    To everyone complaining about the cost - do you think the money he spent disappeared in to thin air? Like he said earlier; at one point over 250 people were working on this yacht. 250 people who were getting paid handsomely, plus the crew it takes to operate a boat like this, and the companies in which supplied the various creature comforts, electronics, etc. This money didn't just disappear. It went to other peoples pockets.

      I agree with you, if God blesses you with the ability to achieve these dreams it does far more than bless you... it ultimately spills out to bless so many more people because you did what many millions of people wouldn't. Creating wealth can't help but benefit other people.

      Many of us benefitted working for Mr. Washington as he gave everybody a chance to build experience and move upward and onward in their career. He is a hard-working individual who seized the moment in construction, mining, railroading, acquisitions, etc. At the time his modus operandi was paying lower wages but he did allow profit-sharing (reference NBC Today Interview 1989 by Debra Norvelle). If others followed his business plan there would be no need for any type of QE. If the government would follow it they could easily slash 1/2 of their payrolls, eliminate waste, and balance the budget. Dennis operated "lean & mean" -- he inherently taught us not only how to survive, but to operate beyond anybody's expectations. Dennis, Phyllis, Kyle, and Kevin deserve everything they have worked for and my family and I have always been grateful for them.

      I was told it costs 10% of the yachts worth just to run it every year considering fuel, maintenance, staff, helicopter and pilot.

      +Mcpsagent King This guy made his fortune in highway construction. His client was the Federal Government (they're the only ones building highways after all) and his fortune is almost entirely tax payer funded. It's a good thing he's in other businesses now, because funding for highway infrastructure has been gutted to pay for tax cuts for rich guys like him. So to recap - he extracted wealth from the taxpayers, then rich people funded lobbyists rigged the system so that he would not have to contribute to the tax base that made him rich. So you know that big chunk of your paycheck the government takes? This guy gets to spend part of that money on quarter billion dollar hobbies like this luxury yacht. God Bless him indeed.

    Spending money and putting it back into the economy is nothing to be ashamed of. It is a form of 'sharing' your wealth. You are keeping people employed. I admire someone like this, instead of those just sitting on their wealth. And not contributing to the economy through purchasing hard items that involve blue collar labor.

    I was one of the special service workmen on this ship. Video doesn't even come close to how amazing it is. Dennis is a non pretentious kind of guy. Really easy to talk to. His wife's boat is nice too. It is the Atessa III. BTW. Word was that it was WAY more than 250Mil. I won't disclose what I heard the CDN dollar value actually was, as Dennis is modest. There was a Monet painting in the board room that was like 3 Mil alone. Looked like a toddler drew it with a pencil, but hey! It was an original Monet. Also, there was a cool golden wall that ran up the whole stairwell that was 1/2 Mil. Onyx statues, gold sink in his quarters, James Bond style Italian 60's race boat... The list goes on and on... Superb job.
    All that said, it would be nice to just say hi to the man again. I didn't even know he was Christian!

  • @PatrickOakleyEllis
    @PatrickOakleyEllis 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    What an inspiration! Extremely hard working, ambitious and true to his morals. A few years back I attended the Christian camp in Oregon a that he funded, and had an absolute blast. This is exactly the way I wish to live my life; pursue my dreams and ambitions and then give back to great causes. Very cool!

    Only a fool would think that the top 1% earning 20% of the money but paying 40% of all the taxes is not enough. Only a fool would think that you have more of a right to another man's money than he does, yet you call him greedy...?? Only a fool would think that him having a certain amount of money affects the amount of money you have, or that he doesn't deserve it. He created that money and can do damn well what he pleases with it. Even if he DID only pay 13%... That's $650 MILLION in taxes!!!

    A little fun fact is that when you own a yacht, you have to spend 10% or more per year for operating costs, then you have to pay the crew, cleaners, and other expenses, so you are looking at paying 12-14% of the total price of this yacht every year you own it :D

    let's say that who ever pays a doctors salary decides to agree with you and he says, "alright, you are a harder worker than Carlos Slim, you deserve more money than him because you save lives" it's impossible because the money does not just appear. I don't know enough English to explain but the only way you can "combat wealth" is to distribute it with each other by force, which takes away a big part of our freedom, and freedom is one of the reasons why this is one of the best country's.

    Some airlines might sell you an old 747 for that price, however it is a lot more expensive to maintain than even a yacht. Plus, this guy spent (assuming the guestimate is approximately correct) $200 mil on refurbishing it. You would likely have to spend much more on a plane.
    If you want a plane, stick to the commercial jets.

    being a student who has completed an AP macro-economics course at the high school level, i am moderately knowledgeable to say the least. Let us look where unregulated markets have gotten humanity (until of course markets were regulated and controlled by unions of citizens [governments]) Slavery, slave wages for the working class, a rotunda of mutual debt, etc. Our modern society has arisen out of the efforts of unions and governments to regulate markets, not out of the markets themselves.

    1,Just because you took a course in economics, does not mean you understand it very well, there's a difference between being educated and being intelligent, that much is apparent.
    2.Slavery and the free market are two different things, one is economical and the other is political, don't confuse the two.
    3.There are no such things are "slave wages" such a term is paradoxical. slaves don't earn wages, if people want to move on from where they are, they are free to do so in time
