    In my experience the Seawolf is allergic to water less than 200 meters deep. The South China campaign was much, much more difficult than the NATO campaign.

    Just want to clarify, the Ming didn't detect you before it fired. It detected your torpedo when it turned to clear it's baffles. Because the Ming didn't have a fix on you, it fired a spread on seeking patterns in the direction of your torpedo then ran for it. You just happened to still be in the line of fire...
    The way to tell if the enemy has detected you is on the signature screen. If you freeze frame @4:15, the contact reads LF LF Passive -14, that negative number means they can't hear you on their passive. The plus 22 on LF Active means they will start picking you up if they ping, but they're not doing that at this point. They have no idea that you're there. Unfortunately your torpedo is very loud, they can hear that... So they fire and start pinging simultaneously, but they definitely do not have a solution on you at the point of shooting...
    You can take advantage of this behavior by swinging your torpedo out wide and then turning it towards the target from a different direction to where you are. If you do it right and keep the torpedo far enough away, they wont fire until you turn your torpedo toward them, by which point you should be well out of the way of their return fire...

    • @MajinLiveTV
      @MajinLiveTV ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. Even better if you manage to do all that and keep the torp in their baffles, they won't hear it until its way too late.

    • @noneofyerbeeswax8194
      @noneofyerbeeswax8194 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not what happened.
      At 4:05 you can see that the torpedo is set on active, and it turns red on the map for a second, before Wolfpack realises his mistake and turns it off. This is what the Ming heard. The acoustic noise of the torpedo itself is not loud enough to be picked up from that distance.

    • @killakanzgaming
      @killakanzgaming ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@noneofyerbeeswax8194
      Actually no... It is not activated yet. Remember "Active" and "Activated" are two different things. The torpedo at that point is set to active but not activated. It is still cruising to it's waypoint and is not in search mode, it is not pinging.
      It is just close enough to pick up the acoustic of the torpedo as we cut to that scene, especially since the Ming is at 6Kts and slowing, it's listening to see what the torpedo does. The Ming responds the moment Wolfpack changes the torpedo's course towards the Ming...

    • @panzerabwerkanone
      @panzerabwerkanone ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@killakanzgaming Correct. The torp had not reached it's enable point therefore was not active when the Ming detected it.

    Pro tip: If ever a torpedo locks on, use your ballast tanks to rise up and down to evade. These chinese torps can outturn you, but their rise/sink rate is atrocious.

    I feel like it might be a bit gauche to mix fact and fiction like this, but the fate of Ming No.362 as compared to the real-life fate of her sister ship No.361, reminded me of the old Robert Frost poem:
    Some say the world will end in fire,
    Some say in ice.
    From what I’ve tasted of desire
    I hold with those who favor fire.
    But if it had to perish twice,
    I think I know enough of hate
    To say that for destruction ice
    Is also great
    And would suffice.

  • @CaptChang
    @CaptChang ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The waters about naval base Yulin is extremely noisy... the escorts can't hear anything, IIRC. The only thing to be careful about... is the minefield, as you've seen.
    Though the ships... actually have patrol routes.
    I personally just go west, get behind the ship that goes north south, then go straight north, bypassing the minefield altogether.

  • @ChrisS-fh7zt
    @ChrisS-fh7zt ปีที่แล้ว +98

    The Seawolf has swim out tubes where they are larger than the torp. So all you need to do is flood them open the door and the torp swims out under it's own power and so there is no tell tale compressed air blow of firing it from a same size type tube.

      IIRC, I've read that they've _planned_ swim-out IRL but haven't really implemented it (at least as far as the public is aware), so it's not that unrealistic that Seawolf doesn't have swim-out in Cold Waters.
      But if you want, you can always mod it in - that's what's great about Cold Waters. Tho in CW swim-out is a property _of a torpedo,_ not of a sub or a tube, so you'd need to create a separate swim-out ADCAP that only Seawolf can use. If you just set the vanilla ADCAP to be swim-out, then LA flt-2 and LA flt-3 will also have swim-out with it, which is unrealistic.

    • @killakanzgaming
      @killakanzgaming ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DZ-1987 I read a comment on another video that said the game modeled the fact that your own hull can screen the noise of the launch transient. If your contact's passive is around -25, your hull should screen the noise enough that they wont hear it (as in turn your nose away from the target so the tube you're shooting from is the other side of you to your target).
      I've tried it a few times, it seems to work... If you do it right, they don't react until the torpedo is heading right for them...

    • @user-bw6jg4ej2m
      @user-bw6jg4ej2m ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@killakanzgaming From my tests this is not modeled at all, sadly (but at -25 passive/towed they won't hear your launch anyway, doesn't matter if the tube is towards them or away from them).
      When testing a hypothesis, don't forget to not only test to confirm it, but also to test to falsify it ;)

      If you Final Countdowned the USS Seawolf to the Pacific in 1942-43, she'd be wasted targeting convoys. Hunting some Japanese Carriers or battleships though...

      @@williamlydon2554 Good point, the Japanese didn't use giant convoys like the ETO did. But Final Count Down was a great movie.

    I'm curious what kind of technology would allow you to map a minefield without using high-frequency sonar that would be like turning a headlight on and telling everyone around that you are there?

      @@user-bw6jg4ej2m How does that not give away their position? It has to emit some sort of frequency to bounce off the mines right?

      The short answer is: They don’t.
      Long answer: Submarines may have a mine detection array fitted, however submarines are pretty much at the bottom of the list alongside aircraft carriers for a unit to be used to find mines. The quality of the arrays fitted (if fitted), the upkeep standard and crew’s ability to use it (noting it is not a primary or even secondary function of a submarine) would make reliably locating a mine such that you can dodge it and remain undetected and achieve your aim extremely challenging.
      It would be highly inadvisable and in reality extremely unlikely in this day and age for a submarine to knowingly sail through a minefield. That’s not to mention the advance in mine technology to the point that affordable mines can be bought off the shelf which are camouflaged and have all manner of activation methods. Gone are the days where mines were solely contact/magnetically detonated and looked like huge balls chained to the sea-floor. This is why unmanned vehicles are now the overwhelming preference for clearing minefields!
