I’m going to make a video call “Eternabond 1 year of procrastination” because I watched that video a year ago and still thinking about doing it but haven’t gotten around to it 🤦🏼♂️ 😂
Followed your Eternabond installation instructions late Summer 2023 and no regrets! Looks good as day installed, and confident this was a great solution to my 2 year old Rockwood travel trailer roof showing signs of edge seams starting to open.
Just installed Eternabond yesterday. 8x30, 2005 5th wheel, did just the main roof, got 2 - 4"x50' rolls, still a few feet left on each. Covered the metal screw trim and onto the roof. Installed all off using an extension ladder, fairly easy once I got the knack. Pressed in place with hand. Biggest point is all to be applied to must be clean and dry, dry and drier. Just wiping dew off won't do it. Wish I would have done this years ago. Looks good and if it last as long as they say, I (age 68) probably will never see it fail.
I do some commercial roofing and use this type of tape for TPO repairs. I used it on my camper and the results have been great. I spent a lot of time prepping the roof before hand to get a good bond and then pressed it down with a silicone roller that we use on TPO heat weld seams. That worked really well getting it pressed in.
Nice! I used the same roller and feature it in my other video during the installation process. Good to know it’s working well on commercial projects as well. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😁
Used three years ago on Aliner seams, holding up great. This stuff is terrific, no more taping seams and using messy chaulking compounds which look like crap.
When my Lance 1995 travel trailer was new, I put Eternabond tape on the roof seams where it meets the side walls. Still looks awesome. I originally put it there to prevent black streaks from the walls flexing. Year 2 its holding up great! I used about 40 feet
Last spring I found the seal around the bathroom skylight had cracks. I didn't have any lap sealant, but had eternabond. I had seen your first video and figured I would give it a try. All types of weather for a year, a trip from Missouri to Alaska and back, totalling 13,000 miles, and still holding great. I'm going to do thr rest of the seals, and know I won't have to worry about leaks. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
It’s a good brand of tape…if you want to tape things…that being said, I do some RV roof repairs here in Florida and have found the putty version of Flex Seal is insanely long lasting and easy to apply. I can do a travel trailer roof with about 40 bucks worth and a chip brush, after cleaning with medium-drying lacquer thinner(not acetone, acetone severely weakens plastics.
I just did this I think it’s a great idea I should have done it years ago.I went over it with liquid rubber. If I wasn’t going to go over the entire roof with liquid rubber I would have went around the edge of the tape with Dicor for insurance.I used 4” tape so if water gets through either side & travels 2” from side to side then I guess it’s meant to be.If you prep it properly & roll it down it ain’t going anywhere especially after the summer sun gets on it & you check it periodically to make sure you didn’t miss anyway spots while rolling it down to contour.
after three years my roof is doing great with the tape up there. big thing to prep the places you want the tape to stick to. my sunny rook was built in 2001. holding up great. couple plastic problems. but replacing with parts not made of plastic. in 2025 all the counter tops will be replaced with real wood. they are ok, just changing the look with a newer up grad look. same with the cabinet doors. sure it is old. plenty of miles on it…but it is paid for. and still has miles left on it.
Hek, I bought some eternabond tape to the tug Pearl Coast and fixed a problematic leak in the upper house last year, still holding strong!!! Maybe I need to do a video😂 I did my 5ver’s roof like you a year ago after seeing your initial video - I’m happy as an itchy pig up against a picket fence with the results!!! 👍😃🍻
I've used Eternabond on my last 2 campers. I don't know why people are so skeptical. Maybe because they saw a cheap knockoff and thought it was Eternabond? I like the stuff.
I installed Eterna Bond tape on everything also a month after we purchased our Pinnacle that we ordered. 9 years with the tape and have never looked back. I wouldn’t do it any other way.
I did my roof in 2014, almost 10 years ago now, and the tape is showing a little wear - small hairline, spider cracks in the outer white jacket. The roof is a edpm roof and I too wrapped it over the side rails... The rubber sub layer of the tape is still perfect, although the rest of the roof is getting up there - the membrane will be 20 years old in 2 more years. I've never had to remove the tape, but would hope to never have to - I suspect a heat gun would have to be used. Happy Father's Day, Chris.
Appreciate that, thank you! Ten years is pretty solid if the tape is still sticking. It’s not the easiest thing to remove but that’s what so great about it. But it’s not impossible. Use a heat gun, some solvent like Kent’s Acrysol. Removing old lap sealant sucks too. Both take patience. Here’s a link to a video where a buddy of mine explains a great way to remove it. Around the 7 minute mark. th-cam.com/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Un0czBiCLUCrqjV0
@@WhyWait Thank you for that link! I like your method - simple and pretty much fool proof. When I did mine I used mineral spirits and acetone on the lap sealed joints. I quickly discovered they would blister the roof membrane if I did not get it on/off in seconds. Also, I did not have a roller so I used a palm sander with a cotton burp cloth clamped in place of sand paper. It made VERY quick work of permanently setting the tape, gliding over it in seconds. It was likely overkill based on what I'd seen in your video, but its what I had at the time.
I've been kicking it around on putting this on my awning in the closed position. I don't have the hard protective cover for it. It is a fairly new replacement, my original one tore right at the trailer. Due to the sun always hitting right there.
I needed a 2-sided tape to hang very thin mirrored rectangles I got off Amazon. I was unable to defeat the grip of the white cover of the RV tape. (In the freezer I thought I could defeat the grip - nope!) to make it 2-sided. Luckily, Eternabond has 2" 'Roofing and sealant tape for general construction with release paper on the topside. This is nearly as ornery as a Raccoon to handle, but at least there is a clear release tape on the top ...making a workable (somewhat) for two sided joins. I found the RV tape sticky - this is 2X! (likely partially due to thinness when the top layer is removed) My workaround was some windex or soapy water to keep my fingers wet while handling it. ...it didn't layout perfectly flat, but this was my first time. I have a feeling this 2-sided version has many more uses. Jim
i found stanliser bars work better than spacers under the legs. my drive way is at a slope so yes i do have homemade wood blocks. anout 1 foot tall. 24 inches sq. and my front legs are out quite a ways. my king pin is above my head ( (5ft- 10in). no wiggle with the support bars.
*Just seeing this Chris, everything looks good bud. The membrane lifting was an issue during the years our rigs were built. I'm not sure if it was the membrane glue or something else, but has nothing to do with Eternabond. I heard somewhere that GD used Dicor on some rigs, Alpha on others, and the ones with Dicor would lift the membrane at the lap sealant, but I can't confirm that. I would think the proper glue would hold it down regardless of lap sealant, so I tend to thing its the glue, or lack of enough of it actually being applied. Mine started lifting before the Eternabond was applied, but seems to have stopped at the edges of the Eternabond, probably due to the weight of the tape. Good video, hope you're well old friend. See you in Hershey?*
Hey Ross, thanks! I’ve been sending everybody over to your video and sharing that link where you show a good idea of how to remove Eternabond tape. 👍🏼 Hershey this year we aren’t sure of yet, lot going on this summer and it would be tight in scheduling with my job again.
I apologize if this question has been asked or addressed, I looked but didn't see it in previous comments. I like the concept and love eternabond, the only concern I have is knowing the strength of eternabond what happens when you need to remove it? In particular I'm thinking around sky lights that are notorious for cracking and need replacement.
It’s not the easiest thing to remove, that’s what is so great about it. But it’s not impossible. Use a heat gun, some solvent like Kent’s Acrysol. Removing old lap sealant sucks too. Thanks for the video. Your videos are awesome as always! I have had to use eternal bond in an area where I had a tear And it's holding up good 4 years later. I'm thinking about doing my entire RV But the question I have can the eternal bond be removed without destroying the roof? Just thinking about if I need to replace any of the sky lights, how would I do so if I cannot remove the eternal bond. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Keep posting. Love your videos !!!!
Thanks. Appreciate you watching. It will not hurt the roof removing it. It’s not the easiest thing to remove, that’s what is so great about it. But it’s not impossible. Use a heat gun, some solvent like Kent’s Acrysol. Heck..Removing old lap sealant sucks too. I want to do this to my roof. But I'm recovering from double total knee replacement, and I'm 62 years old, lol. But maybe after I'm recovered. Even then, it's a lot of work 👍🏻🇺🇲
4 years ago when I replaced the entire roof membrane and decking on our Motorhome I looked into and considered using Eternabond tape bit ad I temember it acoording to eternabond you're supposed to use lap sealant on all the edges. My concerns are that, and if a roof vent, fan or skylight beeds to be replaced it's an absolute bear to get off(which is both a good and bad thing). Dicor is way easier to remove. It's a very appealing idea, I may still do it at sometime in the futue. Thanks for posting and Safe Travels.

