I left S-mode on my laptop and I have had no ill effects. There is no reason for S-mode except so Microsoft can restrict what you can do with your computer just like Apple does with IOS. Many mid to high end laptops have shipped with it too. This is not something that is running for a reason, but an attempt to turn windows into a closed ecosystem. If you are in S Mode, I recommend that you leave it.
I've had to show my sister how to take her laptop out of S mode, as she prefers to use firefox for web browsing, and also uses a third party office alternative Ive also had to show my mum how to take her laptop out of S mode so she could install the same third party office alternative, and she also now has a second laptop for family history, and if the laptop was still in S mode then it would have needed to be taken out of S mode, but as I previously used that laptop myself I had already taken it out of S mode (I did wipe the EMMC storage and reinstall windows from a USB so that the stuff I put on it wasn't filling up the storage on it)
@@KevinK3vin0 i first tried to reset windows using the built in thing, but when i tried that i got a strange error, which suggested that the built in thing had somehow become corrupted, and i decided that rather than try and sort it out, i may as well do the standard “wipe and reload” That laptop only had 64GB of onboard storage
@@KevinK3vin0 As far as i can tell, it didnt have any affect (athough being as one of the first things i did when i first got it was take it out of S mode, i cannot say for certain)
I just picked up a MS Surface Laptop Go running in S mode. It's fine for checking email, viewing/reading web sites. youtube. etc. I'm not a gamer or a power user. The laptop is akin to a large cell phone. If you need a VPN or want to use another browser or search engine, you have to disable S mode. Once you do that, however; you can't undo the change. Not a big deal if you know what you're doing.
@@silentfistgaming5391 as in know what sites to trust or not if downloading stuff. In other words downloading discord would be fine but a random website is not entirely safe.
Just bought a very basic laptop for my Tec afraid wife. She only needs to access her online teaching materials and basic word processing and webmail. Absolutely ideal for her use.
I was out of s mode earlier this year but today my laptop did a system bios update and now my laptops back in s mode which really pissed me off and now that I'm trying to switch back out of s mode all I get is working on it 😡 and nothing else it will sit like this for ages and do nothing i have apps on it that I can't use due to s mode which is really more annoying I wish they never thought of s mode it sucks
Yes, you can. It has pre picked or checked apps available, however it will not allow you to use apps outside of their picks, which im finding a bit annoying. I'm not sure if I want to switch just yet but when it comes to wanting to download pro apps, you cannot.
is S mode good? will it like be the same if you put it on S mode? I want to change it to S mode, but I'm scared that it will do something to my computer, and I won't be able to use all my stuff again.
they should make it easier to give the option that you don't want s mode, you buy the device they now almost oblige you to always have a microsoft account I think this is not possible start up, need microsoft account, do you want s mode gone need account, just give the people the option
Hi there, you'll be able to install applications from internet sources, though those haven't been verified by Microsoft and pose a greater risk of malware or other cybersecurity risks. Depending on your machine, you may also experience slower performance if apps are more resource intensive.
Your machine will become a real computer, with a real os. You'll be able to install any software you want and do anything you need to on the machine you own.
I am using windows S mode so I'm unable to install eclipse java and Microsoft office crack version cause of S mode then should i switch out ftom S mode or any other way to reach those software please respons.
I do NOT recommend that you pirate Microsoft products. Doing so is illegal and a great way to get malware on your computer. Regardless, I do recommend that you leave S-mode. It's just an attempt to turn windows into a closed ecosystem anyway like Apple does with things like the iPhone.
Personally, I would suggest looking into the free office alternatives and see if any of those would suit your needs (I do actually use a free office alternative myself)
No. Once you disable S mode, it's permanent and you can't go back. That's how MS exacts punishment on those who rebel against being in their little box.
