I'm glad the top is durable because I don't have to worry too much if my dog steps on it, and that's actually reason #1 that I chose it. #2 was that several youtubers said it was the most comfortable, and I've had chronic pain for 20 years, and certain types of mattresses/foam/etc will absolutely wreck me.
Thanks for the review. I own two of these matresses, and I am extremely happy with them. I agree with your comments about the pump sack, however Big Agnes does sell a lighter and bigger pumpsack which is very efficient and useful (Big Agnes - Pumphouse ULtra - Mini pump)
Thanks for the review - great job. Try the Big Agnes pumphouse pump sack; it works much better. Thinner material and double the volume. Also use as a dry storage bag. Bummer that after paying up for a pad you have to pay again, but it's worth it.
Good point about the inflation sack. I actually stumbled upon your video researching how to use the inflation sack. Thought I was doing something wrong when it was taking so long!
I bought the long version as it was the only one available at the time when I was buying last year - and I'm actually really happy I did. My pillows don't slip off the pad anymore which was an unexpected bonus that I've never really dealt with before. I ditched the pump sack as well and use one of those little mini battery rechargeable inflators - but it's been great as a side sleeper. Best pad I've ever owned though most of my old ones were years ago with boy scouts and not nearly as pricey.
Hi! Thanks for the unbiased review; I'm currently looking into purchasing this sleeping pad! I was wondering if you could go without the pump sack and just blow into the pad directly to cut off some weight?
@@CreachterZ Everyone on TH-cam raves about the comfort on the rapide so I don't doubt you but I couldn't justify the extra weight. I also think BA is wrong for not listing accurate weights on their product packaging/website. I haven't found the comfort lacking with the tensor.
Agree with your review, nice pad, junk fill bag. I actually saved weight by throwing out the bag, and getting the Flextailgear pump, which doubles as a tent light at under 3 oz. Good luck on the channel, from a fellow gear junkie.
hey, I've always been able to use an extremely light pump sack, because i just use a thin garbage bag. Pick a big size bag, I think 40 - 60L is fine, scoop it full of air, close it at the top. Using your hand you can hold the opening closed, and grip around the inflating nozzle. I do this for my nemo pad, works better than an inflation bag imo because it's so much more volume, once you have the technique down. Just don't squeeze too hard, the thin bag will pop if you're not gentle. Used the same bag for my pack liner for 40 days, dual use is weight saving, not that the bag weighs anything, replace it at any supermarket.
I ditched the pump sac and got the flextalilgear tiny pump x to inflate and deflate and the pump only weighs 3oz. Plus it has a light to hang in my tent on it ❤❤
Great review!! I think im going to end up buying this along with the Nemo Tensor because everyone seems to think those 2 are the most comfortable pads. Ill let my wife take whichever one she wants and Ill settle with the other LMAO
They have a new one coming out that I am looking forward to. It is called zoom. It is in the same weight category as the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir X-Lite NXT but just as thick as the Rapide SL.
I have a new channel too. Big guys hike too. I just received this sleep mat but yet to try it out. I had the Nemo tensor but it leaks in less than 2 years. Very disappointed. I hope this new pad is more durable. I am a big guy so I hope my weight is not causing the damage. Glad to see your review. I am excited to try it.
I have only had my Nemo Tensor for a year-ish, but it has held up so far. So far, so good. I really love my big Agnes repeat SL. The longer I have it, the more I like it. I wish it was lighter, like the tensor, but it's a little more durable for the extra weight. I will check out your channel. Thanks
Side sleeper here. I order Nemo Tensor, Rapide and etherlite xt on labor day sale. Slept on all of them for 3 nights and the etherlite won hands down. I wanted to love the Rapide but it wasn't nearly as comfortable as the etherlite.
I love that pump! I have had one for 6 months, and it is cheap and reliable. FYI the pump weighs only 4.3 ounces with the bag and attachments. You can see in the video that the pump sack weighs almost the same amount, with less than half an ounce difference.
Just got one in the double-wide size (for me and my son), and will soon test it. So far, it‘s looking like a big winner for me as a side sleeper. As for filling it, even the double-wide one is easy to fill with the included pump sack. It looks like your technique for filling the pump sack with air might not be as intended. Instead of expecting the sack to magically have its full volume when you bang it open with your hand, try holding it a short distance from your mouth and puffing gently. You should find it fills right up. (Same applies to Nemo‘s pump sack, etc.). A sort of air vortex effect seems to make that possible. I get the pump sack to fill up nearly to capacity that way. Makes things a lot quicker and easier.