I have a 1977 Dodge Mallard class C every single seam has been eternabonded! Yes we affectionately call her Lucy and our mantra is tape glue and prayer will safely get you there! Lots of tape lots of prayer and a little bit of glue here and there.
I think eternabond is great stuff but I did contact Henry's Tropicool and asked them about their products. They recommend not using eternabond tape, saying that their Tropicool 887 will not stick properly over time so use their 885 to seal around everything.
@WhyWait yes Henry's Tropicool 887 silicone roofing is great stuff, has a lifetime warranty and if you take your time and follow instructions you will have a professional result. I'm planning on using it on our class c with a fiberglass roof.. I wanted to use the eternabond being I've had great results in the past but in my search for info that's what they shared about using their Tropicool 885 that is used as a sealer around all items that have dicor or similar. Great video brother.
Thanks for the video. Looks like a good project for fall. If I buy you a beer, would you come help? 😊. Thanks for the snap pad bucket pad info. I too use the andersen buckets and I think this would be a good addition.
Yikes, might need a 6 pack 😂 Yeah those base pads are nice. We had two buckets crack over the years on gravel. But this is a great solution, good for grass as well to reduce sinking with the Andersen buckets.
I love this stuff and now cannot wait to this to my roof. How easy is it to remove say if your sky light breaks and needs replaced? That is the only thing I have concerns about doing this. Thanks Chris

