1:06 this sound is burned deep into who ever played Halos brain.
1:09 this one is way more lodged in then anything else for me
Also your getting this a year later because this video was in my recomended
It's really interesting how a game with such a serious tone managed to get away with having such silly enemies
I don't know, I just never could take the game seriously at all with all these constant silly noises. I came to view this franchise as more of a parody/satire than something serious x)
The reason why they're goofy in the game is probably to make the flood feel more threatening. You don't see any of these critters in the flood levels to brighten the mood.
@@johnblacksad1627 & you would be dead wrong lol. That's a pretty simple point of view...
@@MeadeJ67 Yeah, and, my point of view on it is that I take this as a Sci-Fi parody and satire, nothing wrong or right about it. It's clear to me that this franchise takes more or less direct inspiration from many existing movies, and adds a silly layer to it. The humans are pretty much reducted to the United-States of the Galaxy, and treated like a classic 80' action American movie constantly spitting lines like "Hoorah ! Allright ! Boo-Yah ! Let's kick some Alien asses !". The Aliens are just, big bad Aliens, with silly dialogues/noises and ray guns.
And whenever it tries to start getting serious, there goes again the silly comedic noises..
I stopped playing ODST partialy for that... I really tried getting immersed, but for some reason, wandering around destroyed New Mombasa with some overly dramatic Jazz music that tries to force a somber tone, while at the same hearing goofy Aliens noises, didn't do it for me... It's like trying to mix oil and water... Either go full goofy, or go full serious, but don't try to sell me drama with this kind of stuff, it's inconsistant and feels like they are not assuming what's really going on.
Not counting the fact how awefuly stupid everybody seem in this game... Like, come on, still trusting the Oracle for the third time after all this ?!? Oooh, he turned bad again and killed Sergeant Apone-UUH, Johnson, sorry, what a twist....!
I'm at Halo Reach at the moment, and so far, it SEEMS a bit more serious and balanced, which I like, but anything before that, nah, not doing it for me...
@@johnblacksad1627United States of the galaxy? Funny because the United States doesn't exist in halo, also the reason the grunts are so goofy is because they are litterally children
2:29 Cracking a cold fusion with the boys
@@beastwarsFTW Didn't know. Sounded like a "first round on me" sort of line. Grunts are little bad asses sometimes
Fun fact Joseph Staten the lead writer of Halo voices the grunts
Now that he’s the lead for Halo Infinite, I’m hoping they got him to do some lines.
@@itsyurmumm8458 haha oh brother the news today was horrible haha. “So great being a Halo fan in 2023”. :/ at this point, Halo may very well be dead!
1:07
Most adorable enemy death sound.
Make me feel guilty.
oh you want to feel even more guilty ? grunts are actually kids, the only way they are used is because they learn extremly fast, like, crazy fast and elites are a somewhat father figure, so when you kill their elite you basically kill their adoptive father (some elites are even attached to them and will ruch you in rage if you kill all of them)
No, they just grow up fast.
They sound like this because of their methane tanks being filled with helium, that’s why they sound like ghouls in halo 4 (because they’re in reqreum.
@@Void_Wars "Unggoy breed prodigiously, with large egg clutches and short childhood periods. Combined with the large number of young per clutch and rapid sensory-motor integration development, this was one of the primary reasons why the Covenant cleverly used the Unggoy's breeding habits to their advantage in battle, deploying the Unggoy as cannon fodder."
im positively sure its the case
For me is not..i just can see grunt making this noises while bleeding and crying with tears and feeling agony because Master Chief made a giant hole in his body using sniper rifle.
@@jeanmouloude Cringe, wrong and you know it. They're adults, they just grow fast
2:13 "We are the champions!"
Grunt: last squad over there
Elite: Rush in
Jackal: *Dies*
Grunt: *kills marines*
Elite and Grunt: *Kill The Demon*
Halo Legends: You are the Champion
1:00 Implying you've gotten blown up multiple times?
That doesn’t seem physically possible...
That’s exactly what Flipyap kept saying...
You forgot "Everybody Duck!" for the grenade bit.
Blaze Modz You forgot, "Get up so I can do that again!", "Not so tough, are ya?", "Hey, no sleeping on the job!"