They’ve been selling their pads with new pump sacks. The ones that they used to have didn’t work very well. Wouldn’t open up very easily and didn’t store very much air in it. I’m not sure how long they’ve been using the new pump sacks but I think for several months, at least, if not longer.
I’ve been using the Rapide SL this past year, and agree completely. It’s a really comfy, and warm pad. I have the regular length and width ( I’m 5’7”) and agree it feels wider than it actually is because of the raised sides. I ditch that pump sack because of how crappy it is and just blow it up normally. I consider this pad a luxury pad because mine clocks in at 19oz but it’s well worth it in my opinion.
I like the big Agnes products even though they're slightly heavier than the competitors. I find their products to be comfortable and durable. They just missed on the pump sack, but that's OK. We can all be perfect :-)
Great video. I’m a side sleeper and after years with my old thermarest pro lite 3 I think I’ve settled on this one as the replacement. Was also looking at the Nemo flyer and tensor. I’m old now and I’m looking for the best sleep I can get.
I have both, and they are both excellent choices. I prefer the big Agnes a little bit more and find it a little more comfortable. The Nemo Tensor is a little lighter.
I just got the Big Agnes Boundary Deluxe Insulated Sleeping Pad with a Big Agnes Blacktail 2 person Tent and Big Agnes ultra Pumphouse bag the Big Agnes boundary deluxe insulated sleeping pad is a lot warmer than the Nemo quasar 3D sleeping pag
I looked at the one that they sell called the pumphouse tonight at REI but they used to have another super ultralight one. I believe they discontinued it.
@@BackpackingGearNut Yeh, I think the ultralight one is the pumphouse Platinum. It's like the pumphouse but without the drybag closure, it just has a drawstring. You can if you wish cut the valve off the included pump sack and attach it to a lighter bag of your choice, tough plastic bag etc. There's a video on YT showing how to do it. I use the pumphouse bag as it has many uses so worth the weight IMO but still lighter than the included pump sack
Hi, Big Agnes sell a pump sack bag (Pumphouse Ultra) it is around 1.10lbs and it doubles as an extra dry bag if needed. There is a cost involve 34.99 but well worth it
That’s exactly what I do. But when I review a Matt, I tried to review it based on what they provide so that people know what they’re getting. The flextale gear zero pump is fantastic.
Hi, great video! You chose an interesting new product that doesn’t have that many reviews online, hopefully that’ll get a lot of views for you to kickstart the channel. 👍 You also kept it relatively concise which I appreciate. Metric values would be nice to add on screen though, for us international folk! (Greetings from Finland!) Been looking for a new pad to replace my Nemo Tensor Insulated (too narrow and fragile) and have tried STS Etherlight XT, Exped 5R Ultra and Dura, Amok Fjøl Winterlight. Might keep either of the last two but ordered the Rapide SL yesterday and am eager to test it. Weight isn’t of utmost importance for me whereas comfort is. Rapide seems to be a nice balance of lowish weight, durability and great comfort. A bit worried about top material since I use a quilt. Wonder why they don’t give the denier of it anywhere BTW. Exped Dura is the most comfortable top material so far. The pumpsack really does seem lousy. Exped, Amok and Nemo have great ones. I wonder if any of those fit the walve on the Big Agnes. Exped and Amok are especially nice because you don’t need to blow into them even a little bit, just shake air in, close and squeeze. Anyway, good luck to the channel!
I will add the metric Values from now on. It's funny; I actually like the metric system better. I've been an avid cyclist for many years, so I got used to the metric system, which is so simple for me. I sleep straight on it with my quilt, and it feels fine on my skin. I would like it to be a bit softer material like my Nemo Tensor 2022 version, but my skin doesn't stick to it. It doesn't feel like the Etherlight XT; to me, that feels much more plasticky, but as you know, it's all personal preference. You might consider using a bag liner. You can get a nice silk one that is pretty light, and it will feel nice for you to sleep on. I would love to visit Finland someday!
