    I discovered Caverna was the only game I owned that is also a solo-player game. Really loved the flow of playing it on my own. You are not waiting for others to play their turn and they are not taking up your resources or action cards. So you can really have a fast-paced game, playing out a strategy. Also really lovely to set out the board and just play two or three turns with a cup of coffee in between home-office breaks. Biggest challenges: it's actually so fast-paced that you have to make sure you don't forget to turn the next level card or replenish stock. Or god forbid to feed your dwarfs.

    Agricola was fun. I'd like to play it again. Problem is that the group that I played it with had an issue with Cult of the New fanatics. I think Agrigola was the first one to demonstrate this problem. There were a few people who only wanted to play Agricola every week, only Agricola, ever. And that went on and on and on and on -- until Race For the Galaxy showed up. And then all they wanted to play was Race for the Galaxy, every week, only ever Race For The Galaxy ... week after week after week after week after week -- and then Tichu showed up. And then all they ever wanted to play was ... .
    The problem with them is now they can't bear to ever go back and play old games that they played to death, and they can't bear the thought of ever looking at it again. These games that were supposedly so perfect, and fun, and the only game that they ever wanted to play for the rest of their lives yada yada yada. Fucking wankers. So I don't go over there any more.
    But I remember Agricola being a good game, with lots of options and balancing, and some variation. I don't need to over complicate that at all. And I don't need bags of specialty meeples to create a more immersive experience.
    I should look around, I think I managed to grab a copy on the cheap.

    One of the few games I have an insert for - makes set up a breeze - under 10 minutes and that’s probably being generous.

    So I just played Tigris & Euphrates. I bought the original Dutch edition from 1997. It's got this hand drawn look made by the artist that drew up the first Carcassonne game. I gotta say, it's pretty magical. The rise and fall of nations. The Nut-punching. The flipping of tables. There's no sheep, though.

    I laughed out loud several times during this video. I’m also Welsh and always enjoy a sheep joke. 🐑 (Not played this but love Agricola - this one seems a bit bloated).

    This game is pretty awesome- we played it back to back with Agricola a few days back and I have difficulties to determine which one I like better. Both splendid in their own way.

    I like Caverna a lot more than Agricola. They give me a clearly different playing feel. Agricola is a lot more punishing, Caverna is more fun.

    I haven't played Agricola or Caverna but I own and have played A Feast for Odin many times. Do you think Caverna is different enough to warrant a purchase if I already have A Feast for Odin and the expansion The Norwegians? I had been holding off because it seemed like with each iteration (Agricola -> Caverna -> A Feast for Odin) you just get about the same game with more things to do.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yea it’s different enough. I have all three and would never get rid of any of them.

    • @ratguy69
      @ratguy69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Odin is quite different from Agricola and Caverna, you should try them both out to see which you prefer. They’re similar enough that I can’t recommend getting both. I prefer Agricola as it has the cards which provide a more varied setup. Caverna has little to no randomness during setup. (Note: I’ve not tried the expansion for Caverna, it might add more rng). I love them both though, as I love most Uwe games.

    How could you detect some involuntary fecal emission when the Caverna components were already present?
    One for the sheep-rearers and cow-rearers or those who wish to practice both.
    If I were on a desert island and six gamers wanted to play this I would take my chances with the sharks.
    (I don’t like it).

      I havent played agricola, jumped straight into Caverna... and it's fantastic, if you like worker placement games, this one is a gem. However, if you have never touched worker placement games (or any board games for that matter) avoid it till you become familiar with easier games and then buy it :)

    This was one of the games I played quite a bit of on Table Top Simulator during lockdown. The great benefit of TTS is some of the mods available automate the setup and resource re-stocking, plus of course no teardown is required. This made the game a more enjoyable experience. I also think this is a more balanced game than Agricola where you can be really screwed by the card draw/draft. So all in all I prefer this to Agricola.
