My dog is 13, she has been constipated for two days and doesn't want to eat because her stomach hurts. She wouldn't even eat a little lick of peanut butter. I've called 15 vets and no one will see her for at least two weeks. (I cannot afford an emergency vet my father (its his dog) won't contribute enough to get her to emergency. I was recommended by one vets office to give her just a little olive oil (1/2 teaspoon). I'm going to try the pumpkin puree, and the massage. I had to fight with my dad to get him to believe she was sick (he's convinced anytime she's ill that shes faking it for attention)- he wouldn't believe me last time she got sick and I had to borrow money from a friend to take her to the vet and she had a severe UTI.
GraveGirl, this article by Dr. Greer may help you> www.revivalanimal.com/learning-center/how-to-help-dog-constipation. Giving a little karo syrup by mouth may also help. The Paws Squad
@@RevivalAnimal I actually just got a call from a vet clinic, the vet made time after the closing hours to see her. Appointment is in 3 hours. Thank goodness
Later part of the video was useful but the first question was never answered: The "how to know if dog is constipated?" question was sidestepped. "yeah that's important".
You may observe your dog circling excessively, scooting (dragging bottom along the ground) or squatting frequently, or even crying out in severe cases. Other clinical signs include decreased appetite, vomiting, small amounts of watery feces or feces that contains mucus (without a normal stool), and weight loss. The Paws Squad
@@RevivalAnimal Thank you sincerely for the quick response, very appreciated - our dog has been suffering we are not sure what is going on, one minute she is fine and the next minute panting, she ate some boneless chicken the other day and we thought she might have gas or constipation and this info helps greatly. We'll call our vet too but its good to learn these things! Thanks!
My dog strains and strains and just pushes out sticky mush. and it clings to her so I have to remove it and then bathe her. she has a healthy appetite. I'll try the fiber. any other ideas for that particular situation?
I would recommend to add electrolytes to the drinking water and a little karo syrup can also help. I would also recommend a probiotic to help with digestion. Here's the link for the GI synbiotics> www.revivalanimal.com/product/doc-roys-gi-synbiotics. The 454gm granules can be added into the food. Sheryl at Revival
Shirley, we start with adding an electrolyte to replenish lost body fluids and a probiotic to help with digestion and reduce diarrhea. Normal diarrhea will last 48/72 hrs. If it lasts longer, then we recommend taking a stool sample to your vet and ask them to do a PCR test to determine the cause. Sheryl at Revival

Wonderful! I'm so glad to hear you have an appointment! Thank you for letting us know GraveGirl! The Paws Squad.
@@RevivalAnimal news was the opposite of wonderful. All dogs go to heaven
I'm so sorry GraveGirl. You cared for her for 13 yrs, in dog years. In ours, she was 91 years old. She lived a good life with you taking care of her.

MINERAL OIL.
Help
Is coconut oil good for dogs to help poop
Tina, it can help. Karo syrups is also good and adding electrolytes in the drinking water or exchanged it completely can also help. Sheryl at Revival
