As a mindblown 17-year-old I saw Eartha in the legendary Cave Theatre Restaurant of Vancouver, 1968. She sang it lying on her belly on the edge of the raised stage so that she was closer to the face level of the seated diners, pretty well as among them as possible. Such relaxed mastery of styling and intimacy of performance . . . man oh man, that was an initiation into that calibre of nightlife. Ah, Eartha, you brought us so much! Thank you! All these many years later it's still a clear memory, her lying there and warmly purring "I want to be evil, I want to be bad" to a captivated, entranced audience.

And I love her not just for her talent with song, but her passion for the little guy. The under dog. I love how she told us to love ourSELVES first, before you let any man in. Absolutely Magnificent performance. What a great song and what an amazingly unique voice. Bloody wicked Good video..sound quality is superb.
way ahead of her time and this song..my God I love this woman, wish I had a chance to see her live performance
ahead of her time how exactly she was completely of this time
Why didn't Yzma sing this in Emperor's New Groove?
Yeah why
That would have been nice if she did. However Yzma did sing in either Kronks New Groove or Emporers New School. Idk which one but it was one of the two. Its called Snuff Out The light.
Cause she’s already evil
Because she was already evil and came from an already evil family.
@@artisticalex1206 it's originally from Kingdom of the Sun, which was the predecessor to new groove that got canned. If it showed up in anything since idk but that would be pretty neat.
Well, Lucifer brought me here and this is way better than their version. Eartha is feeling it!
I'm not even mad, I'm happy I'm here.
@dorothydreams oftornadoes It makes sense seeing as tho she's Lillith
Wow you people are insufferable 😩
Hey
@@imxel2193 WTF??
This is so fuckn hard. Why hasnt anyone sampled this?
Funki Porcini has sampled it a bit in His song "Wicked, Cruel, Nasty and Bad"
She is fabulous
the did in Descendants, Evil Like Me, Thank God Kristin Chenoweth was the singer.
I don’t know what you mean by “sampled”, but in season 4 or 5 of “Lucifer”, the actress who plays Maze did a song similar, so I assume it was a tribute to Eartha Kitt
I just found this today and now know why "Shea Soul" sounded so much like her in this one - th-cam.com/video/4iqTtNuHLyg/w-d-xo.html
They don’t know how
I didn’t know Eartha Kitt was this cool.
The definition of evil sure has changed.
How so?
murrfeeling Hurt flies. In the theater change your seat, just to step on everyone's feet.
I think the idea of this song is that she's so innocent and pure, her mind simply isn't capable of thinking truly evil thoughts, no matter how badly she wants to. Thus, her idea of heinous depravity consists of silly things like throwing mud pies, shooting pool, and stepping on people's feet deliberately.
@@waltonsimons12 oh come on, any villain knows you've gotta take pleasure in the little horrible things you do. You need a little flair to spice up your plans for world domination, really keep in touch with the energy of it all.
Well, she got her wish, she got to play both Catwoman and Yzma!
My partner and I met, dancing to her disco songs in the 1980s. An astonishing performer! RIP Eartha xx
a teenage Yzma finds her true purpose - to be evil.
She's beyond cute in this video! :D
Eartha: And in the theatre, I wanna change my seat...
Me: Awww cutie.
Eartha: Just so I can step on everybody's feet.
Me: oh...
The way she plays with the prononciation and texture with her voice! So good! ❤
I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone cover this, such a good song
youre so right! I think Jostin Biber would nail this... Dont cha think? x
KatKost Yeah, in general, NEVER try to cover Eartha Kitt. Only she can do her songs justice. Madonna tried, and failed miserably, in the eighties.
KatKost She can only do her songs.
No one can cover her. Her songs are that precious to be ruined.
Can’t remake everything
*1953: I wanna be evil*
*2020: I'm a savage*
From "I want" to "I am"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rip Eartha. You may be gone, but you'll never be forgotten. I love you, my dear. You're amazing and I shall treasure your songs and career. Rip Eartha Kitt.
This is such a killer song and performance. It says so much more than the character in it realizes. But I'm sure Eartha Kitt knew exactly what it was about.
The first time I ever heard this song was on the radio when I was in a particularly bad mood driving around running errands.
It Channeled all that frustration straight into a goofy grin
The song, "I Want to be Evil" reminds me of the saying, "Good girls go to heaven and bad girls go everywhere!"
Dan Uscian that’s a meat loaf song :)
That from wanderlust by the weeknd right?
