It’s a joy playing in a band with a guy like A.J. making everyone’s job easier. The tempo is cooking, the fills are blistering, driving the band like a ruthless machine. Rest in peace brother.
I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Jay Jay French - around 2016-2019. While I was going to school in NYC, I was a waiter at a restaurant on the upper west side near where Jay Jay lives. He would frequent the restaurant once a week or so, and he was the LITERAL PERSONIFICATION OF COOL!!!! Just a TOP SELF person in ever way!!! His life story and what he has accomplished is truly incredible. One day he came in and signed a poster for me, that I have hung up on my wall to this day!!!! Highly intelligent, and very well spoken - yet he didn’t graduate high school! Just phenomenal!! Even though I was a waiter at some restaurant, he treated me as if I was his equal!! These guys were extremely influential!! The world could really use more “rock stars” of this caliber!! “They sure don’t make them like they use too”!! Thank you Jay Jay for making my day so much better every time you came into that Resturant!!! You guys deserve every bit of success and happiness!!!
I saw Twisted Sister in '83. Not only was it one of the best shows of my younger days, but it was one of the loudest. Pretty sure my ears were ringing for a week and it probably was the first step in my current hearing issues. But, it was definitely worth it! 🤘😈🤘
Original card carrying member of SMFFTFS!! I was at this incredible show after 9/11, and literally hundreds others from ‘79-through the 80’s in the NY area clubs from Ace in hole and Gemini ll, to Lamour, Palladium, Pier and wherever else they played on their rise to bigger stages & tours. This band was so much more than it’s generally accepted image.
Man, I am so proud to say that I was there in person for this show. Man, it was just so magical, one of my favorite shows of all time. I’ve also met those guys over the years and have some great photos with them. Dee Snider is just a lion on vocals, there is just nobody like him. Here’s to ya Dee, from an SMF for life!!!!
I’ve always been a Twisted fan. I think a lot people never got past Were Not Gonna Take It, and the goofy costumes. But honestly these guys have a lot off great tunes, and they will melt your face of live! PLAY IT LOUD MUTHA!
Amazing good concert, they gave it all, as if it was for the last time, much respect for those guys who had to work a lot to reach such a level as this, those guys of Twisted Sister knew how to rock, how to rock well, many thanks Twisted Sister, long live Rock 'n Roll !!!
a young boy who proudly wore the TS patch on his denim jacket that's what I was in the 80s and in 2020 I'm still here listening to dee anger scream Smf for life
Any footage of the other acts? I’m especially wanting to see Anthrax’s set. I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday, but never knew about this benefit concert until today (10/12/21) from reading the Anthrax wiki page.
I posted this as a reply to someone asking “why crowd was so subdued” and was asked to repost to general comments: I was at this show, it was just a few short weeks after 9/11 and pretty much up the road from where the Towers laid in smoldering ruins and that part of the city still strongly reeked of burning plastic and death, no other way to put it. The show was a collection of hometown bands in honor of the NYPD with Twisted, Anthrax, Overkill, Sebastian Bach & Ace Frehley. They were definitely subdued but respectful all night with Overkill & Ace Frehley getting the biggest noise all night, because Bobby Blitz knows how to cut through the BS and relate to New Yorkers. Bottom line, people were still very freaked out to be at a large gathering in NYC.
Couple mistakes here and there, what do you expect after 14 years, ...but man, doesn't matter at all. You can feel the energy in the place just watching this vid.
My buddy and I were there and we both went to work the next day. (I practically had to toothpick my eyes open but I got through it.) I think Overkill might well have been the loudest set I ever experienced.

First three tapes I had in 5th grade: RATT - Out of the Cellar, Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil, and Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry.
Awesome! Great band with one of the greatest metal voices and frontman ever to grace the stage.

So was A.J. Pero ex-Twisted Sister drummer!!!!!!
Even this is older but I've never seen a bassist play his guitar harder than that, he uses no picks the way it's supposed to be done.
