For a mild case of canine constipation, you can try a home remedy. If it is taking your pooch longer than normal to poop, he is straining particularly hard while going and/or he is only producing a small amount of stool, it is likely that he has a mild case of constipation.
"You may also want to add some canned dog food to Fido’s diet for a couple of days. This will add more moisture to his diet and help to rehydrate him. Don’t switch to a 100% canned diet from kibble, because that could lead to more digestive problems. Just switch out 25%-50% of your dog’s kibble for canned food."

My dog didn't poop for 5 days with no other symptoms other than her biting at her back end. We gave her a 1/2 teaspoon of mineral oil and 1/2 of a baby suppository and she vomited once and began pooping continuously for 2 days. She then didn't poop again for another 4 days even with giving her pumpkin, Metamucil, chicken broth and a limited wet diet. She tries and shakes trying so much but nothing comes out. We finally got in a vet for x-rays and we were sure we would find an issue, but nothing. Vet prescribed Lactulose Solution and a probiotic dog food. Next day, still nothing. I continued the vet's protocol but replaced a meal with cottage cheese, mackerel and flax oil. She's been going every since. Don't lose hope.

@@mangojuice7322 Yes! She's doing much better and pooping much more regularly since we've been giving her the Lactulose and feeding her tripe with probiotic powder on it and also goat's milk. About twice weekly we have also been giving her the Budwig Protocol diet, which is cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed and flaxseed oil mixed with canned mackerel or sardines. Occasionally I'll mix some cactus juice in with it that usually works almost instantly. I've also recently read that adding digestive enzymes and Slippery Elm Bark will really help their digestive system. She was not going at all for weeks at a time, so I'm so happy that we have now learned all of this. Hopefully I can help someone else that is going through this, without having to resort to expensive surgeries.
I’m going to try all that you said & see if anything works! My dog hasn’t been pooping for about 4 days now. Took her to the emergency vet, had to pay $125 just to be seen by the doctor. Then pay $300 for X-rays to see if there was something blocking her from using the bathroom… just for them to say they found gas bubbles…. And nothing else. Literally a waste of time and money. So I’m hoping this works!!! I will update you guys!!
@@eliciamonroe1994 please don't do the baby suppository. I feel it did more harm than good. The best things that I have found that worked are the probiotics, digestive enzymes & Lactulose Solution. Another great remedy I've recently found is mixing aloe vera with her food. I make my own at home, and you have to strip the green & rinse the clear strips in water first, but you can also buy pure aloe vera. You can also make your own Lactulose Solution at home.

Exactly! I don’t think I’ll ever understand why people are so rude when someone is taking time from their own life to try to be helpful. Y’all do realize how convenient everything is with the internet at your fingertips? Not very long ago, if your dog got sick or if your child got sick, there wasn’t anything around for help other than the emergency vet for the animals, if you lived close enough to a city that had one, or obviously the hospital emergency room for your kids! The pharmacist was probably the one person who could help with either species, but they weren’t open all the time! Everything is so hurried now, I got it, but if someone is offering their help, their gift of knowledge, caring, assistance without asking for anything back, maybe we could, at the very least, pay them with being grateful & kind. That would probably have taken less time than some of the snarky remarks. And what purpose did an ugly remark serve? Did it make you feel better in your life or help with the situation you’re having with your dog? If you don’t like the advice just don’t take it. Thank you for others sharing some things about your dogs…I plan to try a few of the tips! Many blessings!

Please don't wait. If u see your dog get unusually constipated, when he never has been before, hurry and do something. If he doesn't poop in a day, and won't eat or drink, take him in. I waited thinking he would poop and he deteriorated bad before I could get a vet to see him. The vets I talked to don't treat dying dogs like a big deal... They made me wait and wait.. Take your dog sooner than you think, before it becomes an emergency.
Update: might look like constipation but it could be a bladder issue. My dog died from a stopped up bladder, his urine crystallized into a sand like substance and blocked his urethra. I really thought it was constipation for the longest time. If dogs straining to poop, and no pee, or very little pee is coming out, take him in quickly. They said girls don't have the issue as much as boy dogs.
My chihuahua was given a inch like peace of cooked beef and ever since has not pooped he pi’s fine but is going on two days with out pooping and just a while ago through up like yellow watery stuff I’m so worried is that ok she’s just wants to be covered and left alone

My st bernard Tilly seems to be constipated. Peeing ok, but attempting to poop with only little coming out. She does seem to be lethargic too. Been two days now. Has eaten twice with pumpkin added.

