As a music history nerd, I loved when Tom Servo thought at first they were going to sing "that Schoenberg - Milton Babbitt crap". Which is exactly what Hollywood used to go to for sci-fi alien music. Made the joke even funnier!
2021 here -- "Suddenly Susan"!😂 Damn, this dates it...and me. I was just thinking the other day (...pandemic brain), does anybody else remember the episode of "Suddenly Susan" where Brooke Shields (newly-paired up with her boss), borrowed Judd Nelson's toothbrush, declared how scientists had discovered that our tongues are a hotbed of bacteria, then wildly scrubs her tongue with his toothbrush, handing it back to him? And the look on his face? I LOL-ed like crazy, back before that was even a thing. Ah, memories 👅🤭
I love this song so much! The final verse always makes me laugh till tears come out of my eyes, especially the line ".... I accidentally plopped you..."

I really whiffed on this when it originally aired on the sci-fi channel. As a long time Monty Python fan, I ignored the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band for years. This is a great homage to Vivian Stanshall. Great musical number Mike, Bill, and Kevin!
Kevin didn't sing this on camera because he was in costume as Professor Bobo and it probably would have been too much work to get all the ape makeup off, get the Observer makeup on, and then the ape makeup back on again.
Me me ME!👋👋 A little late for your question, but MST3K is never far from my thoughts, especially the songs. I can be, say, cleaning the bathroom, or vacuuming, and I'll spontaneously start singing this one....or The Greatest Frank of All....or Creepy Girl....orThe Pants Song....or Tubular Boobular Joy 😄🤪

Idk. He can sing, but this style doesn't seem to fit his voice. I don't think I can even imagine his voice in this song over Kevin's. And again, Mike has sung well in other places. I just don't feel like this song would highlight Mike's voice.
That moment when I actually played this song when I was running a Fallout RPG campaign. The story revolved around a Robobrain whose programming broke and wanted to see her husband one last time. He was a skeleton lying on a park bench.
I can sing this by heart after having heard it just a couple of times back in 2010 on TH-cam. Something about it just made an indelible mark on my brain (pun intended). MST3K was my favourite TV show back in the late 90s when I briefly lived in the US, along with Mr. Show. I don't remember seeing it when it originally aired, though. If there exists a boxed DVD set, then I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas. The US produces both the best and the worst TV and movies, HOWEVER, sometimes (but rarely) the Czech mutation is better than the original because I actually liked MASH on CZTV but was very disappointed when I saw it in the original. So, given the fact that both the best and the worst material gets produced in the US makes for a perfect combination when you have a show like MST3K because whoever wrote that was a genius, right down to details like this one song.
Sorry, but this song is awesome! No kidding, right out of 30's or early 40's at the show just before Frankenstein. Yeah baby. Or Obama singing to Joe, ya know
The rhyme of "contusion" and "Suddenly Susan" is perhaps one of the best lyrical pairings ever.
This era of Mst3k with bill, kevin and mike is pure magic.
Man, MST3k had more legitimately good musically bits than they had any right to
Kevin Murphy has always had such a beautiful singing voice.
Agreed 👍👍👍👍💯🎉❤
For real. This song isn't even really funny because Kevin just nails singing all the damn time. He makes anything sound absolutely stellar.
Kevin Murphy and that golden voice.
That was Observer and the Observers with "When I Held Your Brain In My Arms". Your crank is turned to FRANK, and here's Earl.
More Reba!

Spot on send up of the Ink Spots. BEAUTIFUL!!!
Well, hopefully people realize the Ink Spots did not write this song.
The unofficial theme song of Old World Blues.
The first this I imagine after reading this comment is The Courier's Brain singing this song. Thanks for this.
Am I the only one amazed by how good Mike lip-synced in this?
I would have never known it was lip-synced if you hadn't pointed it out
Okay- I'm glad that's Mike. Thought maybe I was losing my mind.
Kevin would've had to shave off his beard.
No. There are others as bonkers as us.
Mike rules
I love listening to Kevin sing! He should do a duet with Weird Al!
I always thought he did an amazing job on this one. :)
I love every time he sings.
Wow! Kevin's such an asset.

This is my favorite musical number from the show.
This has always been my favorite. Kevin just nailed the hell out of the lead. :)
I love this song so much! The final verse always makes me laugh till tears come out of my eyes, especially the line ".... I accidentally plopped you..."
Excellent use of correct medical terminology.
Right? Everyone mentions how good it sounds and I’m like, “how did they manage to insert locus coeruleus and basal ganglia in a love song?”
Kevin really has a great voice.
Kevin's voice is truly lovely!
After I listen to this beautiful song, I have to listen to some Ink Spots. Wonderful satire of some wonderful singers.
They put some of the funniest host segments in the middle of the hardest to watch movies.

Anyone else thinking how perfect this song would have been in Fallout: New Vegas: Old World Blues?

I remember being able to sing along to this, kinda sorta, but now I can only sing the lower Brain Guy parts. No falsetto! Pwee poo.
The Brain Wars of Kalla Bahah. Those were the days.
Lost a lot of friends due to that war
Servo's puppeteering Mike.
I'd love to see the reaction of people who know nothing about MST3K watching this... What the???
So well written!

EA Gorman Also, he never played an Observer. Just royally weird hearing Kevin's voice coming out of Mike's head

So many good times with this show. This song kinda reminds me of the song i dont want to set the world on fire lol
Kevin does an amazing Billy Kenny.

2020 needing a big laugh. MST3K and rifftrax always make me laugh. I have watched every mst3k movie multiple times some of them five or more.
These guys were incredibly talented.
Who in hell are the two that didn't like this?
There are people with no sense of humour in this world. They probably like pineapple on pizza too...😒
They own a lot to Monty Python.

is it me or does the voice sound almost disturbingly close to 'i don't want to set the world on fire' by the ink spots?
I think that was the point
It is suppose to....as well as several other slow pop songs of the time.
Pretty much every Ink Spots song has the same format. You can name any one and this song is similar.

Kevin has much more of a "crooner" voice than Mike does, so he's a better fit for this style. IMO, of course.

I'm almost positive the inspiration behind this musical number was the Ink Spots.
When are they going to record their best songs for an album?