The fact that the grunts say “Not again!” After getting stuck means canonically grunts have survived sticky grenades before.
I love how quickly they went from being completely overconfident to completely cowardly and pathetic. The elites were fun because of how their voice actor was so insanely dramatic, but them not ever being afraid of anything made them a little too predictable.
A little toopredictable? Mate the entire halo AI has exactly one single reaction to any given action and executes this 100% of the time. Halos entire point is its extremely predictable enemies, which together with halos weapon sandbox create the halo dance.
Plasma grenade line: "NOT AGAIN!!!"
I mean, how can it happen to a grunt again? It can only happen to them once...
Grunts are surprisingly tough, and humans who are weaker and easier to kill than grunts can survive grenades, so a grunt surviving one isn't too outrageous.
@@rootsnootthnute8598
From what I heard, jackals are the only Covenant race a human can easily beat in a fist fight.
They have hollow bones while grunts have stronger bones and an armadillo like shell with arm spikes.
They were adorable and cute in the first game now they look like dinosaur heads 😂
0:45 gets me everytime 🤣
1:07 My favorite grunt sound. So cute ^^
Hell yeah. I miss Halo 1 Grunts.
same.
I have Halo PC and custom edition. Going to play some multiplayer now, actually.
I love the running away sound at 0:34 and 0:45
They sound so super scared and sweet at the same time
I never hurt them when they retreated.
Also the laught at 1:34
Its funny chasing them when they retreat, not shootjng but trying to catch up and melee from behind
Weakling you must shoot them a couple times before walking in for the melee or headshot
these are the best grunts, new ones are crap.
The halo 4 grunts - Snorting sounds- -Backpack farting- -And Knkkkoohhkk-
1:15 when the elites would accidently punch the grunts lol
It's hilarious when they say "not again!" because it implies that particular Grunt has been stuck with a grenade or needler supercombine before and survived.
no, they believe in re-incarnation and stuff, it would make sense too because the prophets would use this as a way of getting them to not care too much about self preservation in battle so that they can wear down enemy forces and make it easier for the elites, jackals and brutes to kill them, they breed extremely rapidly so they are used as cannon fodder, also, i would'nt be surprised if to make it even more convincing the unggoy might be implanted with memories of their fallen predecessors explaining why they believe they were stuck with a plasma grenade in their "previous life"
DOWN IN *FROOONT*!!!!!
Yeah. I think the "down in front" is my favorite Combat Evolved grunt line as well. My favorite elite line of "Halo" universe is "it is well hidden!"
I like how canonically Grunts know what Queen is.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS 2:13
Even hearing the Grunts talk and chatter with each other makes me nostalgic! I miss their little quips, like "Tag!", like it's all a fun game. I mean, the grunts really had personality to them in the original classics of Halo. It's Halo 4 when they stopped showing it, but despite how mediocre Halo 5 is, the grunts were a highlight (since they talk english again, and they are STILL funny as hell).
I can hit the same high crackly pitch as the grunts and is cracks up the fam 99% of the time
Finding the grunt with the skull and fuckin punting him is probably the best part of Halo 5's campaign
The more time goes on, the more 343 messes up, the less I view halo 4 or any 343 halo games as halo games. They don't count. Idgaf. I used to make an exception for halo 4, but the taint of 343 is too strong now post halo infinite I can't consider any of them legit. It's zombie halo under 343.
ive heard grunts signal for throwing grenades so many times to call out a grenade being too close to them to many times
0:42 (Grunt running away)
1:07 (Grunt Dies)
1:36 Grunt: Over here!
1:39 Grunt: Enemy!
I like those lines.
I'm glad that I recognize all those sounds. This game is nostalgia
Dude one time I was taking cover and a grunt shot an elite with his needler and was like "Whoops sorry!" and the elite straight up stared at him for like 5 seconds.
Halo: CE best grunts
1:00 Here's proof that Grunts believe in reincarnation!
These grunts were adorable! I always loved watching the little ones fly across the map.
My favorites are the ones where they plan squad tactics:
"I'm goin' in!'
"I'm with you!"
