Original video: • Leo P - FULL Brasshous... 11:06
Song: Better Get 'It in Your Soul (Charles Mingus)
Performed by: Leo Pellegrino (Leo P)
I notated the last bit only rhythmically because there's no real meaningful information that full notation could provide. It just depends how you interpret the section.
It only took 5 months for this to be recommended to people... 11th December 36,000 views
by the way this is a terrible transcription, go find more recent videos on my channel >:(

leave it to a string section to clap along begrudgingly to a killer sax solo. great transcription btw
As a string player, can confirm the only thing orchestral string players like to do in a gig is to play a string instrument.
At least with folk players they might have danced a bit
To be fair, they probably needed to focus on the syncopation of the clap part
Looks like it was written in?
it’s written in the song for the background to have clapping

@@goodsprings5271 I’m nowhere even close to accomplishing those lol

What would you classify as the hardest part in this piece? I can't read notes and don't play instruments. Im merely curious and want to see what my toughts would compare to someone who plays the instrument :)
@@yousz123123 I'm not a professional saxophonist by any means, but I would say 0:47 has some huge leaps that is probably the hardest standard technique-wise, but 1:25 on is just insane. Also 1:50 is incredibly smooth how he did the glissando (smearing sound between the low note and the really high note)
He's that guy in band that acts like hot shit and never comes to rehearsal on time, but then turns out he can actually play. So you are super annoyed by him, but you can't help but admire him at the same time.
I tend to find worse the ones who are also really wonderful people, because you can't even hate them, you just have to be jealous.

Ive met Leo in person and spoken to him about some of his influences! Such a great guy
What are his influences?
@@GeorgeCollier so i asked him about a specific thing. Mainly his use of Eastern sounding phrases and scales, because i really love eastern music as well. He told me that in his youth he played many bar mitzvahs, and he took some influence from the Hebrew music into his own stuff. As a Trumpet Player, I can hit high notes but dancing between octaves requires you to simply be built different.
As a tuba player, i agree
As a trumpet player, a sax is much easier to play than a tpt. Especially if your name is Leonardo Pellegrino.

@@kierankrentz9891 that’s so true, playing higher regions have been so much easier learning the tighter mouth placements and such
This is honestly the hardest laugh I have had in a while, nothing against the musicianship. It's just everything from the deadpan clapping to the windmill arm, and the low parts sounding exactly like musical farts. And then the random screeching sounds at the ends. I was in tears, and had to take a call for work right after. I was not prepared, but gold star to me for keeping it together during the call.

@@fanchblanchard8055 first of all it was a joke, second of all.... have you never watched a leo p performance before.
Man...I don't know anything about sax, but I'm guessing you have to have some incredible breath control/strength(?) to push air through that pipe...and then also flex like he just did. My neck muscles hurt just watching. Rock on.
As a bari player, I can also confirm that he’s a beast for doing that with a neck strap. I usually use a shoulder harness to distribute the weight more evenly, bc they are HEAVY.
@@SuzieNerds i agree, i have to use a neck strap tho because im a small person and the harness doesn't fit
I never had trouble carrying mine with just a neckstrap, even in marching band. In terms of breath, you don't have to put air through the whole horn, just the mouthpiece, so bari doesn't take that much more breath if any. I find myself more out of breath trying to play alto with poor embouchre.
Takes a lot of control with your jaw and lips to do some octave changes like that too
sadly I'm too big for a harness
1:41 "windlmill arm" must be the best transcription note I have seen in a while hahaha

I'd bet that bari's tired after that solo. At first, I thought the audience was clapping perfectly in sync 😂. Never a dull performance from this guy 💯🔥🎷

