Can relate to that had the same problem even with the engine out,I will probably have to do it again hopefully with the right cork end gaskets,or I can live with an oil leak, they do say if a pommy car is not leaking oil theres no oil in it.
My Superminx doesnt leak Ive cleaned it underneath and no drips, I had the engine out to fit the sumpset its easier. Depending on age there are different sump gaskets for 1724 engines but 66 blocks should match genuine Rootes parts they were the originals.
@everything-hillman66 there would of been a time I probably would of panicked if I discovered that My father has a hillman same as yours but white with a blue stripe they got a splash of bad luck the chassis had a rust patch that I couldn't see (the car was on the ground) but a mate has a course thing so getting it done for a couple weekends digging them a car park I have a 1952 prefect got it as my first car came with no engine have a high mile engine in it but isn't happy can't figure out what is wrong with it but have a engine in the back of the shed that's been honed but can't afford to finish it because I've just finished a course so have no money had it about a year
I read that if the engine revs drop at idle when you depress the clutch, this indicates that the bearings are worn. This happens when I depress the clutch. However, there are no noises coming from the bottom end. I have an oil pressure gauge to install, so it will be interesting to see what the oil pressure is on this engine. I read these 1725 engines are good for 200000 miles before a rebuild.
Thank you for that. I shall now be very aware! Safe driving!
Thanks, you too!

Yeah it is not an easy job. A few leaks are expected in these cars. Thanks for watching

Thanks Bryce for your help on this one.
The connecting rods are meant to move side to side a little bit but not back and forth
Phew, that is good to know.
