I personally love the Cotton series, and have used the roms available to successfully introduce my 10 year old son the shoot em' up genre. With that said, I wish to admit that the real motivation behind this particular comment is because I simply want to reiterate just how great it is to have you back from your lengthy sabbatical. We were sorely missing your reviews, and your unwavering positivity. I find it significantly easier to have "a great rest of my day", after viewing one of your new releases; and sincerely look forward to upcoming videos in the near future.😊 Welcome back Drunk! I think it's safe to say we all missed you badly, my friend. 😄
Thanks man, the fact that you upload these videos either at night or very early in the morning and you saying “have a great rest of your day” says a lot.
I'm not gonna lie, that cut scene with her lying on her broom moping looked really cute. I've always been kind of on the fence with shoot-'em-ups; some are just maddening, some are fun but frustrating, but this one looks just my speed.
When you were describing the gane series in the intro I just could think of the Xzibit meme: "Yo dawg, I heard you like niches, so I put a niche into your niche"
Huh, watched this and then got an email from Strictly Limited Games saying this: Together with our close friends at SUCCESS Corp., we are ecstatic to announce that the Strictly Limited line-up of games will receive not one... not two... but four shoot 'em ups in the beloved COTTON series!
All of the cotton games are good, but the best two have to be Cotton 2 and Cotton Boomerang, both exclusive for the Sega Saturn. Deep, fun gameplay, amazing music, and gorgeous visuals with crazy 2D effects all over the place that the 16-bit consoles and PS1 could never hope to run. Check them out if you can!!
A fun thing I like to do with friends unfamiliar with Cotton: have them play the SNES game and then put in the Genesis one and watch as they lose their minds.
Love that game! I've always wanted to own it ever since I saw an import review of it back in 1994 and this year, I finally got it. Praise be to the lovely people at Analogue for making the Super NT region free 😃
I love that in this era we got games like this one and Panorama Cotton that plays like Space Harrier on acid. That's how you keep a game series fresh in such a short span of time.
Love you bro, I know you don't have many subs, but I feel you should have a few million. You've def introduced me into some awesome SNES games. Keep it up
I always wanted to get into shmups, especially the cute'em ups, but never got around to. The whole hectic action and craziness of them always fascinated me, but I am too inept to even get through a level. I'll give this one a go. Thanks for the video, man!
It's a fun genre once you get an eye for when to --- and not to --- dodge, amd how the scoring actually works. After giving this game a try, I def recommend the Twin Bee series
@@MixMasterLar thank you for the recommendation, Lar! I will give it a whirl for sure. If you have any more for an absolute noob in love with the genre, feel free to do so!
@@VtheWanderer NP yo! I'll drop 3 more real quick and that should get you going lol. Hope you have a blast playing these 1942 from Capcom, or any of their 194X games are fairly easy and don't overcomplicate the formula (shoot n dodge) sorta as oldschool as tje genre gets while still mainting a sense of speed. Super Fortress Macross II is kinda a time trial/score attack thing where getting hit just respawns you--doesn't count towards a game over as long as you're making qouta. The Easy course is loads of fun because of it. Touhou 7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom) got me into proper bullet hells but despite the reputation of the series being hard as nails, it has an easy setting that isn't near as bad. The game *looks* intimidating but once you realize you don't actually have to dodge EVERY bullet you see, it starts coming together.
Kickass, a new SNESdrunk video. This is my favorite TH-cam channel; keep 'em coming! There are so many retro games/consoles to cover, I could listen to your takes all day, man. Cheers
The cartridge of this charming little SFC game comes with a mini drama CD which expands the storyline a bit, probably. I am not that fluent in Japanese to understand what it's all about, but it's there. The Megadrive installment of this franchise is crazy rare and expensive. If you can play it, do it, as it is a most interesting game, for its use of pseudo 3D.
Just wanted to say that I'm glad to see you are back, and, I hope, okay. You've talked a few times about dealing with mental health issues and, as a person, who struggles with them too, I know how quickly they can rear their ugly head. I was worried that we wouldn't see you again and not because we wouldn't get any more content. We have loads of content. I was worried because I didn't know if you were safe. It looks like you are. I hope you are doing well. I've watched your stuff for a few years and you are how I've introduced retro gaming to my 6 year old son. We will watch your videos and he will see a game that looks interesting to him, we'll find it and play it and that's been a fantastic way for the two of us to bond and I cannot express how important that is to me as a father. We have a hobby we both like, that we can share, that teaches us team work and communication and it's under the guise of games. What it really does though, is gives me an opportunity to spend quality time with him and get to know him better. And, I think, he gets to know me. So, yeah, it's just video game reviews, but the way you do it, got my son's attention and that has helped me build a better relationship with him and I think I'm a bit of a better parent because of that. So, thanks SNES Drunk and I hope you have a great rest of your day
Cotton 100% is probably one of the most chill feeling SHMUPS out there and I think that's a good thing. After playing so many bullet hells, sometimes I need a SHMUP that's like a cute and simple joyride.
yea, i agree, a shmup most people can actually beat is not a bad thing. most shmups are way too hard, even on easy. it's insulting to have something be insanely hard on easy setting. easy is supposed to actually be fairly easy
Oh hey, you're back. This reminds me of Harmful Park for the Playstation, which has the same candy-colored graphics. Also, there was a Sega Genesis Cotton game co-developed by Sunsoft and Success. It was a Space Harrier-like shooter seen from behind the lead character! Stranger still is that the 3D effects actually aren't bad considering the system!
The candy she is after is not Willow, its actually Uirou (although in they way the stylized the katakana would be the same as willow). Uirou is a traditional Japanese candy (Wagashi) that is kind of like mochi, but is made with rice flower, sugar and some other added flavor such as sweet bean, chestnut, green tea, etc.
I think I've seen this before, but have never played it. It looks like fun and I always enjoy a nice shoot-em-up (even if it is really easy). I did always thought Magical Chase was related to Cotton, but they did seem very similar. Most shoot-em-ups used spaceships so it was interesting to see Japan come up with something quite different like this, Parodius and TwinBee. That is one reason I like the SNES. There is quite the abundance of shoot-em-ups! Thanks for reminding me of this series. I might have to finally play it!
Cute em ups are either balls hard bullet hell shooters like tohou, or stuff like this or infinite continues like harmful park, or goofy like parodius. I enjoy the non bullet hell ones. These backgrounds are so nice for snes! Thanks for the hard work
I never knew the Super NES/SFC had a Cotton game. There was a Cotton game on the Genesis/MD that is a rail shooter and the visuals are phenomenal. I might check this one out sometime. Hopefully it's not expensive for the asking price.
I think these games are easy/short on purpose so you can focus on the scoring system. I had the most fun in Cotton Reboot trying to have the best score possible. For sure having a leaderboard helps. These games are better suited as arcade experiences in my opinion where you compete against others.
The short playtime is also nice for those of us with busy lifestyles and/or families. Sometimes after work I only have 30 minutes to spend on my hobbies, so this kind of game is perfect.
I think the arcade version did have a western release with english cutscenes. Don't quote me on that though, my memory is fuzzy and I might be talking about some other Cotton title.
Got the rerelease of that game, i am playing it more than i thought i will. Overall style, pacing and music/sound is just very well done. It is a very good game you can just start and play.
