Winter came early to the cabin this year!

  • The weather changed quick, one night the temperatures dropped to -5F (-20C) and about 10" of snow fell and it's only November. Well this gave me a chance to get some seat time on the tractor and give my new chains a try. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come? Bring it on!

    Nothing like the sound of a Russian Burp Gun in the morning ! I used to have a John Deere 750 and I mounted an 8' Fischer Plow to the inside of the bucket using 2 pieces of 6'' X 6'' angle iron. I had to manually pivot it but it sure worked good. Great video.

    I have the Kioti DK45HS ...Spray furniture polish on the inside of your bucket and on your grader blade and on the inside of your wheels and spray the inside of your snowblower the snow will not stick to anything and slide right off. You might want to put chains on the front tires also. I have chains on all four wheels with my 4x4 kioti. Lake George, NY

    Really good video. I am impressed by the Kioti. I agree that backing up to blow snow is a pain “ in the neck”. A front blower would be more to my liking, but the cost would likely be high. Sounds like a whopper of a storm coming tomorrow night into Wednesday. You might just get to try those chains yet. You folks could get a foot plus. Down River in Fredericton, we are on the bordline which usually means messy. If the winter keeps up with the fall, I fear that we will likely see some major flooding again. Funny how machine gun fire can destroy one’s train of thought😀

    Great video. If I were you I would look for a decent hp motor, make up some mounts and convert that blower to run off the front like a quad blower so you could still have rear blade use or look for decent hydraulic motor , make some mounts for the blower with quick connect like a bucket and run right off the hydros.

    There' no doubt that a true synthetic oil (vs. standard motor oil or even the synthetic "blend") is a huge plus in cold-weather starting. And good to go discreet with the solar panels, even if you lose some efficiency. As you point out, it's still plenty.

    I'm in the northwest of England, we've had no frost's at all, most unusual. as for building a cabin in the wood's, we got very little woods or forest's left. Even if we had some forests there's no way we could build a cabin, we'd never get planning permission. I live on a Narrowboat on the canal system that's about as isolated as you can get in England.

    I was expecting your video's to be on the subject of day to day survival in the cabin. How you stay warm...how you cook...what you cook....what communications you have...what entertainment you have...etc. But each video deals mainly with your snow clearing euipment and video of you clearing snow. Oh there's a place for that subject obviously, but it does get a bit repetitious. Oh well....each to his own.

      I haven't made a snow removal video all summer. 😁 .. I do have several videos on cooking firewood, communication, hunting, gardening, etc. Cheers. 🍺

    Love the videos. It would be cool to have a video giving a full tour of the cabin and the land around it. Almost like a map so we can see the property. Do you deer hunt there at all?

    • @NB88
      @NB88  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do but it's bucks only and it hasn't been a good year. Deer population seems to be down in places.

    GP Outdoors has a neighbour that has an L series Kubota that has a front mounted snow blower that is powered off the back PTO. This might be something you might look at.

    Here, above central Ontario , 10 inches on the ground and another 8 coming down while I type , too much too early , but the landscape looks awesome . Winter always brings thoughts of projects for inside my shop for me , how do you occupy your time at the cabin in the winter without a heated shop ? Thanks for the vid & those chains look vicious .

      Bill Tingay, I do understand it. It's a bunch of shit. You people act like world is going to end next week. It's the assholes that are making money on this lie. Like Al Gore. It made him worth millions for making all his fake bullshit movies on the subject. So go hide your head under a pillow snowflake waiting for the world to end.

      @@possibilityspace I don't give a shit what you think Lefty Lena. Your the people that put so much regulations on industry that you people were bringing this country to a halt. A little hint the world will not end tomorrow. Worry about getting a job and not relying on a socialist government to give you everything for free snowflake.

    Just a friendly suggestion , not being critical.....wonder if you could maybe put or construct some sort of cover for your solar panels to protect from weather?? If so please share

    • @NB88
      @NB88  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have something simple I made from a tarp. I only cover them if there is an ice storm, that makes it much easier than scrapping them.