Personally, the cons aren't too big a deal for me. I slept on the tent floor for a while before finding out sleeping pads existed, sleeping without feeling sore after two nights is all I ask for. Though I hate making noise when I sleep, so thanks for that info about therma rest. I treat myself and carry a rechargeable air pump that weighs 3oz and is the size of a red potatoe. Thinking about buying the Tensor and Rapide to try out both, see how they feel. Wish you had a code to use on backcountry to give you a little kickback.
A good night's sleep is a must if you're going to really enjoy backpacking or car camping. It's worth the investment to find the right sleeping pad for you. Thank you so much for your comments and I, too, hope someday I can have affiliate links. I assume that'll probably come from growth. Have a wonderful day!
Been using the Tensor (reg), Rapide (reg wide), and Etherlight (w large). I find the Etherlight personally more comfortable as a bony side sleeper using a trail quilt, thicker for me to bleed more air but remain well off the ground still and saves about 4oz total over the Rapide once a proper pump sack is included. The r value could be a concern as the Etherlight W is 3.5, and I still find the Rapide extremely comfortable if I know there will be an expectation of cold. The Tensor is to shed far more weight and pack size, especially side objectives where everything else gets trimmed and isn’t warm enough for the uberlite.
Hey there, just subbed to support a fellow TH-cam vlogger and hiker out there. I am researching mattress pads. Thanks so much for all the info here. Trying to decide between this one and the Q Core. Yes hate those loud sleeping pads as I toss and turn like a rotesserie chicken all night. ~RVA Hiker Girl~
Big agnes does make a different pump sack. It's called the pumphouse. Someone probably already said that...I don't know how much it weighs. You could also just get a super light drybag, cut the valve out of the pump sack, and make your own. And/OR you could also cut off the closure/lid of the pump sack valve because you literally don't need it for anything. Do not cut the lid off the valve on the pad though.
Weights and materials and the Q core has a little bit of a different baffling system. The boundary deluxe is significantly heavier, but made of a softer material that is mostly designed for bass camping. The repeat SL has the same baffling system as the boundary but made of lighter materials. The less expensive Q core products are vertical baffles heavier materials so that it can be less expensive. I hope that helps.
I have the regular width and it feels REALLY narrow.. I think because it has such a high loft, the height actually takes some of the width out. I have just ordered the wide size and waiting for it to arrive as really trying to work on getting a good night sleep out!
A 25-inch wide pad is better for most people. The average mall has a shoulder width of 16.1 inches, meaning the average man's arms will not fit on a 20-inch wide pad. The average woman's shoulders are 14.4 inches in width, meaning the average woman's arms go right to the edge of the pad. People use 20-inch wide pads mainly to save weight. I hope that helps!
Im in the same (narrow) boat, definitely considering the wide but its a shame about the extra weight. side sleeping i always feel either my arse or my knee is off the edge and with the raised sides its emphasised a bit
@@BackpackingGearNut I just wanted to let you know that I compared the Rapide and Quasar and the Quasar is more comfy for me by a wide margin. It is also quieter. The Rapide is lighter and packs smaller but I returned it and kept the quasar.
I think you can double purpose the bag and use it to store clothes and other items while walking. still a heavy piece of equipment, but easier to justify if you can find more than one use for it
It's really comfortable, but I have found that with any pad I have, it takes me a couple nights to figure out the air pressure and so on. I am sure you will love it.
Thanks so much for the video, I'm getting the floor pad version of this as a two person mat for my husband and I and I wanted to make sure that it was as comfy as it looked.
Great content man! Just ordered the Rapide. I'm going to try and eliminate some of that weight creep by using a velcro strap in leiu of the stuff sack, and am going to *try* to MYOG a dual purpose dcf pump/stuff sack using the nozzle from the included pump sack.
I also made my own pump sack by cutting the nozzle off and inserting it into a lighter dry bag. It worked well - used thin nylon repair tape to stick it together.
No need to roll a pump sack down to inflate a pad. That will take forever. Just use your hands/fists to quickly jam as much air as possible into the pad, and then grab a new load of air. Repeat. For those that don't know, BA makes an upgraded pump sack (dyneema) that is a great piece of multi-purpose gear, and pumps these pads up super fast (its about 3x larger than a typical pump sack).
Have you tried the Big Agnes Q Core Insulated? Curious about the differences between that one and the Rapide SL - I believe they have the same r-value; would love to hear your thoughts!
