  • Heading into my 3rd year of ownership, this is a review of my Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT after riding and touring with it after 2 years.
    The footage was captured on Saturday 1st June 2024 riding along back roads through the Peak District, taking in sights near Wincle, Meerbrook, Tittesworth reservoir and Blackshaw Moor.
    Sadly some of the video footage was ruined by audio issues, so I’ve made do with the footage I have.
    Filmed with GoPro Hero 10 using a Røde Lavalier Go microphone.

      @@louismasters5531 glad to hear you’re enjoying your GT so much you’ve ordered another!
      I fitted better tyres soon after purchasing the bike (Michelin Pilot Road 6) and it transformed the ride immensely. I should have changed the front brake and pads but I’m almost at the end of my 3 year PCP deal so can’t be bothered with the added expense.
      I’m surprised you find the seat uncomfortable; I’ve just returned from a 2,845 mile tour of Europe and the only negative, besides the front brake, is the vibrations through the handlebar.

    I concur about the tires, I went through 2 sets in less than 10K miles. The stock tires are less expensive, but I ended up upgrading to the Dunlop Roadsmart 4, should get the same mileage as 2 sets of the Roadsport 2. As a taller rider, I opted for the OEM touring screen. As for the blipper, I found that as long as you have the revs in range of what the ECM thinks is optimal it does well, don't try blipping at lower rpm.

    • @skippysadventures8371
      @skippysadventures8371  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sure you’ll get good mileage from those Roadsmart 4’s as they’re a fairly decent tyre.
      Hopefully Suzuki add a screen adjuster to the next iteration of this bike.
      Thanks for the tip regarding keeping the rpm high when using the quick shifter, I’ll be sure try it next time.

    Good commentary. I’m curious if you could compare it with your 2015 GSX-R1000. How does it feel going to a more comfortable superbike, but with lesser components? I’m in a similar quandary

    • @skippysadventures8371
      @skippysadventures8371  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sivanm2130 the comfort levels of the GT are great coming from a sports bike. However, the standout worst part of the GT is the front brake. Get the front brake sorted (master cylinder, pads etc), fit a set of decent tyres (I ride Michelin Pilot Road 6 tyres) and it’ll transform the bike. The GT will never be a track weapon like the GSX-R 1000 is, but if comfort is your priority then you’ll gladly forsake a few ponies and razor sharp handling for a ride that’s good enough with 150 bhp.

      The report is shorter than I had hoped because GoPro decided not to record the audio of two later segments, so I had to stretch the review using the footage I had.
      As for Volvo repairs, it turned out to be the strut top mounts but the mechanic had to use gas bottles to cut off the bolts to get them off.
      I used to do work on my cars years ago, but have become lazy in my old age. I should really get back to doing my own maintenance and repairs and save myself a small fortune.

    I need a touring machine and this bike is in my top 3 list.
    However, I have 3 concerns about the bike.
    1. I never owned a 4 cylinder, only 1 and 2 and I'm afraid the motor would get boring sound wise.
    2. ergonomics. I don't know how to serve this problem. You get to test ride for maybe an hour, but what if pain starts in 2 hours?
    I read that people had shoulder pain
    3. Wind protection. Im ft 5.10 and require the windscreen to blast the wind over my helmet. No wind noise!
    Can you give me your quick thoughts on these 3 points? Thanks!

    • @skippysadventures8371
      @skippysadventures8371  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@sv7017 the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT is a sports tourer, not a tourer.
      1. Yes, the sound isn’t that engaging compared to a twin, however when the engine spools up and wrenches you forward it’s quite intoxicating. Depending on the capacity of your previous singles and twins, are you ready for 150 bhp from the legendary Suzuki 1000cc engine?
      2. Ergonomically this bike suits me for an hour and a half in the saddle until I need to stretch my legs, and I can do up to about 130 miles in the saddle if I really need to, by which time I have to stop and stretch my legs - remembering that this bike is more sporty than touring.
      3. I’m 5’9” with a 29” inseam. The standard screen is okay but a bit noisy, and thankfully doesn’t suffer any wind buffeting. I generally fit MRA Vario-Touring screens to my bikes from new, as these screens have more of a curve to them to allow better wind flow and also have a built in spoiler that I can extend for extended motorway riding.
      From your requirements it seems like you want an outright touring bike (thumper sound, good ergonomics and no wind), so maybe a BMW R1250RT is more your thing because the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT is quite sporty.
      Coming from owning a long line of sports bikes I find the Suzuki GT quite comfortable compared to a sportsbike.
      I’m not too concerned by the sound of the exhaust as I prefer a quieter exhaust when continental touring.
      Wind protection is subjective; I’ve owned an Africa Twin that had horrendous wind buffeting, to the point where I didn’t enjoy riding it whereas another of my mates didn’t feel any wind buffeting on his Africa Twin.
      The Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT strikes a good balance of having enough luggage space for a two-week European tour, sporty enough to throw it around alpine pass hairpin bends and enjoy your destination of choice, yet comfortable enough to travel through several countries in a couple days without needing a chiropractor appointment afterwards.
