First of all thank you for another amazing video and explanation! I am glad to report that I have been able to reach the designer (Andreas Stedling) and that he kindly replied to our questions. He replied to me in German, and I have his permission to forward his replies: 1. Yes, you are allowed to take the same bonus tile twice, and use them, but it’s not always purposeful 2. Only unlocked bonus tiles count for endgame scoring. 3. There are only four houses included in the box (1. Edition) because the fifth house is not needed, as it means End of Game (sudden death). Btw. the second edition has 5 houses and player screens. Glad I could be of some help. Please keep up the good work with your channel!!
Thank you for sharing these older games with the world. It might not seem like it now but I believe you are doing a great service to the board game community. Without channels like yours these types of games would eventually be lost and forgotten forever. Re: Kogge - Like you said this game looks like a grind; for that reason I realllllly want to play it now. Saving this video for future use!
Thanks for the kind words! I especially appreciate you noticing my passion for this. The main reason I do this anonymously is because I don't want this channel to be about me. I want it to be focused on the games and the games only. So I am glad you picked up on that :) Thanks for watching!
This seems like a beast to learn and teach! You did a great job laying it all out. I think it looks like a game that I would like, but the components could definitely use an update! Thanks for highlighting games like this!
Thanks for the comment! I am glad you followed the tutorial; it was quite a task to put it together in a sensible manner. Yeah those tiles are quite fiddly. The boats are awesome, but the rest of the game could use an update. This is the first edition; the 2nd edition improved the look slightly, but it still looks similar. Maybe one day it’ll get an update!
Thank you for the kind words, and for noticing that I never focus on my face! In fact, part of my entire "brand" is staying completely anonymous (undiscovered). I like to focus only on the game. Obviously I share my opinions on games, but I like to keep my videos strictly about the games. So I appreciate your comment very much!!
Thanks for reviewing Kogge. It has been on my radar for awhile but as you mentioned it is tough to find. Your review helped me realize I should probably pass on this game. My game groups prefer lighter fair and this one seems a bit too fiddly to go thru the trouble of finding someone to play with. A couple obscure games I like and would suggest are Stefen Dorra's Hellas, Friedman Friese's Fresh Fish and Codex Naturalis. Hellas and Fresh Fish are difficult to obtain, especially Hellas. I am sure you would enjoy those 2 considering the games you cover on your channel. On the other hand Codex Naturalis is fairly recent and still pretty easy to get but boy is it a table hog for a small cardgame.
Thanks for the comment and the suggestions! You are correct about Hellas :) I recently tracked down a copy and LOVE it. I haven't tried the other 2 but will definitely look into them. It took me 3 years to find a copy of Hellas, and I am never getting rid of it haha. It's good to know your game group, and I'm glad my video helped you decide one way or another on Kogge! I don't think Kogge is a must-own by any stretch, but I do think specific gamers out there will love it. I really like it, but I also understand it's definitely not for everyone. I think with updated rules and components, it could be a big hit in the modern gaming world. But as it is now, it's a very fiddly game to learn and teach. Once you get the hang of it, the rules do stick in your head, which is nice. Whenever we return to it, it's not much to relearn. As always, thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. I've been wanting this game for a while. Now I want it more :) Is that rule set you have from the BGG files uploaded in 2017 by quietcorn or is that your own doing? If it is your own doing, is there a way to get a copy of those rules?
Thanks for the comment! My rules came with the game, so they are the official rulebook provided with the first edition of the game. The first edition has German and English rules. However, there are lots of typos and weirdly worded sections. But I can happily try to get you a photo of this rulebook. Feel free to send me an email (see the "about" section on my TH-cam channel homepage). I don't have a scanner, otherwise I'd upload a PDF to BGG. But I could snap a photo and send it your way. Another way to reach me would be a DM on Instagram if you're on there. Either way is fine with me!
@@undiscovered_gamesThank you, if I manage to get a copy of the game, I'll have the rules in there so hopefully I won't need them. I can already tell this channel is going to be a problem channel for me. You're going to review and show us obscure games, and that is my weakness, collecting obscure games. Luckily I already have several of the games you have reviewed, like Asara, Milestones, Pillars of the Earth (with expansion), and Streetcar (which I bought new when it first came out in 1995 and still own). The video that scares me the most is the one called 2 Player Games You Probably Missed. I collect the KOSMOS 2P games and have many others.... so we'll see how much that video ends up costing me. ;) Thanks for the content. Despite what I said, I still subscribed to the channel, and I'm "dreading" what you're going to be doing to my collection :P
@@MurrRockstroh Haha I know the feeling all too well 😅Thanks for the sub, and it’s always cool to meet other gamers who love these older games as much as I do. The 2p games video is more or less small box card games, so it might not be too bad for you ;) The last one on that list (King & Assassins) is the one I suspect you’ll definitely be interested in if you’re not familiar with it. Looking forward to chatting more about games in the future!
Great idea! I have not tried contacting him directly, but I did pose the question in the BGG forums back when I made this video. 2 users seem to think you wouldn't get double the bonus (but you could get 2 matching tiles just to deny opponents). That seems reasonable to me, but here is the link if you're interested! boardgamegeek.com/thread/3181282/if-you-get-both-plus-1-route-marker-bonus-tokens-d
hi! thanks for the video! we will play it tomorrow evening, the rules is clear, but one things i didn't understand. I have 5 officies, and the rules and you tolk about 4 officies; but at the end of the rules the is this: "There are only four offices per player. It is possible, however, for a player who has no Bonus Chit to build a fifth. This ends the game and the player wins." How did you interpret this rule? P.s. do you try expert mode? i would like to introduce "tax" immediatly from 1° playing.... bad idea?
Thanks for the question! Here is what the rule means: You are trying to be the first player to get 5 points. Each office is 1 point. The rule is just saying you _could_ build a "5th" office to win (even though there is no physical wooden bit... only 4 offices come with the game). In that case, it's saying all 5 of your points would be from your offices, and no points from bonus chits (each bonus chit is 1 point). So it's just a clarification to say that it's legal to win the game with 5 offices and 0 bonus chits. If your copy of the game has 5 wooden offices, I believe that is a mistake. The game is only supposed to have 4 wooden offices per player. Hopefully that makes sense! I have not played the advanced variant yet! I feel like there is enough going on in the game already; however, I say _go for it!!!_ It doesn't seem like it adds _too_ much. But the game is a tough one to learn and teach at first. Once you play it, it makes a lot more sense. If you try the advanced variant, let me know how you like it! I hope you enjoy the game. I'm excited for you to try it! It's a hidden gem!
