someone may phase out of existence forever in this world. It’s amazing how liminal it feels. We all grew up with SpongeBob, so there’s a sense of nostalgia. It’s also a wierd sense of a place with such expressive characters being empty and lifeless. This is one of the best ways to create a liminal feeling inside the viewer.
How long gone are the days when I sat in front of the TV and watched this with my mother. Those were the days when I was happy, when my family was healthy and optimistic, and they were having fun as if they had no problems. The world was more colorful, life did not hurt, living did not taste bitter. There was more happiness and fun than pain, maybe those who drew Spongebob felt the same way when they drew it. I understand why my mom watches little kids' cartoons with me. While watching with me, she could put her troubles and concerns aside and be a child.

It’s like revisiting a playground from your childhood. Or busting out your old action figures that have been put away for several years. Maybe even decades. It’s the void you feel as you realize you’re getting older; and the things you used to prioritize have changed. Friends have become coworkers. Imagination has become determination; and childhood wonder has become a nostalgic memory you occasionally revisit like an old friend.
That’s how I’ve come to go through life. Cherish the past but don’t let it bog you down from making new memories. You have to enjoy life in the moment, don’t dwell too much no matter how much better things SEEMED before, you’re only going to hold yourself back. Rather, use the past as motivation and a reminder of what good memories you can make for yourself in the future. And revisit the past as an old friend when you are in need of guidance

Spongebob's art design is so comforting. It has that signature cartoon style but with its own twist. Removing the characters and just appreciating the well done backgrounds themselves while feeling liminal, also feels safe. I feel like I'm home.

I like that people all feel differently about this. Some people feel unsettled, some people feel cozy, some people feel nostalgic, some people feel uncomfortable or sad, and I personally feel a little mix of all of that. It doesn’t help that I’m in a dorm at midnight and it’s all quiet and a little spooky, but despite that the feeling of comfort is still there. If anything, that’s props to everyone who worked on the show. They created something so iconic and special that despite it feeling so lonely and empty and liminal, so many of us still feel so warm and cozy when we look at it. This reminds me of a time that once was. But not anymore. And the sad part is, eventually it'll be completely lost to time. Everything we once knew will be gone. Forgotten. We need to appreciate the good times.
This just makes me think of passing away, and what is left behind. It’s not really sad or creepy, just empty. Something multiple generations care about and live like SpongeBob, left vacant to the flow of time, and none of us can stop it.
Welp that's how life goes, every adventure has an end. Every start has to be finished. Enjoy these things because it exists, sadness is inevitable we only can do is to smile.
The bygone era when all that was important in life was SpongeBob and avengers toys. As I grow older, the memories fade. I don’t want to forget the good old days when I could not have to worry about getting a job, or not having gone through some of the shit I’ve been through, and instead just sit in my room and watch my old ninja turtles dvd or play with my now lost Lego sets. I miss the days of sitting in the car and asking my dad to pop in a SpongeBob dvd or avengers or fantastic four. I miss coming home from daycare and just watching Tom and Jerry and looney tunes with my mom until my dad came home from work. I miss playing just dance 3 with my older sisters, or new super Mario bros Wii, or mortal kombat vs dc, or sonic generations. I miss watching transformers with my old friend brendon. I miss all of it. I don’t want these memories to be lost to time, but I know they will, and it scares me to know that, I might never remember certain things ever again.

I've recently gone down a rabbit hole of nostalgia and memories. And this video gave me the feeling of memory. Of remembering simpler times when life wasn't so... difficult. I remember being an innocent child who spent time with his friends and then just came home and played Minecraft and watched SpongeBob. And it's so sad to me knowing I will probably never have those times back, and that I wished I had embraced those times more. I'm still young, 16, but life isn't the same as it was years ago. I don't remember feeling sad or dark or depressed and alone as a child. And stuff like this reminds me of that. It's beautiful. I miss the simpler times.
And I miss the things I was able to do when I was 16. Just play video games outside of school and not be pressured toward anything. You still have a bit of youth left while you’re in school, enjoy it

i genuinely appreciate this, being able to rediscover past settings with no goofy music or just anything happening in general brings a sort of peaceful experience to it, we get to just take in the scenery and remember what went on there and why it happens

The creator died while the show ran and now is controlled by money hungry bureaucrats that didn't understand why the show did as well as it did. Now the show is textbook definition of flanderization. All the characters are exaggerated. Spongebob is no longer silly but sane. He just dumb. Squidward just a bad person. The show is no longer the peak and it will never be.