The interplay between ensemble and soloist is breathtaking. Kickass solo
1:28 I did not know a bari sax could produce that note, holy cow!
Alto sax sounds on a bari
It’s like he absorbed all the energy and happiness out of everyone else on the stage.
I seriously want Netflix to makes subtitles like this for music shows
Every time any artist plays with the Metropole Orchestra is like the perfect combination. This shows the incredible diversity of music experience those people have.
Something about following along with notated improv solos is so addictive
That's an almost 4 octave jump in the middle. That instrument has a massive range.
Mans actually did a frat snap mid solo. That that’s how u know ur shits going hard. Absolute legend
1:38 This guy closes his eyes so much during the performance. It's like he forgot he wasn't playing a guitar when he decided to do the windmill.
The way the band looks while clapping is proof that musicians get so caught up in playing they forget to enjoy the music.
They're concentrating on the sheet music to get the syncopation right. It's tricky.
They listen to it later it’s their job to play for the audience and not screw up
Just because they look concentrated doesn't mean they aren't enjoying it. Performing musicians can't become "audience members" either. They can't just focus on listening to the music when they need to perform the rhythm tightly at the same time. So yes, some level of enjoying the music, in the way that someone in the audience enjoys it, is lost when you need to perform it. But performing is a different kind of enjoyment - something that someone who has never played in an orchestra can't really understand. And again, looking concentrated doesn't mean you don't enjoy it. If they didn't enjoy it to some level, they wouldn't concentrate on it so hard either.
For an orchestra player that would not be a familiar rhythm. They would really need to concentrate.
dope fuckin vid but why does 1:54 sound like toad from mario dying
this man flexing his low a key then instantly switching to flutter tounging a double high d is such a mood

Joke aside, wonderful solo. Great flow and control.
Leo P is a such a legend with those moves and the hair.
Leo P came to my high school rock band rehearsal once and the first question anyone asked him was our drummer asking to touch his hair. It was insane to see him interact with everyone while we were playing. The sax players constantly referenced his “teachings”.
Wow, this man is not only an incredible musician, but also an absolutely amazing performer.
Bro just exudes energy, holy cow what a performance.
1:28 this man is better at sounding like he's singing than actual singing
Windmill arm notation 😆
Who told this man to play in Treble!?
Give that man a raise!
Saxophones always play in treble.
@@nikitakhrushchev8316 Bari is practically in bass clef with the concert pitches being in the same spot on the bass clef as their treble clef. You are still right as they always read treble clef.
The string section’s emotion towards clapping is reminiscent of every time my uni social orchestra was forced to clap the rhythm of any part we collectively sucked at getting the timing right on. Forced against our will and ashamed for our shortfalls for not only needing to clap it out but then upon clapping it out, hearing how truly out of time we were. Only shame came from clapping.
Clap shamed 🤣
Oh my goodness, I relate to this so much. Played in band in high school and my BD drilled us mercilessly for months on one rhythm by having us clap it. We all looked as dead inside as the orchestral musicians did xD
Can we take a moment to acknowledge piano dude was on point tho. He picked up after that solo without missing a beat and nailed that transition
Meh, It's not really a hard task if you're musically and good a counting measure and beat
Leo P is such a beast. Dancing around with a bari sax and not banging his teeth on his mouthpiece is crazy. I’d be on the ground passed out if I had to do this!
He's got lots of firsthand experience with that! Probably why he's so good at avoiding it now, lol.
1:10 when You’re playing Galaga and your ship is being captured
I like to think every time he has a solo, he just starts playing without any prior notice, and everybody is just like, “welp here he goes again, go ahead and let him finish”
I didn't think it was possible to play a concert C6 on a bari sax, but this guy somehow pulled it off.
As someone who’s played Saxophone he NAILED those high notes and I envy that so much.
Thanks for reminding me about that bbc prom. I used to have it on loop but I haven't watched it this year. Now I will !

This performance will never cease to be some of the most mindblowing shit I’ve ever seen. I’m not lying. When I first saw this guy on stage with a bright pink suit and matching hair it literally changed the way I viewed music as a whole. It was so weird and interesting and I had no idea it was a thing you could do with an instrument. It became something I wanted to pursue and experiment with. Also met leo p after one of his concerts.