So I get lots of requests, Halo 2 grunts, elites, flood, Halo CE Flood, etc. Any popular demand that I should do? :)
I did a How To: Rip sound from Halo: CE one time, it got very veeeeery low support, aswell as views. Which I guess I see, cause it wasnt very well made :P.
I can't even imagine how Joe Staten acted when he did all these dialogue
Here's one not that many players hear. When you're hiding and they're searching for you and know you're there somewhere:
"I can't FIND him!"
Never in my entire life did I think I would watch a video of grunt sound effects for three minutes straight
sounds of my childhood right here
"NOT AGAIN!" favorite line
i swear 343 needs to make a grunt plushie

The crazy laugh at the end says the truth about @PrincessDilly's mental health
The grunts listen to Queen?
Coming at you two years later with a fun fact relating to this!
Due to how grunts' minds work, they actually are able to learn new languages incredibly quickly. Because of this, many grunts were given the job of listening in on human communications and translating them for the rest of the covenant's reading pleasure. Knowing this, it's entirely possible that a human broadcast that a grunt listened in on was indeed playing "we are the champions" or had someone singing it, especially if it was a grunt listening in on a UNSC outpost's communications after they scored some victory against the covvies in the field of combat.
in my opinion, the cutest of the little guys. I always try to let them live when i play ce on mcc, and i ALWAYS have classic graphics enabled, cuz they're super cute in classic graphics. Also, they sound like little children
this video is a great service to the Halo community
I love the grunts, especially the CE grunt voices.
2020 ain’t going so well but this will still roll
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, Joseph Staten: voice of the Grunts and the cinematics director of Halo CE, writer of Halo 2 & 3, and game director of Halo 3 ODST. Also writer of the Halo novels "The Cole Protocol", "Contact Harvest", and "Shadow of Intent".
Oh man, these sounds give me nostalgic vibes
I can finally sleep well at night night with this looped
All these years having played Halo... and I never knew the Grunts sung Queen...
My favorite part of Halo 1 is when you're in that room with flood Captain Keyes, and you go over to the door where there's the special ops covenant and the scary music kicks in as the grunts start exploding and killing all of their teammates.
Someone I once knew told me about the most hilarious situation he ever ran into, when one grunt tried to toss a grenade over the shoulder of his fellow grunt, stuck him with a plasma grenade, and the stuck grunt yelled, "Not again!" before they blew up.
the "sticky grenade" quotes also play when an infection form crawls up and starts to bite them
1:07 My absolute favorite
Grunts when falling is so funny! 😂😂😂
And they make piggy noises and they sound cute.
You can tell they were having fun making these
This is priceless, thank you very much!
And this is why it’s awesome that Joseph Staten is returning to Halo!
2:14 grunt sound
1:56 as a Halo veteran of 20+ years, I never knew the Unggoy had victory lines if they killed Chief. That’s because I never died in my 20+ years of playing Halo LASO.
No te creo que jamás hayas muerto en el juego, al menos 1 vez habrías perdido mientras jugabas por primera vez
0:35 this is adorable
I fall asleep to this every night
I smell one! *master chief comes outta nowhere* The Grunt: AAAAA!
This brings me peace.
Joseph Staten, cinematic director, halo writer, grunts voice, superintendent voice, and best seller author. Now availabable on Halo Infinite Lead campaign. Coming soon.
Some of their idle sounds (non combat) sound kinda like an Engineer from Halo 3 ODST.
I love it!! I was looking for "Save yourself"
thanks for the download!
2:13 *XD*
Where's "Ooh! Aah! Get it offa me!" and "Ooh! I get his gun!"?
That's what I love about the old Halo games they had a sense of humour the new Halo games they have took the humour out the Covenant
Thank you Joseph Staten for your hilarious voice acting.
They are adorable thoe
I freaking love these little guys!
god they're so cute my heart can't take it
0:41. My favourite funny as hell sound.
Fyi: it's the sound of a pug
Actually for the first few games they just had an employee do the sounds and sped it up. It wasn't until recently that the thought of utilizing other sounds
i just imagining how AWKWARD this is when making sounds *BEHIND THE scenes*
Thank you, Joseph Staten.
