This is what maturity looks like. Taking full responsibility for your failures, and sharing your story as a light to others. He took the long road, but ultimately Ryan Leaf arrived at success.

My respect for Ryan Leaf is immense. He's genuine, he's honest, he's open and he's about as real as a person can get. Unlike a certain recent superstar QB, he has no qualms about owning his mistakes. And the fact he hopes his struggles can help someone else is also impressive. Leaf is truly human: a good person who has made mistakes along the way but keeps trying to be better. As always, I wish him nothing but good health and good days ahead of him.

Every time I see Ryan on a broadcast for a game, or hear him on the air, or see him speaking with or filling in for Rich, I just gotta smile. He’s got a whole new life and worked tirelessly for it. And Rich, thank you for your help to get him further exposure.

Rich's question about stepping away due to mental health back in 1998 vs. now was excellent, and Ryan's response hit it out of the park. We really have come a long way in terms of mental health recognition and treatment since the 90s, even though to me the 90s still feel pretty recent