Seal around the edges real good, then pop the light covers off and put sealant over the screws inside there too. You might even notice some of the screws inside the covers rusty from water getting in there.
Yeah I mention doing that in my first video. It’s a good idea to do, not for me though. Just means I’m right back up there inspecting lap sealant again every year and that’s the whole reason I did this project. But it’s definitely another layer of protection and a good safety net.
Taking care of this now. Going to reroof with Liquid Rubber. What people think, Eternabond tape joints first? Or coat with the liquid rubber and then Eternabond tape??
Hey Chris! I don't have a camper, but I DO have an enclosed utility trailer. Long story short, the fiberglass roof cap, which is black, cracked at the rolled corners the very first year we had it! Two questions...will Eternabond work on fiberglass rolled corners, and is it available in black? Love watching your videos! Thanks!
Thanks appreciate you watching all the time. Per manufacturer…EternaBond tape bonds to virtually any surface except silicone. This includes all roofing materials, brick, wood, metal, stucco, rubber, vinyl, canvas, etc. So EternaBond is the perfect repair product for buildings, RV's, tents, sheds, canoes, tarps, etc. Also, EternaBond has an expected life (depending on where you live) of 18-35 years exposed to the weather Black, here you go my man! 👍🏼 amzn.to/3VvH8L0
On the long 40ft sections where I ran the whole sides of the RV I just peeled back a little at a time and kept it lined up where I folded it over the roof onto the gutter.

