The attention to details.....as he comes out he still has his brain pan in his hands. Why nit leave the prop behind? Because HE IS COMMITTED to his character, lol. And when comes out he sets it down right before he sings. As if to suggest, "its time for me to get REAL. Can I get real with you all?"
I love the smattering of applause when Brain Guy comes out, Pearl's huge press-on nails, lustrous love must rise, basically everything about this sketch.
This sketch is one of the main reasons that I never understood the people who claimed the Sci-Fi era host segments were in some way weaker. Everything about this is perfect, from the music to the lyrics to the performances of Bill and Mary Jo. (It ALWAYS kills me when she looks straight at the camera earnestly with "It's Love!" at 0:52 and "But Then!" at 1:01.)
They had better writing later on but the early MST3K had a unique something that could never be replicated. The invention exchange, Joel and the mads just had a certain something.
I love this song. I have wonderful memories of just watching this whole episode again and again when I was younger. I dealt with depression and MST3K helped me to keep going.
Depression blows. I know that territory quite well myself, unfortunately. I hope it remains manageable and you keep staying strong. All my best to you, fellow Mstie.
Great episode of a movie I certainly didn’t like but couldn’t bring myself to hate. It was sponsored by Alcan who had a big plant and I think headquarters in my hometown. I actually emailed their Investor Relations department back around 2003 or so and asked, “I just saw that you guys sponsored this horrible film. Is this really how you spend our money? Who authorized that, and when were they fired?” They actually went and looked into it, but it was so long ago they actually didn’t have any records about it at all. I’m sure somebody was so embarrassed they just buried the paper trail.
"When loving lovers love." God, I love this skit. It was my second favorite host moment - the first being when Crow and Servo put on a clay figure show to work out their anger at the robot-murders in a Gumby short. Hee!
I grew up on these, and failed to appreciate her as a kid. Watching these as an adult made me realize how well she pulls it off. Pearl Forrester is one of a kind.
this is such a great song.i love when she looks dead into the camera, and then the observer just strolls out lol. And i agree with a poster below,i wonder how many times they had to do this, especialy when they get like three inches away from each others face.I know if my friend and i did that wed be bursting into laughter But i love this.Pearl is a surprisingly good singer. "the lovely, leggy, pearl forrester" HEY I CAN SING TOO"And you find yourself in '82
She's actually a pretty good singer..Does anybody remember that song where Pearl and Bobo and Brain Guy sing "He Will stay" ( a song to convince Brain Guy not to leave)
There is this channel that has the host segments for every season I saw the one you were talking about just type in youtube "mst3k host segment" I think it was season 10
The canned applause is a nice touch, especially when brain guy comes out. I have watched this show for decades and they have really evolved. Funny when they start running out of words because the whole thing is a scam. But the part i would have missed the most is when BoBo did not get to do his song Heat in the Moment...I remember back in 82. The Netflix remake is just not the same, I loved the way they just improvised back then and made stuff up as they went along. Best comedy show ever.... dinner and a show!
I just want you to know you can never take down this video, I comment it to a friend of mine on FB every time she mentions her husband and tags #lovingloverswholoveeachotherlovingly
I love how subtly terrible the song is. It doesn't develop properly, there's no real hook, and it just drags on and on - the "memories" part which was twice as long as it should have been, the entire overlong "I really don't know why" section, and that fake-out ending at 2:10 (but the song just keeps on going for another fifteen seconds). And they just *sell* it. It's hilarious. This will sound far more pretentious than I intend it to, but ... it does for cheesy love songs what A Musical Joke does for classical music. Yes, I'm comparing them to Mozart. Sue me :D
This video has existed on TH-cam for 17 years. In 2024, i was here watching it. See you all in 2041.

Bill said at the MST3k reunion show that they played this at his wedding. lol

Seriously?!? That's freaking amazing. I am glad to know this now.
Awesome! This was the first dance song at my wedding. 😎
@Diane Berg that's really the only way to do it, if only for the confused expressions!
I just saw him talking about it on Riff-Trax Live MSTK Reunion...

I really do like pie
I know a couple of guys

Well, it was the heat of the moment.
Brain guy's appearance, and the way he grabbed the mic and joined in the song, was one of the most true things I've ever seen in my life.

Bobo attempting to sing Heat of the Moment makes this so awesome

POV: You just finished your gig as a Wedding DJ and you hear a slow-tempo love song on the radio during the drive home.
Whenever I hear "Heat of the Moment", it's always in Bobo's voice. This host segment is the reason why.