@@missanyone7409 It is indeed a Meat Loaf song and it's also a quote used by Mae West (perhaps originated by her) probably going back to the 1930s.
A self-made woman in a class all by herself. She didn't let negativism define her.
Eartha Kitt has been an absolute favorite for so many years and this song is something I hum to myself at times. It always makes me happy when someone recognizes the hummed tune XD
She is one of kind lady who just leaves a mark on you that you just will never forget
just don't steal her pig
This song is so underrated. Black women are so powerful and beautiful and strong too bad that they aren't treated that way now and back then.
What the fuck are you talking about? Stop being racist.
FernandaWritesStories your beautiful and yes black women are too thanks mama !!
Not many black women today are as classy as Eartha was in her day.
You people will argue about anything, anywhere. Jesus Christ.
Racism not only reduces people to their race - they sometimes erase parts of it. Eartha Kitt was also part Cherokee and part White. As a matter of fact, her mother's second husband - a Black man - refused to accept Eartha because she was too pale.
She really had a unique voice ! So amazing ✨✨
This is the only version I can find that sees her sing at a much faster tempo, and it is better than all the others for it.
I've posed for pictures with Iv'ry Soap
I've petted stray dogs, and shied clear of dope
My smile is brilliant, my glance is tender
But I'm noted most for my unspoiled gender
I've been made Miss Reingold, though I never touch beer
And I'm the person to whom they say, "You're sweet, my dear, "
The only etchings I've seen have been behind glass
And the closest I've been to a bar is at ballet class
Prim and proper, the girl who's never been cased
I'm tired of being pure and not chased
Like something that seeks it's level
I want to go to the devil
I want to be evil, I want to spit tacks
I want to be evil and cheat at jacks
I want to be wicked, I want to tell lies
I want to be mean and throw mud pies
I want to wake up in the morning
With that dark brown taste
I want to see some dissipation in my face
I want to be evil, I want to be mad
But more than that, I want to be bad
I want to be evil and trump an ace
Just to see my partner's face
I want to be nasty, I want to be cruel
I want to be daring, I want to shoot pool
And in the theater, I want to change my seat
Just so I can step on everybody's feet
I want to be evil, I want to hurt flies
I want to sing songs like the guy who cries
I want to be horrid, I want to drink booze
And whatever I've got, I'm eager to lose
I want to be evil, little evil me
Just as mean and evil as I can be!
Diego Garrido *unspoiled agenda
the girl who's never been kissed*
*chaste not chased. She doesn’t want to be pure.
She references seeing etchings. Lol.
this is the greatest song ever
I can see why James Dean found her attractive. :)
really i didnt know that! thats so cool
ALIZAYY she had a threesome with him and Paul Newman. Allegedly. 😏
Cough And Marlon Brando Cough cough
Jamila Brown Marlon Brando found his own daughter attractive, enough that he molested her. Having the pervert fancy you isn’t high praise. Let’s leave that poor excuse for a father and a person (let it be known that he violated an actress on camera, with the director knowing and using it as an act of ‘surprise.’) out of this.
She genuinely looks like she is a cartoon animation at times, what a legend!
The look at 2:53 is so real. so human. so beautiful.
I'm in love with this song.....Rest In Peace - Eartha Kitt Aka Catwoman / Yzma
TheKedger Meowsa 🐾🐾 I 2nd that!
Still the best Catwoman ever.
Also madam zorone from the movie holes
Wow I'm such a lesbian
wow
same tbfh
Big me
@Big_Lenny v1 She was actually a major advocate for LGBT rights
@Big_Lenny v1 she could step on me and I'd thank her
Going from “I’ve never been kissed” to “I wanna meet with the devil” is my kind of zero to 100.
She was such a talent, I think she would have been great as the witch in Into the Woods
h193013 omg YES! 😕
Sure really does remind me of a little cat, no one is better suited to catwoman.
yes great song, first time I've heard it. Eartha was a gem
No coincidence she went on to play the best Catwoman ever
Omg I’m totally taken by her expressive features
The one voice that can't be replaced!!!! Amazing!!
she did become evil :)
she was Catwoman in the 1960's Batman TV show :D
And Yzma
And Madame Zeroni
Neoxkais From Holes? She was not evil
She's probably the most iconic portrayal of Catwoman. It's a shame DC hasn't acknowledged her much. I wouldn't mind if they racebent Selina
Yes, Eartha Kitt was, without doubt, the best Catwoman. I like Julie Newmar also, but Eartha will always be my favorite.
The Real Catwoman lives again. Takes me back to watching the OG Batman and she rocked.
