      Most people have a sense of "the bottom" and if they think they can get out of it they will.
      Ryan Leaf was in jail for stealing pills from strangers in a scam that gave him unwanted access to their homes. Addiction is a crazy thing and will lead you to "the bottom" on a pillow of broken glass.
      Ryan finally saw that he had no options left, got clean, appears to have matured and that's always a good story. It shows that most people aren't inherently "bad". Something is usually pushing us toward bad things and we're too weak/damaged/dumb to do the right thing.
      Few are inherently bad people. They exist but they're not the norm.

    It's easy to look back now and see how crazy this was. At the time, I remember arguing with people at work that there was no comparison. Manning was born and raised to play QB in the NFL. Most didn't agree and said Leaf would be the better QB. Leaf was the beginning of a line of one year wonders that got drafted early. That has been my one concern about Burrow. I hope he doesn't become the next bust.

    • @RevAlSharptonz
      @RevAlSharptonz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t understand your stance on Joe Burrow.
      You’re concerned he’ll be a bust because he only had one year of insane, record-breaking, video game stats?
      His often overlooked 2018 season wasn’t too shabby. In 2018 he had just under 3,000 passing yards and a tad under 60% completion percentage leading while leading LSU to a Fiesta Bowl win and LSU finished 6th in the final 2018 AP poll. He did all this in 2018 with the worst O-Line in the SEC and a lack of a good running game. Yes, the media voted on the best and worst of each position in the SEC and LSU was awarded the worst offensive line for 2018. They were bad.
      In 2019, LSU had an insanely better O-line, WRs, & RBs for Mr. Joe to work with. Basically everything was so much better in 2019.
      People seem to not realize Joe Burrow was exceptional in 2018 for what he had to work with. He probably would have had very similar stats in 2018 had Joe had the 2019 LSU team to work with.

    • @g.holland4862
      @g.holland4862 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RevAlSharptonz sounds to me that you understood my stance on Burrow. I was concerned that he could be a bust. There is always a concern when you don't know if a player's record-breaking stats come from a system (see QBs from Houston and Hawaii), the talent around him, or from their own talent. In Burrow's case, he had a pro-style offense with a multitude of talent around him. They were pretty much undefendable. The Clemson defense he torched last year was not the porous defense that Fields destroyed. They had no secondary at all and very little pass rush from the front 4.
      From his play in the NFL, he appears to be a good pick. Hopefully, he recovers from his injury and has a long career.

    To be fair to Ryan Leaf, Marvin Harrison wasn't the Marvin Harrison we remember in 1998.
    The offensive line situation would have looked a lot better in San Diego. Both the Colts and the Bolts got new left tackles in 1998. SD was getting a veteran left tackle from a playoff team and Indy was getting a converted guard from the worst team in the league. (Tarik Glenn wasn't Tarik Glenn yet, either.)

    I'm a Colts fan and wanted Leaf over Manning. Damn that was a dumb wish.

    That letter makes you wonder just how much of a BUM Ryan Leaf feels himself to be after letting down such an icon who had such faith in him. And THEN to mention Harrison and Faulk as guys he COULD HAVE been teamed with... Somehow I believe what happened with Leaf IS what informed Archie on telling Eli to stay away from San Diego in 2004.

    @bobbypaluga4346 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unless Leaf is high, I don’t believe a word he says. Hunter Thompson knew zilch about football. Ryan Leaf calling Thompson a druggie??? A guy who could have been in prisoned for the rest of his life for burglary, possession of illegal substances, repeatedly, labeling anyone a drug addict, wow

    Dude the only clip of Leaf off field is that locker room clip where he freaks out, but listening to him now, I really like him lol I could never understand the stress of a first round first pick qb on a team that gets him beaten to hell, I'd be mad too lmao good on you Ryan Leaf, have on you

    Leaf could have been a great NFL QB. Immaturity & Drugs played the biggest roles in his failure. I'm not saying that he would have been better than Manning. If he went to a better team with a better coach that was all huggy and developed a relationship with Leaf his story would have turned out much different.