I've never slept on the Q Core insulated, but I have laid on it, and it feels very similar. I think the main difference is just the material used for the outside. This might be more durable, which adds extra weight because of the double ripstop nylon.
I think that’s a great idea! I have all of the new Thurmer rest pads and like the improvements that they’ve made on them. I do wish they would increase the Uberlite to 3 inches because I find the extra half an inch makes a big difference.
Did you check out the BA ”Pumphouse ultra stuff sack pump”? It seemes lighter, and bigger. 🤓 It will fit the rapide sl as Tom Heaney show in his channel. I just dumped my grey Sea to summit Ether light xt insulated, in plastic recycle bin, because it had life time of only some 20 nights. Unprovoked leakages from the weldings in the dimple holes one after the other… I have replaced it with this Rapide SL now. It seemes way more durable and worth the small weight penalty in my opinion. I alwas use electric usb pump (flextail gear tiny pump) and never bring pump sacks anyway so.
Yes, I checked it out after I made this video. It is better than the one they include. I also use the Flextail Tiny Pump; It is the way to go. I already had the tiny pump when I made this video, but my review needed to reflect what comes with the product. Since then, I have learned a lot and more every day about making these videos. Thank You!
Nice video man. The rapide vs the tensor, which is more comfortable? I have the tensor insulated, but I haven't slept too well on it, so looking at this now. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@@BackpackingGearNut no 😢 I have a big Agnes 2 person pad and it doesn't fit on that. Not sure of the new ones are a different size valve or not. I use the flextail gear tiny pump 2 for that. I tried to buy the fancy UL pumpsack from big Agnes, but it ripped and I don't even know how, so I don't trust it. For the 2p pad, I'm just lazy and the pump is worth the weight. Plus, I can use it as a bellows for a campfire if I'm having a hard time getting wet wood lit.
Hey just confirming..... your shot with it on the scale is saying 1lb 15oz? I picked up a Q-core Deluxe on a BF deal and might send it back because it's a half a pound heavier than the already beefy Rapide.
If you like the sea-to-summit pillow lock, you can add it to this pad. It is just velcro. If you buy a Sea-to-summit pillow, it comes with it. I hope that helps! Thanks
@@BackpackingGearNut Since you are still growing your channel: One way to make it more accessible to the European audience would be to include metric measurements for sizes and weights. You don't even have to say them out loud, just put the converted numbers somewhere on the screen in writing for a couple of seconds. Not complaning, just a suggestion. :-)
@@Tokoroegao That is a great suggestion! A few other people told me the same thing a little while back, so I tried to incorporate that into my newer videos. I did not take it as a complaint. I love it when people help me to grow. Thank You!
I have the Big Agnes pumphouse that make it much easier to blow up. Better yet, get a flexair pump and never use a pump sack again. The pad is the best I have used.
One major issue with this sleeping pad is its incompatibility with the Big Agnes TigerWall UL2 tent. Once placed inside, the pad produces unpleasant and loud squeaky noises, making it difficult for both you and the rest of the campsite to sleep.
When I use mine with my Tigerwall UL2, it doesn't sound noisier than my other sleeping pads. I also had my tent for about six months before I got my pad, so my tent floor may have been less grippy as it got a little bit older, producing less squeak. Give it a little time to see if it lessons, or I know that for some of my pads, I sometimes take a sleeping bag liner and put the pad inside the liner, and then there is no noise from the friction against the floor. My Sea to Summit Either-lite XT is an excellent example of a pad that Will squeak if I do not use a sleeping bag liner around it. Thank You so Much for your comments! They really help!
@@BackpackingGearNutThank you for responding. I used a brand new tent and pad on my bikepacking trip for over a month, but unfortunately the noise was unbearable even after 10+ nights. I purchased a liner and it has indeed helped as intended. It's disappointing to have to carry an additional liner to prevent noise despite paying a premium price for ultralight items
@@karolisprekeris I understand. It is good that people can hear your story to give as much info as possible. I can't wait to hear about more of your experiences!
Let me know when the Rapide fails at the PU welds in the quilting. I've owned the Big Agnes Q Core, SLX and AXL and ALL of them failed in the same way like I described, the worst being the Q Core with 44 separate pin hole leaks all coming from failed PU welds. I hope you the best of luck with it. I'm done with Big Agnes sleep air pads, they are very comfortable but they are a ticking time bomb when they just decide to fail leaving you on the ground. Cheers!