@@geoffreyjones3832 It works. You have to juggle dietary fibers. If you stick to one all the time their body gets used to it. Like going from red meat to steamed veggies. A coconut oil may help lubricate their intestines. The fiber will absorb moisture and soften their stool.

i have the same problem. locked down, but with my dog we just found out he has worms. and hes on meds for them but lately i haven't smelled new poop. only seen old ones and today before i gave him a bath he was trying to poop but he couldn't. idk if he was shy because i was watching him but he couldn't. my brother gave him some cream and water thinking he will pass but he still hasn't. i have an enema tube i was thinking of using that but i know my dog will surely get pissed with me. ill try the olive oil on the food and see if that works. if not ill call the vet and ask for further assistance.

I’m currently having the same problem. I brought my dog to a vet 3 days ago. My dog was pregnant and was diagnosed with parvo. At least 1 tablespoon. More for larger dogs. You can't really give too much pumpkin. It's really healthy for dogs, but should be part of a balanced meal.

I have a beautiful nine year old Shih Tzu who went and got her shots at Markham animal clinic and hasn’t been the same sense I’ve watched her she’s constipated high sent her back on emergency visits Dollar bills each visit and I have research tonight because I thought that my nine-year-old Shih Tzu was dying she’s slow she can’t get up the stairs she’s constipated so the doctor said another dollar sign for this coming up Monday and after extensive research if I can try a couple of teaspoons of pumpkin she might be able to go freely. Took my 8 week old Shih Tzu to the emergency ER because when i came home she was crying really bad and dragging her but in a circle on the carpet, i tried to call her to me and she couldn't even walk, the vet at the ER really didn't do nothing but give her pain medication for shivering, my dog keeps trying to poop with nothing coming out at all and shes crying really bad. Regular pumpkin works just as good as canned pumpkin, perhaps even better. Never use pumpkin pie filling, as it contains nutmeg which is deadly to dogs.

i'm not a vet. i have a senior dog who forgets that she is thirsty & rarely drinks. that leads to dehydration. anyways, I put a splash of clear pedialyte mixed w/distilled water into a watering can & pour that into the front of her teeth. we spill alot but i hear her take a couple of sips so that is good. OR i splash 2 tablespoons of store bought bone broth or juice from cooking bones into distilled water and she'll drink on her own & at least 4 times/week I mix a tablespoon of bone broth into her food.

Also, Take your dog to the emergency vet if your dogs stomach is distended and firm. Your dog also may be crying, lethargic, maybe panting and refusing to eat.
These are all signs of Fecal Impaction, or Twisted stomachs, Bpth of which can be deadly, Esoecially a twisted stomach, which requires corrective surgery or the dog will die quite quickly!!
The distended abdomen in a twisted stomach is caused by gases released naturally by the stomach. When the insides twist, The gas can no longer escape, leading to increasing pressure which can eventually rupture the stomach causing death. This is most common in larger dog breads and certain breeds are more prone than others, Please research the conditions often associated with your dog’s breed(s) or Suspected breeds. It is important to be aware of common problems so that you can be aware and educated to look for the signs and step in before it’s too late.

@@charlenenorthum4355 If you don’t have family members or friendly neighbors who can come assist you in taking your pets to the vet, You should try Calling various local Vet Clinics. They’re phone numbers can usually be found on their websites or just by googling. Some vets are willing to personally come to your home to see your animals but not all will do this. Sometimes charitable organizations do this for the elderly and disabled. They come to help care for the pets and take the pets for regular check ups.
If something is found that requires care in a facility (can’t be treated in your home) they will take the animal back to their clinic and return them to your home once care is completed.
I don’t really know how common this is but I have heard of it, so i wish you luck in finding something like this! It’s important for everyone to have a plan in case of emergencies, because you never know when it might save your furry friend’s life!