This got me right in the feels haha Every generation has their cartoon and SpongeBob was mine. I'm only 1 year older than the show so I practically have been watching it since before I can remember. This had such a bittersweet feeling to it to watch and it really has me thinking about just how ridiculously successful the series is. Most kids cartoons have to rebrand at some point, or run into a spinoff but SpongeBob kept its setting and its characters. The animation might be tweaked a bit but the changes have been gradual. Most adult cartoons don't make it past 4 seasons but next year, but it's pushing on to season 15. Unfortunately though, just like many of us have to or have had to put their dogs down, it's about time for Nickelodeon to let SpongeBob rest. When they finally do though, I'd hope the finale had something like this in it at the close credits; only for the melancholy and memories to be interrupted by a still shot of SpongeBob and Patrick smiling for the camera.

Pieces of their childhood started to come back as they explored a city seemingly left abandoned. As if the cartoon characters they watched as kids really did exist. There was evidence of life having lived there at some point. Yet, nothing. The show had ended years ago. Evidence suggest that the place had been abandoned around the same time the show was taken off the air. It was later turned into a tourist attraction targeted towards people born in the 2000's that may have grown up with the show. But nothing about the characters whereabouts are known or if they even existed. Hell, it might've even been a prank from the shows creator to commemorate what the show once was before they passed away. Im hoping though, if the characters really did exist. That these photos we were able to take are preserved throughout time even when the city inevitably disappears with age as well.

Theory: the space dolphin from the SpongeBob movie came down to warn sponge and his friends about the impending doom. It was left a ghost town and people left all of their belongings in a rush.
This made me realize what if in the spongebob universe, all of the characters are actors for their own tv show, and it ended, then everyone moved on with ther own seperate lives, but the show's film set is still there and abandoned.

One of the things I miss most is when SpongeBob had this unique aesthetic.
I could go on for hours about that topic, cause it’s so true. Old SpongeBob had such a unique style and the coloring and scenes were very under stimulating in my opinion. Hell sometimes it was very quiet which is smth you don’t often see in cartoons. Now the newer SpongeBob is just bright colors, overly clean line work, and loud noises. It lacks the calming, nostalgic, and almost liminal edge of its former self.
It's like everybody from Bikini Bottom just suddenly left in a hurry, leaving certain things behind, such as clothes, pet food bowls, some trash. Really interesting to think about what may have prompted them to leave bikini bottom, or how they may have just simply disappeared without a trace.

This just makes me think of the end of SpongeBob when the series inevitably wraps up. Like all these photos were taken after the filming of the last episode, most of the crew has gone home and all that’s left now is an empty set and the memories of legendary show that helped define so many childhoods, and will be remembered for generations to come.
For me this felt like going back to a place from your childhood after years, to realise the place has been abandoned and changed a lot. Nostalgic at the same time

The Toys-R-Us in my town went out of business like 5 or six years ago and the building was then converted into a thrift store. I never went back to the building after that, until this Christmas I went there to get a dirty Santa gift. I tried capturing the nostalgia of the place but to no avail. It had been so long. Everything just felt so much... smaller, now. Even the parking felt small. Although it did feel a bit nostalgic from the outside simply because of geographic location.

It’s amazing how liminal it feels. We all grew up with SpongeBob, so there’s a sense of nostalgia. It’s also a wierd sense of a place with such expressive characters being empty and lifeless. This is one of the best ways to create a liminal feeling inside the viewer.
How long gone are the days when I sat in front of the TV and watched this with my mother.
Those were the days when I was happy, when my family was healthy and optimistic, and they were having fun as if they had no problems. The world was more colorful, life did not hurt, living did not taste bitter. There was more happiness and fun than pain, maybe those who drew Spongebob felt the same way when they drew it. I understand why my mom watches little kids' cartoons with me. While watching with me, she could put her troubles and concerns aside and be a child.

It’s the void you feel as you realize you’re getting older; and the things you used to prioritize have changed. Friends have become coworkers. Imagination has become determination; and childhood wonder has become a nostalgic memory you occasionally revisit like an old friend.
That’s how I’ve come to go through life. Cherish the past but don’t let it bog you down from making new memories. You have to enjoy life in the moment, don’t dwell too much no matter how much better things SEEMED before, you’re only going to hold yourself back. Rather, use the past as motivation and a reminder of what good memories you can make for yourself in the future. And revisit the past as an old friend when you are in need of guidance

Spongebob's art design is so comforting. It has that signature cartoon style but with its own twist. Removing the characters and just appreciating the well done backgrounds themselves while feeling liminal, also feels safe. I feel like I'm home.