@@BackpackingGearNut I need to add the Q Core is called the Deluxe. Blue in color. Not one leak on all the pads were due to a actual puncture, the PU welds separated causing the leaks and since the leaks are in the quilting which is the lowest and most difficult to repair permanently I sincerely feel Big Agnes engineered the PU welds as a fail point either leading to a declined warranty claim or a full factory pad replacement putting you and your wallet at the mercy of Big Agnes.
@@BackpackingGearNut This was in my recommendation list and like all 3 of my Big Agnes air pads this one failed in the very same way mine did. I guess turning it into a pillow is a decent way to save it as long as it serves some kind of purpose without completely throwing it in the trash. th-cam.com/video/BlGzWcKsiLM/w-d-xo.html. I know Big Agnes is completely aware of this PU weld seam separation issue.
for the pump sack there is a bit of a technique to it in my experience. i actually fold half of the opening over so that the opening is only about half of the bags width. from there you want to blow from like a foot away from the opening into the center of opening. this creates a pressure differential that sucks air into the bag much more than you can blow and i can inflate the bag almost entirely full and inflate my rapide long wide in just about 2 minutes. here's an example of that principle in action th-cam.com/video/BhWhTbins_A/w-d-xo.html
Exped is the only one that I know that makes one that is a long wide. I have attached the link to REI so that you can see the one I’m talking about. www.rei.com/product/201641/exped-flexmat-sleeping-pad
You should show us the whole pad and how it looks like staying on it. But anyhow, 1Kg pad is not for me, i had 500g and now moved to 250g but did not use it yet.
That is an excellent point. I’ll make sure in the future that I include those kinds of perspectives. Thank you so much for your constructive criticism; it helps me to make better videos! I try to keep all of my equipment as light as possible, but there’s a point for me where comfort costs me a few grams. I don’t know if I ever said this in any of my videos, but my shoulder has metal plates in it. I am at this very minute trying out a new tent and sleeping on a NeoAir XLite and it doesn’t have enough support for my shoulder. I have realized I need at least a pad that’s at minimum 3 inches thick. It’s too bad because the Uber light would feel good carrying it in my backpack.
I use the same pad.... Just ditch the pump sack... Grab one of them mini rechargeable air pumps.... weight very little and saves the space and trouble of the pump sack
Get a Nitecore AP10. no need to waste energy to pump your mat. Rechargeable pump and doubles as a lantern. I'm assuming you have a power bank on you for a backpacking trip.
I've never use a pumpsack before (previous models that I own weren't made with one) but would it be possible to use a pumpsack from a diffrent company? I get that not every valve is the same bus some must be compatible? As for the sac, considering how sturdy the sleeping mat it, I would just ditch it. EDIT: I found someone on Etsy that sells a 3D printed adapter that you can use on whichever sack you want. Many people mentioned using their's with their liner bag.
Yes, you can blow it up with a pump sack. This pump sack is a little slower and heavier than other companies. That is why people talk about the tiny pump so much. With the weight of this pump sack and how much work you put into pumping the air Matt up, you could save a little weight by just using the tiny pump and effort.
Thank you! I just got a better microphone today. I don't get much dynamic range out of the microphone on my iPhone, and if I add more games to the volume, you'll get a bunch of noise. My future videos should sound better fingers are crossed.
Big Agnes pump sacks are downright terrible in my experience, so much so, that after purchasing an air core ultra, i discarded mine immediately. the bags from other manufacturers like exped are insanely better.
Subbed and liked. As a sub 1000 channel myself perhaps you could reciprocate. I completely agree with your opinion of the pump sack. They should also make it so it can be used (in a secondary role) as a dry bag for gear, like the Exped snozzle bag (that I have for my Trekology UL80). When you are counting the Oz's (grams in my case) having things that have multiple uses goes a long way. I'm looking forward to my first camp/sleep on my Rapide SL Wide Regular. For now I'll be using my new Flextail 2X pump for inflation duty with the pump sack as a backup. It's still lighter that the UL80 is despite being a little wider.
I have both the Thermarest xlite and this rapide mat. Regards the noise of the Thermarest I always wear ear plugs whilst out camping so never hear any noise from the pads. 🏕️
Thanks for raising the noise issue. Almost no one does that in all the tests. 👍

Use a foot pump.
