I agree about the mesh. On the Treeigami site (that’s who makes the Bonsai Shoes), they indicate that the escape roots could clog the mesh bottom if you don’t prune them away regularly. I find they are great for root development. The trees I have in trays of sand produced an unbelievable amount of roots. The trees I have with no tray beneath them, the escape roots just dry up and air prune. I’m reviewing them over a year (which began this past spring), and I am probably going to suggest that perhaps they would benefit by having a solid bottom, and a more traditional, but meshed center hole. They are sold as training pots, so they are not intended as permanent homes for Bonsai. I think they are also great for cuttings. Your feedback will certainly be appreciated. Thanks again for all your kind words. Great video as always.
I picked up a couple of those pots after seeing your video. One thing about them, they're very affordable. I haven't decided what I want to repot into them yet.
The mesh I have right now lets everything through its actually pretty funny alot of my trays are full of roots, it cant be good but they seem happy. Do you think I should remove those or just wait until I repot in spring?
I really appreciate the daily bonsai content! Helps me wind down at the end of the day. I'm living in Yosemite National Park. I'd love to send you some things from here. You've really helped me understand trees. Very helpful, TH-cam Academy professor of bonsai! Little trees have really helped me in many big ways. Your Giant Sequoia videos are I think what got me to get my own sequoia giant and coastal. My California Black oak I've named Daffy for daffodils that actually has a wild iris growing with it is my first and most favorite at the moment. Working on a few Forrest that consists of different variety of trees as an experiment. But they're the native trees that grow in the forest anyways. So far so good. Haven't done any pruning. But thanks to you I will always have confidence in my work with the trees! One love from Yosemite. Visiting my home town in Utah for the week, its been about a year or two. Wish I could collect some Utah juniper for you! But I feel spring is usually always best. Also nursing my trees back to health after a safe collection. Man I love wild trees. But you really inspired me to grow my own. Thank you so much for all you do Nigel. Sincerely, Healey Adams P.S. I'd love to start my own youtube bonsai channel. Hopefully I do one day soon. I'll keep you in the loop if so!
Cool gifts. That Treeigami pot might make a nice pot for one of your succulents like a Christmas cactus or a crown of thorns or even a portulacaria afra. Just some thoughts. Shamrock for an accent plant or for St. Patrick's Day will be cool also.
Do you kill everything with soap? What would make you use something stronger? For example last year i got flying root aphids and I just couldnt kill them so i had to get rid of a lot of my trees, including my oldest ones. Is there something i could have done? Im very careful with what i bring home now.
I missed what brands and mixture you use for soil. Could you let me know here? Thx in advance! I just lost on of my trees when transplanting and used Tiny Roots all purpose blend. The tea tree did not like it which I had over 5 years. I’ve replaced it with a ficus but is in a small container right now from the local nursery.
Can you share your grow lights you use, and your overwintering care for your trees that go inside? This is my first year with trees going into winter and I am so nervous. A lot have struggles upon arrival
I can't speak for Nigel, but I do know he uses a wide variety of lights. Personally I used the Mars Hydro TS1000 last winter for my trees and it worked great. Spider farmer is another reliable brand.
El ficus está impresionante 😍
Saludos desde mexico
Amazing how dense that Ficus Benjamina is👌🏻
Pruning done by the master, superb!
So nice of you Tom!!!
The spider was happy to build its web to the kapok with white fly dinner!❤
Trees and sticker😜 looking good.
Catching up on videos. Watching.

@@TheCosmicDramaI do like them for some situations. And yes, compared to ceramics, the price is right!
@@bonsaiandskateif they are clogging the drainage, you should clear out the roots. If not, it doesn’t hurt anything to leave the roots alone
Boy oh boy, it looks like you are going to be very busy my friend ....
I like the clip and grow method more than heavy wiring, and you’re one of the best at it imo
I appreciate that!
I agree! I find it so much enjoyable watching Nigel with his clip and grow than someone who is wiring every branch on a tree

Awesome Healy, happy growing!!!
I think maybe planting a jade or other succulent with fine roots would work well for the mesh pot. Great drainage also helps for them
Sounds great!

Good pot for Crassula that have small roots
👍👌👌
Great video Nigel love the gifts .
I was thinking of trimming my giant sequoia. !
Do you think that is a wise idea Nigel?

I like big buttress root bases too Nigel! He he he and I CANNOT LIE

I pretty sure he usually uses Safe T Sorb and perlite mixed 50/50 and sometimes around 10%-15% pine bark added

Generally, the more expensive the light, the better they are. Find a light that suits your budget and you should be fine!
Knock Knock Spider, its eviction time !
Lol!!
