  • How to fix a Range Rover door that will not open
    It seems like an impossible task, you cannot open the door, you cannot remove the door card as you cannot get to the fittings (and its flanged in any case). Your options seems destructive, but trust me, just get a hacksaw blade, open the back door and you can cut the staple. In this video we looked at that yanked lock and see what can be done with it!
    It may also be possible with a little endoscope and a long pipe to lubricate this via the window opening, something that is worth a shot if you have the bits to hand.
    This is on a Landrover Range Rover L322.

    I'm now going to go out and fix the passenger door lock on my range rover as a result of this brilliant video.

    Did this but with a reciprocating saw. Took about 6 seconds. Well worth borrowing or buying one of you don't have one.

      It was a nightmare. Literally a few mm per stroke and it needed reseating every few strokes. I was damn careful to check the lock was working before reinstalling it!

    Great video. My Range Rover Sport (2009) drivers door would not open from the outside but was fine from the inside. As is shown in this video the lock needed lubricating. I tried squirting WD40 into the lock from the latch area but couldn't get the lube where it was needed. The latch is held in by three star drive screws and not wanting to remove the door interior panel and the lock to lube it I removed the three star drive screws one at a time and squirted loads of WD40 in through the screw holes. Result door now opens fine from the outside handle and it only took a couple of minutes. I have since been round all 4 locks lubricating then in this way.

      @@backofficeshow Nice! Good to know that modern vehicle repairs are still possible! I Iove avoiding having to visit the stealers (ehem, dealers) for something a technically minded person could do themselves...

    It annoys me that the "designers" of these things don't make it a requirement to have a manual release that always works. Even a tiny hole to poke a probe into would be appreciated.

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose they are worried that car thieves would make use of the same hole. It's tricky for sure!
      It's like the double locking mechanisms, I suppose those are there to annoy thieves!

    But how do I get a door open that the electronics won't open? I have a neighbor that keeps going in from the passenger door because his driver door won't open.

      Does turning the key in the lock do anything? It would be good to know in order to figure out if it's an electrical issue or a mechanical one

    I'm not a car person... So when my 3 series 2 door BMW failed to get its MOT ,,,on the fact that the mechanic couldn't get the driver's door open... I let out a big sigh!! Picking the car up and getting in through the passenger side and working my way over to the driver's side to drive the car back home.. I spent the next 90 minutes taking the passenger door card off and checking out the way the locking mechanism worked ...... Not looking forward to the task in front of me.. I moved all my tools to the driver's door..... That's when I heard it!!! That audible thunk noise the car makes when you unlock the door with the key fob !!! Trying the driver's door... It opened!!! To this day ...I have no idea why... My father had a phrase he use to say when things like this happen... Well son...that's the joys of motoring!! 🙂