I have not tried the boundary yet, how do you like it?
Thanks for the great info and video very informative. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for your interaction with my channel. It is so encouraging to me!
Big Agnes do sell a separate much lighter pump sack, I bought one. It can also be used as a water carrier, shower and dry bag
That is a great idea! Thank You.
Is the pump sack necessary or can you use good ol’ lung power?
@@Ghostmeat17 you can use your lungs but the pump sack plus less moisture into the mat so less risk of interior getting mold in it
Hi, Big Agnes sell a pump sack bag (Pumphouse Ultra) it is around 1.10lbs and it doubles as an extra dry bag if needed. There is a cost involve 34.99 but well worth it
Thanks for the information!
use the flextail zero with it?
That’s exactly what I do. But when I review a Matt, I tried to review it based on what they provide so that people know what they’re getting. The flextale gear zero pump is fantastic.
Hi, great video! You chose an interesting new product that doesn’t have that many reviews online, hopefully that’ll get a lot of views for you to kickstart the channel. 👍 You also kept it relatively concise which I appreciate. Metric values would be nice to add on screen though, for us international folk! (Greetings from Finland!)
Been looking for a new pad to replace my Nemo Tensor Insulated (too narrow and fragile) and have tried STS Etherlight XT, Exped 5R Ultra and Dura, Amok Fjøl Winterlight.
@@BackpackingGearNut How does the 2022 Tensor compare to the Rapide SL?
Thanks for the video Idea! I will work on it.
That sounds like a good plan. My Etherlight is very comfortable, but it doesn't feel warm to me as some of my other pads because of the R-value.
The Q core is a little heavier, but also a very nice mat. I think either one would be great. Thanks for the support!
Love this video thank you
Big agnes does make a different pump sack.
Sorry for the late response, they redesigned the one that comes with it and made it lighter and better.
I got the pumphouse ultra inflation bag by big agnes. its 2.9 oz.
Thanks. How do you like it?
This paired with a Zenviby is amazing!
I’m testing some Zenbivy gear right now and that system is amazing
What is the difference between the q-core, the boundary deluxe and the rapide sl?
Great review. How does this compare to the Nemo quasar insulated?
I will purchase one today, and I plan to use it tonight. I'll let you know the results.
@@BackpackingGearNut I just wanted to let you know that I compared the Rapide and Quasar and the Quasar is more comfy for me by a wide margin. It is also quieter. The Rapide is lighter and packs smaller but I returned it and kept the quasar.
I think you can double purpose the bag and use it to store clothes and other items while walking. still a heavy piece of equipment, but easier to justify if you can find more than one use for it
That is true. Great observation!
Thank you for your comments!
Great review thanks, I hope I will sleep like a baby on mine
It's really comfortable, but I have found that with any pad I have, it takes me a couple nights to figure out the air pressure and so on. I am sure you will love it.
Nicely done! Welcome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks so much for the video, I'm getting the floor pad version of this as a two person mat for my husband and I and I wanted to make sure that it was as comfy as it looked.
It’s very comfy. I think you guys are both gonna love it!
Great content man! Just ordered the Rapide. I'm going to try and eliminate some of that weight creep by using a velcro strap in leiu of the stuff sack, and am going to *try* to MYOG a dual purpose dcf pump/stuff sack using the nozzle from the included pump sack.
That sounds like a great idea! Let me know how it turns out.
I also made my own pump sack by cutting the nozzle off and inserting it into a lighter dry bag. It worked well - used thin nylon repair tape to stick it together.
@@AmandaHeapyThat’s a great idea! It’s often worthwhile reading the comments, thank you 😃
No need to roll a pump sack down to inflate a pad.
I did not know about the Dyneema sack. I will look into that! Thanks for the info!
Great vid
Thank You!
I got that pad and have not used it yet. I just got a pump. If I'm going on a high mileage trip I'll take my Uberlite.
Thank You! Glad I could be of help.
Very nice video . Thank you
My Pleasure!
Sea to summit makes the best pump sacks
Do you know if they have the same valve size as the big Agnes?