I recently bought a 17 year old toy hauler that had roof damage in the front. Maybe a tree branch fell on it? Broke through the fiberglass hard siding in 3 places. Someone used something like that tape all the way across and it seems like it’s holding up but how can I tell if it’s the good stuff???? Any help from anyone🙏🙏?
Be honest without seeing it couldn’t really say what kind of tape it is. But you can always go over it with the Eternabond tape if you’re worried about the existing tape not doing the job.
I did mine 3 years ago and is still perfect. There’s 2 types that don’t like it. Either those that did poor prep work and install and they now have a mess. Or it’s RV techs that are now seeing less work repairing roof damage and they give false horror stories of why you shouldn’t use it.
what if you have to replace something on the roof after taping it, I heard it cannot be pulled up like the roof sealant can just be easily removed and replaced once the new item is installed

I'd like to use eternabond tape, but I'm worried if something needs to be replaced and cut out like the AC unit. Is it a pain to cut through and replace in this situation? I've heard that when you want to remove it, it's nearly impossible and can destroy your original rubber membrane.
A heat gun plus some good solvent like Kent’s Acrysol. Watch this video, 7 min 41sec mark. Explains a good way to take it off 👍🏼 th-cam.com/video/f4YXYYWWtbA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=C88T7zuNlJ0Kv-p5
The main drawback I’ve heard against using tape is how to remove it if/when needed.. anybody have any experience with removal to replace a vent or something? Trying to peel it off seems like it would likely damage the roofing. Whereas lap-sealant can be troweled off with a little heat and patience. I replaced a vent recently and it was easy to remove the lap-sealant.

Where are you located? I'm in Phoenix and the Eternabond tape turned into a grey crumble dust. Might have been a bad batch, but it did not hold up under the Arizona sun. My RV is a 1990 Overland Discovery Express, and my poor roof had been very neglected. I am hoping to go to Mexico this year for a new roof.
You must be the only one. I’ve never heard of that or had anybody comment on something like that. We full time and have been in TX, NV, Georgia and all places where the sun beats down on it. The tape does have a shelf life of 5 years, you might have been sold an old roll. But if the tape is good once applied it’s good for 25-32 years with 15 year warranty. Very strange Good luck with the roof 👍🏼
@@WhyWait I agree. I applied Eternabond to my front and back seams when I bought my 1998 Bounder in 2016 as a precaution because they looked a bit dicey and here I am in CenTex 4 years, tape is 8 years old, and no issues. In 2017 and 2018 I painted my rubber roof with Henry's Tropicool 887 silicone roof paint, one coat each year, and that has also been fabulous. I have a few partial-depth nicks from hail and branches over the years, but between the Eternabond on the edges and the Tropicool paint/sealant on the rest of the surface? NO leaks in all that time, and I also lived in the Columbia River Gorge winds and rains for 4 years in between the heat. It's also a breeze to clean: dish soap, extension car wash brush, and spray hose. And it dropped my cooling bill by 22% as I measured it that first summer. I'll add another paint coat this Fall when it cools back down just to cover up the little dings, but I suspect this roof is good forever. Note: the two do not play nicely together since silicone paint will not adhere to the Eternabond, but act well as a team.
ps... What you all do if needing to replace a skylight or vent down the road? How to get the Eternabond loose. I've used Eternabond but never had to remove it.
@carriepaulson7048 its not that big a pain to apply, i just find dicor easier long term. It can eventually come back up, and youre supposed to dicor the edges anyway so, i feel like it defeats the purpose. If you have to fix it it can pull the rubber up

@@WhyWait I have the Intech OVR Expedition with the aluminum roof, but shit happens so I’m going to pick up a roll this week so if anything crazy happens I have it
If the lap sealant is still good and not flaking or peeling up why remove it. Tape over it and the lap sealant underneath is another layer of protection. 👍🏼

