I was with OSHA as a trainer for about 12 years and believe me watching these guys puts a lump in my throat you have to give them credit though they are pretty good machinist.
What I want to know is how in the hell do you prpperly weld the coolant passages you can't get to. There is no way that head won't leak coolant internally after this so called repair.
I'd like it better if they cleaned the metal before brazing. Lots of folks on Forged & Fire have lost trying to forge weld dirty, greasy metal. Why lap the valves and not mark them for the same hole??
Pienso lo mismo, una cosa es hacer lo que hicieron que parece una reparación satisfactoria, lo correcto armar el motor y someterlo a trabajo. Y de esa manera saber si lo que se hizo es lo correcto.
Met an old farmer turned machinist/welder. He had an old cast motor that he welded more times than anyone should be able to weld. He said he used to pour 🫗 in the metal and recast it. And then weld and machine it back to what it is supposed to be. After a while, he just welded the cracks and heat treated it. It was more weld metal than cast. But he said they just don't make them like this anymore and better to fix what can not be created again than to use what breaks every hour. Much ❤
Congrats for all these skilled men.👏But unfortunately;the welding of cast aluminum materials are not safe for a long time.Because of impurities and small differences of the qualities between welding materials and main body. The high temperature of the engine causes different expansions to the different material of the welding parts which will cause inevitable cracks. So,this kind of fixings are not durable for a long time..😥
@@nick1234567891231didn’t look like it. There’s rust in the water jackets indicating iron or steel, not aluminium. Oxidised aluminium is a white salt like material

Boy that's a small wheel to run on the surface grinder like that I'm surprised it's still good and strong it's got a strength on that size. I be using a much bigger wheel and a cover to protect that thing. In case it came out flying the kids should have safety goggles on because that throws out pieces of fragments of metal when it's grinding and everything. Thank you. Good thing OSHA doesn't go there. They close that whole place down on that one.

I'm not even gonna read the comments because I know what they'll be saying. But, to all the naysayers, do some research and find the guy who welded 6 segments of 351 Cleveland head together and put this assembly on a 300 inline 6 and raced it. Possibly Hot Rod or Engine Annual from the late '70s. Another guy did it with a Chevy 292 and the name of the article was Ten Second Six.
I've never saw a coal lump on this shape and color before. Interesting work, very low tech. My father had a 6 cylinder inline, it is common for the top part to " banana " shape and lose compression on 1 and 6.