I like that people all feel differently about this. Some people feel unsettled, some people feel cozy, some people feel nostalgic, some people feel uncomfortable or sad, and I personally feel a little mix of all of that. It doesn’t help that I’m in a dorm at midnight and it’s all quiet and a little spooky, but despite that the feeling of comfort is still there. If anything, that’s props to everyone who worked on the show. They created something so iconic and special that despite it feeling so lonely and empty and liminal, so many of us still feel so warm and cozy when we look at it.

This reminds me of a time that once was. But not anymore. And the sad part is, eventually it'll be completely lost to time. Everything we once knew will be gone. Forgotten. We need to appreciate the good times.
This just makes me think of passing away, and what is left behind. It’s not really sad or creepy, just empty. Something multiple generations care about and live like SpongeBob, left vacant to the flow of time, and none of us can stop it.

The bygone era when all that was important in life was SpongeBob and avengers toys. As I grow older, the memories fade. I don’t want to forget the good old days when I could not have to worry about getting a job, or not having gone through some of the shit I’ve been through, and instead just sit in my room and watch my old ninja turtles dvd or play with my now lost Lego sets. I miss the days of sitting in the car and asking my dad to pop in a SpongeBob dvd or avengers or fantastic four. I miss coming home from daycare and just watching Tom and Jerry and looney tunes with my mom until my dad came home from work. I miss playing just dance 3 with my older sisters, or new super Mario bros Wii, or mortal kombat vs dc, or sonic generations. I miss watching transformers with my old friend brendon. I miss all of it. I don’t want these memories to be lost to time, but I know they will, and it scares me to know that, I might never remember certain things ever again.

I've recently gone down a rabbit hole of nostalgia and memories. And this video gave me the feeling of memory. Of remembering simpler times when life wasn't so... difficult. I remember being an innocent child who spent time with his friends and then just came home and played Minecraft and watched SpongeBob. And it's so sad to me knowing I will probably never have those times back, and that I wished I had embraced those times more. I'm still young, 16, but life isn't the same as it was years ago. I don't remember feeling sad or dark or depressed and alone as a child. And stuff like this reminds me of that. It's beautiful. I miss the simpler times.

The creator died while the show ran and now is controlled by money hungry bureaucrats that didn't understand why the show did as well as it did. Now the show is textbook definition of flanderization. All the characters are exaggerated. Spongebob is no longer silly but sane. He just dumb. Squidward just a bad person. The show is no longer the peak and it will never be.

Every generation has their cartoon and SpongeBob was mine. I'm only 1 year older than the show so I practically have been watching it since before I can remember. This had such a bittersweet feeling to it to watch and it really has me thinking about just how ridiculously successful the series is. Most kids cartoons have to rebrand at some point, or run into a spinoff but SpongeBob kept its setting and its characters. The animation might be tweaked a bit but the changes have been gradual. Most adult cartoons don't make it past 4 seasons but next year, but it's pushing on to season 15.
Unfortunately though, just like many of us have to or have had to put their dogs down, it's about time for Nickelodeon to let SpongeBob rest.
When they finally do though, I'd hope the finale had something like this in it at the close credits; only for the melancholy and memories to be interrupted by a still shot of SpongeBob and Patrick smiling for the camera.
It's just cartoon, don't cry for cartoon.

"The divers were in shock. Not only at the seemingly manmade architecture but it was the fact that the divers recognized the structures. Pieces of their childhood started to come back as they explored a city seemingly left abandoned. As if the cartoon characters they watched as kids really did exist. There was evidence of life having lived there at some point. Yet, nothing. The show had ended years ago. Evidence suggest that the place had been abandoned around the same time the show was taken off the air. It was later turned into a tourist attraction targeted towards people born in the 2000's that may have grown up with the show. But nothing about the characters whereabouts are known or if they even existed. Hell, it might've even been a prank from the shows creator to commemorate what the show once was before they passed away. Im hoping though, if the characters really did exist. That these photos we were able to take are preserved throughout time even when the city inevitably disappears with age as well.

Theory: the space dolphin from the SpongeBob movie came down to warn sponge and his friends about the impending doom. It was left a ghost town and people left all of their belongings in a rush.

This made me realize what if in the spongebob universe, all of the characters are actors for their own tv show, and it ended, then everyone moved on with ther own seperate lives, but the show's film set is still there and abandoned.