So glad you said that little pucker is just the pull on roof lining/bond with lining, not an intrusion point.
I’m going to make a video call “Eternabond 1 year of procrastination” because I watched that video a year ago and still thinking about doing it but haven’t gotten around to it 🤦🏼♂️ 😂
Hahaha yeah I put the job off myself for quite some time before I did it too. It happens. Just do a good prep and cleaning when it comes time. 👍🏼
I actually bought some a year ago and I'm right there with you lol
same Lmao
Bought some in 2021, finally did a small repair today
Followed your Eternabond installation instructions late Summer 2023 and no regrets! Looks good as day installed, and confident this was a great solution to my 2 year old Rockwood travel trailer roof showing signs of edge seams starting to open.
Sweet! Glad it’s holding up and working out for you. Should be good for years to come. Thanks for always watching 👍🏼
I've used Eternabond on both of my campers with no problems. Thanks for sharing.
Good deal, if you know you know! Appreciate you watching Kevin. 👍🏼
Right on! Sounds like a nice job 👍🏼 Should be good to go for a long time!
I did this to mine many years ago and it's still perfect!
Hey Neil, what’s happening! Good to hear buddy, most people have always said the same 👍🏼
I do some commercial roofing and use this type of tape for TPO repairs.
Good deal. If you know you know 👍🏼
When my Lance 1995 travel trailer was new, I put Eternabond tape on the roof seams where it meets the side walls. Still looks awesome. I originally put it there to prevent black streaks from the walls flexing. Year 2 its holding up great! I used about 40 feet
Nice! That’s always good to hear. It’s good stuff for sure 👍🏼
That’s great to hear! It’s good stuff. Definitely appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment 👍🏼
The ends are probably working so well because of the amount of prep you did, that matters on all jobs.
That’s the advice I give everybody. Just take your time and prep properly. 👍🏼
Thank you very much for this. You provide a great service to RV owners.
Appreciate that. 👍🏼👍🏼
I did the roof of my 5th wheel 10 years ago. Still looked great when we traded it in for our class A
Nice! Love hearing that stuff. 👍🏼👍🏼
Funny, I just got a 50 foot roll 4 inch wide eterna bond two weeks ago, doing what you did. Thanks for the info once again.
Oh nice. Advice is take your time, prep the area well and push it all down nice n firm working it slowly. Appreciate you watching 👍🏼
after three years my roof is doing great with the tape up there.
big thing to prep the places you want the tape to stick to.
my sunny rook was built in 2001. holding up great. couple plastic problems. but replacing with parts not made of plastic. in 2025 all the counter tops will be replaced with real wood.
they are ok, just changing the look with a newer up grad look. same with the cabinet doors.
sure it is old. plenty of miles on it…but it is paid for. and still has miles left on it.
We just did our rig this year. It came out great. Thanks for the videos.
Nice! A modification well worth the time 👍🏼 Appreciate you watching the channel 😁
Hek, I bought some eternabond tape to the tug Pearl Coast and fixed a problematic leak in the upper house last year, still holding strong!!! Maybe I need to do a video😂
I did my 5ver’s roof like you a year ago after seeing your initial video - I’m happy as an itchy pig up against a picket fence with the results!!!
👍😃🍻
Haha nice! Keep her afloat!
I've used Eternabond on my last 2 campers. I don't know why people are so skeptical. Maybe because they saw a cheap knockoff and thought it was Eternabond? I like the stuff.
Right on. I don’t trust anything like the “as seen on tv” flex seal stuff. Appreciate you watching.
I installed Eterna Bond tape on everything also a month after we purchased our Pinnacle that we ordered.
9 years with the tape and have never looked back. I wouldn’t do it any other way.
Nice! Always good to hear these kind of comments Michael. 👍🏼
WOW Your roof looks great,👀👀
I’m pretty anal about cleaning it Tim. I don’t know why, nobody can see it 🤷🏻♂️😂
Awesome sauce, thanks for the update.
Hey guys 👋🏼👋🏼 Thanks for stopping over and checking it out!

I’ve heard of people patching awnings with this tape 👍🏼
Jim
I will be sealing my RV this fall October or November I live in Florida and the heat is a factor getting on the top of the Rv
I was waiting till it cools off as well to do mine😂
i found stanliser bars work better than spacers under the legs.
my drive way is at a slope so yes i do have homemade wood blocks. anout 1 foot tall.

Here’s a link to a video where a buddy of mine explains a great way to remove it. Around the 7 minute mark.

Just cut through the tape and cut out the sky light. Then install a new one. Then tape it up again
I guess I'm buying some eternabond. Thanks!
Right on 👍🏼
Thanks for the video.

