This is exactly what I was thinking! I just purchased a 2024 trailer and don't want to deal with the lap sealant issues from UV. I've only had it about a week but I'm going to put this stuff on top of everything to help protect the lap sealant from the Sun and adding an layer of waterproofing on top of that.

Just did the eterna bond and Henry's tropical white and it came out great. Solid ruged and smooth and easy to clean. This roof is like a bathtub liner. Worth every penny. I highly recommend this. I did it with my 2017 coleman now the 2021 wildwood lite. Love it. Great security for piece of mine. When you pay $24,000 for a rv $500 is nothing. In the winter I have a cover for it. Like my father who was an aviation mechanic he taught me take care of your stuff it will take care of you.

I did the roof on my last trailer 20 years ago. It's still holding up well and looks great. I ended up using Hengs on the rest of the EPDM roof, which also has worked well for over 5 years now. Prepping with acetone caused the glue under the EPDM to let go. When I do my new trailer, I will steer clear of it.

I did mine on my 2021 Wild River. The roof was in great shape and wanted to keep it that way. After i taped everthing i plan on using Henry's tropical sealant to finish the whole roof in white. We plan on being snowbirds next winter and heading to Florida so not taking any chances. I don't want to spen fixing i want to enjoy our new camper. Great video. I watch you as well as the other person you recommend. Both of you have great videos. Also i watch Jerry also with i love rv life. Like the different approaches you 3 give. Keep up the good work. PS: On the fixures as i call them as i inspect i use 303 protectant for UV protection and seems to be working well. Also my tires they look like new. 3yrs so far. Got the idea from Jerry. I spray the tires once a month takes less then 10 minutes. All the rubber on doors slides etc. Works great.

I live in a temporal rainforest in Southeast Alaska called the Tongass National Rainforest; we get an average of 13 feet of rain per year. I can't wait to try this Eternabond on my RV roof; for me, water protection is THE most important thing. Awesome video! I just ordered a roll to fix where my roof meets the front cap seam. I've tried lap sealant and for some reason, it never worked. First thunderstorm and we had water dripping on us while we were asleep! I did use some Flex Seal liquid sealant and it seems to be working. However, I'm going to put this on top of it to be on the safe side. Plus, it's a good idea to bring with you on a camping trip if you need it. Thanks for posting a great, informative video!!

Thx for this video, I have an older RV and have had great success using Henry’s “Tropicool” to cover most of my Fiberglas roof, but I was curious about using this tape on many of my seams to complete the job. Many of the RV channels say not to use this, but I was wondering why not. It seems that the proper preparation is key to a successful result.

I applied Eternabond to all my roof and slide seams 12 years ago. It’s still sealed like the day I installed it. I had a leak on my slide from day one that the dealer would dump lap sealer on and it would start to leak again after 6 months. The prep was a lot of work and you have to pay attention to the install.

Thank for posting! I’ve had many debates about Eterna bond tape as I’m sure you have.
We purchased our Pinnacle over eight years ago. I installed the tape the first week we brought it home and it still looks new. At the factory service center I asked the service manager what his thoughts were on the tape and his response was that if the service techs were building the rigs the tape would be on every one of them.

    • @WhyWait

I have yet to see anyone including techs remove all the old lap sealant when replacing let’s say a vent. They cut through the old sealant around the perimeter of the vent and install the new one and then apply lap sealant over the new flange and old sealant
If there is tape it can be removed similar but new installation will be much flatter , smoother and more professional. imo.

Being a roofer for 30 years when I redid my roof, I use the Eterna bond tape and then I used 100 year quad underneath all my vents and then I used metal roofing screws with the washer instead of the little jump screws they give you you’re going on seven years now and not one leak through the roof and I don’t have to get up there and replace the lamp ceiling every year either there is way better ways of doing it in the camper places doing it as fast as he can get it done

He even did a two year review of his roof with eterna bond and still looks good! My class C is two years old and sealant looks good but I’m leaning on eterna bond up there. I don’t see any cons with it. If you had to replace a skylight you’d still have to use a plastic scraper just to get a ton of lap sealant off so no big deal.

Have a RPod which has one piece fiberglass roof that runs all the way from front to back. The point of weakness as far as water intrusions is the seams between the sidewalls and the roof. After replacing the crappy vinyl trim and the gazillion non galvanized screws that comes from the factory many in our community, including myself, cover those seams with Eternabond. Many have 5+ years on theirs with no signs of degradation.