@@BackpackingGearNut no 😢 I have a big Agnes 2 person pad and it doesn't fit on that. Not sure of the new ones are a different size valve or not. I use the flextail gear tiny pump 2 for that. I tried to buy the fancy UL pumpsack from big Agnes, but it ripped and I don't even know how, so I don't trust it. For the 2p pad, I'm just lazy and the pump is worth the weight. Plus, I can use it as a bellows for a campfire if I'm having a hard time getting wet wood lit.
I have that pump, and I like it very much. Great Feedback!
Hey just confirming..... your shot with it on the scale is saying 1lb 15oz? I picked up a Q-core Deluxe on a BF deal and might send it back because it's a half a pound heavier than the already beefy Rapide.
That would be correct. The insulation they use in the Q core is a much heavier insulation.
I don’t like that it doesn’t have a pillow lock (I roll a lot) and I’m not crazy about the color but it’s a great pad!
If you like the sea-to-summit pillow lock, you can add it to this pad. It is just velcro. If you buy a Sea-to-summit pillow, it comes with it. I hope that helps! Thanks
So, I'd probably ditch the sack altogether and take a flextail mini or zero with me which weigh like 50g.
That's a smart move to lighten your load and go with the flextail mini or zero!
Yeah that’s what I’m doing now is the flex air tiny pump. It’s lighter than the pump sack.
Cheers!
I will definitely keep an eye on it and report my findings if this happens. Thanks for the heads up!
Thank You! That info is worth me researching. Very Helpful.
Wow I’ve never had a problem with their pads
for the pump sack there is a bit of a technique to it in my experience. i actually fold half of the opening over so that the opening is only about half of the bags width. from there you want to blow from like a foot away from the opening into the center of opening. this creates a pressure differential that sucks air into the bag much more than you can blow and i can inflate the bag almost entirely full and inflate my rapide long wide in just about 2 minutes. here's an example of that principle in action th-cam.com/video/BhWhTbins_A/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for the information I’m definitely gonna give that a try.
What foam pad would you combine it with? I can't seem to find one wide and long enough to cover the entire pad.
They do sell a better, lighter pump sack that doubles as a dry sack. It weights 2.9 oz and is called Pumphouse Ultra.
I will look into that thank you so much!
I use the same pad.... Just ditch the pump sack... Grab one of them mini rechargeable air pumps.... weight very little and saves the space and trouble of the pump sack
Great minds think alike! :-)
great video
Thank you! I hope you find more of my videos and enjoy them!
Big Agnes Pumphouse Ultra
Thank you!
Get a Nitecore AP10. no need to waste energy to pump your mat. Rechargeable pump and doubles as a lantern. I'm assuming you have a power bank on you for a backpacking trip.
I have a couple different battery powered pumps I use, but I didn’t know that Nitecore makes one. I’ll have to check it out.
That's awesome! Can you share the link, please?
Could you just blow it up without the pump sack?
Yes, you can blow it up with a pump sack. This pump sack is a little slower and heavier than other companies. That is why people talk about the tiny pump so much. With the weight of this pump sack and how much work you put into pumping the air Matt up, you could save a little weight by just using the tiny pump and effort.
The volume is a bit low.
Thank you! I just got a better microphone today. I don't get much dynamic range out of the microphone on my iPhone, and if I add more games to the volume, you'll get a bunch of noise. My future videos should sound better fingers are crossed.
Yeah, big Agnes’s sack kinda sucks. I went with Dan Becker’s idea and picked up a flex tail pump 2 for my q core deluxes.
It is about the same weight also. Good Choice!
@@BackpackingGearNut, yeah, but faster, lol, or at least easier, lol
Big Agnes pump sacks are downright terrible in my experience, so much so, that after purchasing an air core ultra, i discarded mine immediately. the bags from other manufacturers like exped are insanely better.
Big Agnes pump sacks: deflated expectations. Looks like Exped takes the air out of the competition! Ha Ha...
Thanks for the comment; I reciprocated. Have a great day!
Get Electric pump :)
Totally my FLEXTAILGEAR pump is about the same weight.
go for the real thing... Exped Dura 8R Downmat....
I have personally never tried one of the Exped mats. I’ll have to take a look next time. I go into REI. sorry for my late response. I’m out on trail.
Sorry, princess.
Thanks for being a part of the community!
I have both the Thermarest xlite and this rapide mat. Regards the noise of the Thermarest I always wear ear plugs whilst out camping so never hear any noise from the pads. 🏕️
That is a good idea 👍🏻