Even then, it's a lot of work 👍🏻🇺🇲
Yeah but remember it doesn’t have to be all done at once. Take your time, prep well, do small sections at a time. Thanks for watching.
@@WhyWait thanks
4 years ago when I replaced the entire roof membrane and decking on our Motorhome I looked into and considered using Eternabond tape bit ad I temember it acoording to eternabond you're supposed to use lap sealant on all the edges. My concerns are that, and if a roof vent, fan or skylight beeds to be replaced it's an absolute bear to get off(which is both a good and bad thing). Dicor is way easier to remove. It's a very appealing idea, I may still do it at sometime in the futue. Thanks for posting and Safe Travels.

This is the very first thing you should do to your camper. New or old. If applied correctly it will last the campers lifetime.
Agreed my good man. 👍🏼👍🏼
Good to know. 👍🏼 I don’t know anything about Henry’s so 🤷🏻♂️ I’m assuming it’s like a rubber liquid coating for the roof.
Great info ! Thanks
Yea how do you get it off if something needs replacing????

Anyone have any idea how it would hold up through -35 Celsius winters? We're in a place called Canada ;-).
Most of my water leaks came from way of the clearance lights and taillights seals.
Seal around the edges real good, then pop the light covers off and put sealant over the screws inside there too. You might even notice some of the screws inside the covers rusty from water getting in there.
Use dicor on edges of that tape.Tape gets voids and leaks!😊
Also, EternaBond has an expected life (depending on where you live) of 18-35 years exposed to the weather

I’ve got a 2013 Work and Play with metal roof. Wonder how that’d go?
so how did you keep it so straight?
On the long 40ft sections where I ran the whole sides of the RV I just peeled back a little at a time and kept it lined up where I folded it over the roof onto the gutter.
I still wonder why people don't use automotive windshield urethane to seal RV windows, vents and such.
If you need to replace something on the roof, how the heck do you get the tape off ??

Good to hear yours is holding up Jim. I agree with what your saying too 👍🏼
Thanks for watching
I just bought a new 5th wheel. I was thinking of doing this now so I don’t have problems with the lap sealant in the future. Is that a good idea?
I will do this mod to every RV I own right off the get go! 👍🏼
what if you have to replace something on the roof after taping it, I heard it cannot be pulled up like the roof sealant can just be easily removed and replaced once the new item is installed

I'd like to use eternabond tape, but I'm worried if something needs to be replaced and cut out like the AC unit. Is it a pain to cut through and replace in this situation? I've heard that when you want to remove it, it's nearly impossible and can destroy your original rubber membrane.

Is there another brand of tape you would recommend other than the Eternabond brand? I'm in need to tape my RV roof then seal with Henry's 887.
Nothing I would personally recommend since this is all I’ve used and can speak on. Plus it’s probably the best tape in the business. 👍🏼
Did you take your old tape off your slide outs before applying eterna bond?
No my tape was very thin and still looked to be in great shape. So I just cleaned it and put the Eternabond over it. 👍🏼
I'm going to try i5
The main drawback I’ve heard against using tape is how to remove it if/when needed.. anybody have any experience with removal to replace a vent or something?
Trying to peel it off seems like it would likely damage the roofing. Whereas lap-sealant can be troweled off with a little heat and patience. I replaced a vent recently and it was easy to remove the lap-sealant.
It’s not the easiest thing to remove but that’s what so great about it. But it’s not impossible. Use a heat gun, some solvent like Kent’s Acrysol. Removing old lap sealant sucks too. Both take patience.

Very strange
Good luck with the roof 👍🏼

If it's good for race cars, it's good for a camper, it is almost the same type of tape.
This is true 👍🏼
i did mine 3 years ago, dumbest thing ive done to my camper. not a chance id do it again.
Why is that? Curious the negative aspects…
@carriepaulson7048 its not that big a pain to apply, i just find dicor easier long term. It can eventually come back up, and youre supposed to dicor the edges anyway so, i feel like it defeats the purpose. If you have to fix it it can pull the rubber up