My only issue is that the manufacturer gooped on so much lap sealant (I'm talking like almost an inch thick!) and left it very uneven on the top that I'm probably going to have to try to shave it down with a knife or remove most of it before I put on the Eternabond tape.

I rejuvenated my 97 Tiffin Allegro EDPM rubber roof this spring, and this (using Eternabond) is very similar to what I did at each and every roof penetration point. That said, I went one step further and coated the entire roof with Henry Tropicool silicone. At 26 years old, my EDPM had seen better days. While it still had *some* life left and I have seen WAY worse roofs, I decided that it was time to not chase little leaks again. I removed ALL the old sealant/caulking, and all trim. While I left the AC, shower dome, and refer vents on, I did take the opportunity to replace the old ceiling fan vents with new MaxxAir versions....esp since this was (hopefully) the last time I'd be doing any real roof work. After installing the new vents, I used Eternabond on EVERY penetration point, including over the front/rear fiberglass cap trim pieces. Following that, I taped off where I didn't want silicone and rolled it on. After two coats, the roof looks new with Henry's lifetime warranty.
If you have time and an extra $400, I highly recommend Henry Tropicool over that Eternabond.

I was literally going to ask about this. I really appreciate your comment! We just purchased our first RV, and it being a 2004, it’s due for some modernization, as well as a fresh sealing on the roof (thankfully, still no leaks). The previous owners took very good care of it, but now it’s time for a bit of refurbishing. I’ve had a hard time trying to figure out exactly what to seal it with, and was thinking I had to pick only one product, but thank you again for this!

    • @jeffreymissal
      @jeffreymissal 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@justinbond558 Just make sure you do do the butyl tape and eternabond BEFORE you Tropicool because they WILL NOT adhere correctly to silicone based coatings. And, for added measure, if you caulk like I did after the Tropicool (or similar), make sure you use a silicone-based caulk.
The hardest part (for me) was getting under the AC units...everything else is accessible...I just didn't want to go through the pain of R&R. That part of the EDPM doesn't get any sun or much water anyway, so I think I'm safe.

I first used the 2 inch EternaBond tape to address a leak in our bunkroom slide. When I finally figured out the problem was on the roof of the slide, I cleaned up all the nasty looking glue that was up there. Cleaned the roof with dish soap so it was so clean I could eat off it. Then I put the EternaBond on. Stuck really nice. No leaks in that slide since. I've since used it on the edge of the roof where I discovered a tear in the roof membrane about 3 inches long. I've already decided I wanted to do this project. I bought the 3 inch EternaBond, but I also haven't started yet. Can you imagine an RV roof that's 100% EternaBond Tape? LOL

I applied it 3 days before it started raining in 38 degree weather, and it's now been raining heavy for a few days....not even a hint of a leak. Eternabond is the way to go. I cleaned seams and added eternabond years ago right over seams on fiberglass roof not only does it look way better it has not been effected in 10 years. My roof seams and around my vents This stuff holds to roof really tightly it is hard to remove but with a heat gun you can pull it off. But why would you. You need to go slow laying it down keeping it straight and being neat. One other use I use it for is extra hold on wires on roof for cameras and solar panel brackets. I used a good industrial adhesive to add to my solar brackets verse making holes in roof which has held fine. But going over the brackets is just extra precaution and it looks good as well. Those brackets have held fine. I never used lap seal it’s a messy ugly look and I don’t trust it eternabond is proven method.

My 21ft TT roof is a sloped to the back one piece fiberglass. Light grey- I’d love to use Eternabond . Wish it was in other colors then white . And it can look like a bandaid

Hi there, thanks for sharing. What’s made of your RV roof? Fibreglass, EPDM , PVC? Did you use primer before you coating? Thanks for your input.

My roof is a TPO as standard on most Grand Design RVs. I did not use a primer I just took time to clean the areas well before laying down the tape. 👍🏼

When applying it to the side part of your trailer did you put the tape over the entire trim piece that sits above the gutter?

No I came half way down on that trim piece. There are screws under there I can still access if need by popping the bottom part up if needed.

So I've wanted to do this for quite some time and you convinced me! Just to verify, did you use 4" or 6" width of the eternabond. I've got both widths. Don't want to go too wide but wide enough

I used 4” inch everywhere. That worked for me. Only place I probably could of used 6 inch was where the front cap meets the roof 👍🏼
